Should I buy Ducky DK1087XM Green Alps
« on: Mon, 25 November 2013, 06:28:31 »
I found this Ducky 87key with Green Alps switches here:

http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=43

I am abit curious about this and would love to know if anyone has exp with this switches. And should I get it for the sake of trial?

P/S: I remember long time ago, Filco did sell White Alps Majestouch, am I right?

As a person who owned three of these Ducky Green Alps boards, I'd say understand what you're buying for that price.

The switches are nice and fun to type on, but the caps if not properly taken care of will self-destruct out of poor quality.

So just take decent care of it and never try to wipe off your keyboard because the caps cannot take any sort of lateral force without breaking.

Also I think pchomeglobal or something like that will usually have these for a few $$$ cheaper, but it'll be with chinese legends and ship from china. (but if you're looking for the absolutely cheapest mech board I don't think you can get much cheaper other than maybe the Kailh switches or w/e)

It looks cheap to me, but again I am not familiar with XM switches which makes me more curious. I wish someone out there create Alps Sampler Kit

There kind of is one with the MrInterface switch test try bag. The problem with an Alps sampler is that there are only two type of alps switches one can buy brand new (Ducky Black XM and Green XM) So there is no demand for Alps testers, and those boards can be had for like $43 shipped.

I think if there is no demand, the product should be more expensive.

Anyway, I remember there is a white XM right? I recall that at one time Filco did sell

Yeah...bummer...I've been looking for that on ebay but no luck.

Were you gonna get something else as well 'cos shipping to OZ at AUD $46 would be a real killer. I'm looking at the yellow ducky tenkeyless and it's AUD $166 before shipping. Might just wait for MechKb to get the Francium....

I've had two of them and I say skip it.  Save your money and get in on the Sprits Alps PCB GB.

Either that or wait on the Matias 60% board coming out.

I have that keyboard in Green and Black iterations. I think that for the price they're good, however, don't expect stellar quality. They do look very nice and I dig the simple design. Based on my experience, the Black feels way better than the Greens, which are a little bit too rackety, loose.

See the following absurdly nonsensical URL:

http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=search_list&s[search]=&s[title]=Y&s[short_desc]=Y&s[full_desc]=Y&s[sku]=Y&s[match]=all&s[cid]=45

I just picked up one of each 5-pack; somewhere on my to-do list is opening up these (supposedly the reduced weight 55 g switches) and comparing them with my samples from Xiang Min (spring length and gauge).

Note that the photo for the black switches is WRONG! They're showing simplified Alps, while the product being sold is the Xiang Min KSB-N linear Alps clone.

I think if there is no demand, the product should be more expensive.

If no one wants it, the seller has to lower the price until someone bites.

Supply low=high cost
Demand high=high cost

Right now demand is low and supply isn't too low. But demand always outweighs
