Hello Geekhack,
I got some horrible news and it's with a very heavy heart that I let you all know that Allessandro passed away on Tuesday night.
I moderate on the forum bit-tech and his grandfather got in touch with us last night to let us know. We have a post here over on Bit-tech http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?p=3680081#post3680081 but really we don't know anything about it all.
I thought I should let everyone here know as I know he used to have an artisan section here and posted here quite a lot.
RIP Allesandro. A real shame to lose someone so young, my heart goes out to his family and friends.
Hello all
I also moderate on Bit-Tech with margo and have been in contact with Alessandro's grandfather over the last day or so. Some people on Bit-Tech expressed an interest in making a donation towards a wreath for his funeral but instead Alessandro's grandfather would prefer donations to be made to a mental health charity. Should anyone here wish to donate then they can do so at:

(on Bit-Tech Alessandro went by the name KidMod-Southpaw)
-
rest in peace good sir
-
Alessandro was always a nice guy, gonna miss him, he was the guy who inspired me to have a go with keycaps and even sold me my first novelty :)
RIP friend.
-
Very sad to hear. RIP Alessandro.
-
RIP Alessandro :(
A little piece of him lives on in GH, and in every custom keycap that he made.
Condolences to his family and friends - it is always too soon.
-
shocking and extremely sad news. i didn't have much contact with alessandro, but to know that he was going through such pain and to hear of his passing is heartbreaking
-
Wow.
I feel for his family. Sucks he was going through so much crap that it made him do what he did.
Rip.
-
RIP Alessandro
My deepest condolences to his family and friends
-
may he find more peace through death than he found in life
-
Damn. My condolences to those who were close to him.

Some context: his grandfather asked to help spread the word to people and let them know in the hopes of prevention (reading the bittech post), yet nobody posted this on the front page of that forum or this.

Thanks.
Im sure if any of us are dealing with stuff most of us are willing to lend an ear also.

To take his own life, he must have thought there's no where else to turn to. I am shocked that a forum member would do this. I mean, a forum in itself is a place to talk about things - anonymously even. And I bet you all of us here would be willing to give an open ear or eyes and even you know we can Skype and talk it through. I urge anyone even thinking about this to shout it out in forums. Use a throwaway account. But talk about it, please.
RIP Alessandro.

Very sad news... rest in peace. :(
-
Rest in peace man, I'll never forget you or your deliciously sweet looking cake caps.

RIP cake man. Sad to hear.
-
Prayers for his family.
-
Very sad, my thoughts are with his family.
-
I didn't get to know him, but I'm saddened to hear it.
Depression is a serious illness and not something that can shrug off by "cheering up", like many people think.
I have suffered from depression (got out through therapy and medication) and I would best liken it to a drug addiction - an addiction to feeling down.
-
Rest in peace.
My condolences to the family as well.
-
This is very sad.
I hope he found the peace he was looking for.
My thoughts and prayers go to his friends and family.
-
I am deeply saddened and I wish him peace. I also wish I had gotten to know him more.
-
RIP Alessandro
super cool dude. i remember he was the first person i ever really talked with way back when.
:)

Yes I agree, this is what the open topic forum for.
When we need any form of help we should be able to find it here. For the future generations, let us know if anyone need to talk.
RIP Alessandro.

While I unfortunately never had the pleasure of interacting with Alessandro, I know his work and personality were greatly admired here. I'm beyond saddened to hear of his passing. As some others have noted in this thread, I've also struggled with depression off and on since I was in my early teens so these types of tragedies really hit home for me. :'(
My thoughts are with his family and with everyone who was close with him here.

While this might be an accurate analogy I think it paints the wrong picture.
Often a drug user is helpless to their choices and a slave to their addiction; meaning they can't stop even if they want to, it's not as simple as choosing a different life.
This applies to both drugs and depression.

Another one lost... sad. He was so young as well. It's unfortunate. I'm glad I got to talk to him and know him a bit. He was funny, and had a nice imagination. His cake caps will always be a memory of mine on geekhack.
-
Oh wow.. I didn't talk to him much, but I did buy a Gumrot ogre from him. It was a beautiful cap. He seemed like a very nice guy. RIP. My condolences.
-
RIP Alessandro, you'll be missed on geekhack. <3

R.I.P with respect.
No matter how bad, devastating, soul-crushing and pointless everything seems...it's really not. It's just your perception (which can be changed) and perhaps your immediate surroundings (which can be changed).
Nothing around you is important enough to end your life over, and there is always something to live for, even if you can't see it right now. That's why it's important to talk to someone, to get that perspective.
You can walk and make a totally different life than what you have today, it's far easier than it seems. It's natural to move forward, you actually need to force things to stop.

RIP

RIP Alessandro. GH has lost another great contributor.
No more, k? :(

See you at the big switch tester in the sky, this cakes for you!

-
Wow, this is very sad news.
RIP Alessandro. At least I'll always have the orange backspace key to remind me of you. You will be missed, buddy. :'(

margo, do you want to edit this into the OP?

these are always my wishes for those who have recently 'left' us.
RIP, Alessandro.

Depression is a terrible thing to go through. This is very saddening news. I remember him as an excellent person, very kind and good to deal with.
-
This is the sort of news that I hate to hear. I hope that those are suffering the same sort of pain have the courage to seek the help they need. He will be missed by more people than he knew.
-
Very sad :( RIP Alessandro.
-
:( my condolences go out to his family.

Just saw this, somehow I missed this thread. RIP Alessandro, I never got to interact with you directly, but now when it is too late, I wish I had.
-
RIP.
-
This totally sucks. I got to know him a little bit during a private dust-up (via PM's) that I had with him over some Clacks. Well, the whole donnybrook was really about the price of the aforesaid Clacks. But he was such a tough negotiator and fighter, I would've never thought he would be the kind of person who would resort to suicide. But then again, you never know what somebody is going through. We don't have any info to go on, so I can't speculate as to what happened. Anyway, this sucks bigtime, because he was our GH brother.
-
Wow, I totally didn't see this until now. RIP Allesandro, cake in peace.
Depression is a tricky beast. I lost a friend a few years ago to it, while I was still trying to deal with my own.
-
Bought a few things from Alessandro, always a pleasure to deal with. Think i got my turd cap from him. Haven't been around much lately and I noticed Moose having the cake in his avatar not realising why :(
RIP man
-
This is very sad news...RIP. :(
-
RIP friend. :(
-
Never knew Alessandro, but RIP. Glad to see that they had such a great impact on the keyboard community though and hopefully their legacy will live on.
-
It may be late but may you rest in peace.
-
It is scary how many people on this board have passed away. I think in relation to other boards of any type it is a high number. Not at all to undermine any of them. I will miss each of them. People that frequent here tend by their very nature to be some of the most peaceful, caring people. Any death is sad but these people the world has lost greatness.
-
Rest in peace
-
RIP to you sir
-
So sorry to hear that. Rest in peace Alessandro.
