i sure as hell am not doing that because i'd rather somebody who actually WANTS an MX key gets one without having to pay double shipping just to trade with someone else.
Hows the air up there on your high horse Tywin Lannister?

The rest of us at droppings level will just have to do what we feel is right to get the caps we want for our tiny collections. It really isn't hard to say that trading CCs is much more encouraged than aftermarket selling.

you act like i have a better chance of getting what i want, and then turn around and claim to be registering for all of them to have a better chance at getting ANY click clack regardless of how much you actually want that specific key?

Not at all, but your attitude is very idealistic. It is as if you are ignoring the fact that other CCs besides this sale exist that someone might want.

Also right or wrong I like debates on the internet even if it makes us all retarded hitlers of varying degree. Don't take anything I say personally because I'm just picking a side and running with it. It could even be considered trolling.

ideally we'd all have what we want and we wouldnt be having this discussion :P i see what you mean but if we all stop doing that then it won't be a problem even if there are a couple of bad apples in the bunch. that makes it much clearer to EK and CF what people ACTUALLY want so they can be prepared next time they have a sale.

In a perfect CC market only people with MX keyboards buy MX CCs, and only  people with Topre boards buy Topre CCs. Without verification of what people own though it is near impossible to curb purchasing with the intent of trading. Besides trading, people buy extras only because of the ridiculous and expensive secondary market. If people ideally had a willingness to only pay what they originally cost then no one would buy extras, and no one would mark them up. I personally see trading $18-30 keys for $18-30 keys much more preferable to resale of $18-30 keys in the range of $50-200+ (not sure what the most expensive CC to sell was).

Could you imagine if one person that won the lottery purchased every Topre board from EK and everywhere they could find and then started a new web site "topreboards.com" and sold them at a 50-100% markup? However if something like this happened considerably more Topre boards would be manufactured to meet demand and prices would come down again. When it comes to CCs clack factory is not increasing production or availability or pricing and the aftermarket is insane.

I remember one time, this guy paid like $500 for a Clack. Sure, some of it went as a donation to GH, but still, he paid $500 for a keycap! :D

The reCaptcha thing didn't work for me at first. There was a little shield icon in my address bar (what is that bar called in Chrome?). I clicked it and then it worked.

Put myself down for mx tri skull and beer, and a topre candycorn.

It's only $200 if you bid on all of them.  Or if you proxy and use a different address and paypal account $400.

But then clacks have sold for $500, so wouldn't that be, best case $8000?  Not bad for not a days work.

I bet they will filter it out so noone gets all of them. Wouldn't be surprised if you get a max of two wins (and even that might be questionable).

When it comes to CCs clack factory is not increasing production or availability or pricing and the aftermarket is insane.

But why should he increase the units produced for each sale? These are meant to be seen as art not mass produced pieces of plastic.

True, I suppose.  But mass-produced or not, either way they're still pieces of plastic...

Pieces of plastic art!

I would hope not. They implemented a lottery where you can place an entry into eight separate drawings, and never once did they mention that they would limit total amount allowed per person.

Because if he really wanted exclusivity, he should 1) raise prices, a lot. 2) produce way less. He's trying to straddle this line where is products are available, but "art". Changing to a lottery to even distribution contradicts this. Really, I think the caps should be $100 base cost if he wants to maintain exclusivity. The whole reason we have gouging is because the "msrp" of these caps is max $50, but generally $20-$30. If CF tripled that, the cost would meet the percieved value, and then the gougers wouldn't have much motivation because the amount of profit would be minimal to none.

The other option is to increase production. This would allow prices to drop. If he wants to maintain exclusivity, he should go the trading card route. Make commons, uncommons, rares, and just have people trade them or whatnot.

Regardless, I think that CF is missing out on a huge amount of capital that should be going his way instead of these gougers.

I think that if they started at a higher price then the second hand price would also increase so that wouldn't entirely solve the issue.

I'm happy with the existing system, they are clickclacks creation and he is obviously happy with the current price and production number, if he wasn't then he would change it.

It's simple Geekhack economics.  We all want CCs.  But we can't all have CCs, so that's why they have such a high resale value.

Both points are valid. I guess I would just hope for a little more transparency in matters such as this. I understand them leaving it to the luck of the draw, but if a persons' entries win across the board, limiting them in a system that you set up is wrong to me unless it was stated prior to the start.
