These wildfires

ARE INSANE,

The sky is a different color, 3000 miles away on the east coast. A choking kinda thickness in the air.

Well yes, because cutting down the rainforest is one of many actions which caused the climate change that now results in significantly increased wildfires.

Instead of fighting a losing battle, why don't we just lean into the whole climate change, wild fire, hurricane thing? Make some kind of dare devil event during wild fires in which stunt men ride motorcycles through the forest dodging falling, fiery limbs. Create some high-impact spheres so that people can ride inside the hurricanes and sell tickets! Make dunk tanks for polar bears in which they fall off their floating ice chunks when contestants hit the target with a baseball.

We could call it the "Climate Games" or the "Climate State Fair". All the proceeds would go to burning more fossil fuels just for the hell of it and not even bothering to use the energy just to speed up the process.

Maybe they're waiting for gasmasks and latex to get sexy again.

The world has become a weird place.

Hahahaha. gekha could sponsor a contestent, the choosening.

Primary problem is fossil fuel use is not the main driver of climate change, it's bad, but the PRIMARY driver is animal agriculture.

Other ideas:
Street surfing.
It won't be much longer you'll be able to surf down main street Miami. Instead of going under the pier you can now dodge light poles, parking meters and fire hydrants and boardslide the handrails and parked cars.

Mudbog 500
Instead of Baja 500 or 1000 in the desert hold the Mudbog 500, a race from Orlando or Miami Florida to the safety of Georgia. You can even have various classes such as fan boats, mudboggers and swamp buggies.

Tunnel water skiing.
Water ski the subway tunnels in New York, just hook a rope to the back of the subway train and hang on.

West Coast Bandit Run
Re-enact Smokey and the Bandit but instead of a truckload of beer you have to bring a load of bottled water from Colorado to Southern California.

California should just coat all their trees in asbestos and get it over with. Every damn year, California! Get your **** together.

57% of forested land in California is federally owned, they owe California firefighters billions millions in firefighting fees.

Federal policy is to extinguish all fires as soon as possible and no controlled burns, California does do controlled burns on state owned land, they often get out of control, the firefighters and public pretty much expect it, but they do do them. It's a lie that they do not. It's not California policy that is causing the problem it's federal laws that date clear back to 1910, even if the feds do controlled burns it will take several decades to restore things to balance and avoid this problem because you can't do it all at once.

Land in the West/northwest is very much federal, it's not anything like the East coast, south or midwest.
Percentage of federal land in :
Nevada 85%
Utah 65%
Idaho 62%
Oregon 53%
California 46%
Arizona 40%
Washington 30%

Compare this to:
Iowa 0.3
Connecticut 0.3%
New York 0.3%
Kansas 0.5%
Rhode Island 0.8%

Just learnt bout __ Burn Scars ___

Basically what happens is, after the forest burns, the land does not hold rain water like before, so whatever city/ road was built around the region is now subject to flooding/ mudslide damage.  As has occurred in colorado, where a mudslide has permanently disabled a major interstate highway.

So burnt/ evacuated towns built around fire areas, even if rebuilt, may be destroyed by later flooding.

But hey, US, Canada, and Russia are starting to negotiate fishing treaties for the Arctic Ocean, it never used to be much of an issue.

There needs to be a moratorium on fishing.  It's highly neurotoxic to eat fish, ontop of the destruction of marine ecosystem.

The ocean produces 70% of the oxygen on earth, a collapse of that system will cause suffocation.

When they say, % contained,   do they really mean  % burnt out,   because while firefighters are actively doing _Stuff_,  they're not actually responsible for the majority of the fire's start/stoppage.

Siberia,    Also FIRE....

Siberian city of Yakutsk with an “airpocalypse” of thick toxic smoke, atmospheric monitoring services have reported.

High levels of particulate matter and possibly also chemicals including ozone, benzene and hydrogen cyanide

Satellite analysts say regional levels of PM2.5 – small particles that can enter the bloodstream and damage human organs – have surged beyond 1,000 micrograms a cubic metre in recent days, which is more than 40 times the recommended safe guideline of the World Health Organization.

Military planes have been used to douse forests with water and seed clouds with silver iodide and liquid nitrogen to induce rainfall. Some desperate communities have reportedly even drafted children into the fight to hold back the flames.

You know, when they said, the price of climate change will be paid by our children,  wellllllllll, it's kind of already here... i mean, what more indicators need be met, you've got kiddos drafted into firefighters.

TL;DR

"It is stark and shocking that there are still 139 elected officials in the U.S. Congress who deny or dodge clear scientific consensus, despite the obvious effects of climate change now"

It's how much of the perimeter or edge they have control of.
That can mean no longer expanding or allowing it to expand but under controlled conditions. In some cases, like I mention above where it's federal land, it may be the states only opportunity to get a controlled burn in the area.

That makes even less sense, there's so much RNG, even if you drew up border lines, it's not very indicative of how much handle they actually have on the fire.

It may not be a good way to determine how close they are to having it under control but it's pretty much our only way of attaching a number to it.
