Alpha + base is enough to fill 2 board, just curious, if I have a full size keyboard, what the other could be, from what I see, back space is not sufficient
Most likely an HHKB-like layout with 7u space, R2 1.5u backspace, split backspace and split right shift 👍

Unfortunately not since we don't have the illustrator file for the legends, the kit render was some photoshop magic.

Speaking from my experience, it's not really FOMO. When I see a set I like, I usually wait till the last couple of days to join. With the exception of MoDoL, you gain absolutely nothing for joining early, so waiting till the last possible moment might be beneficial. You can see if the set is successful, if the kits you want will be made, if any other cool or maybe even cooler sets drop in the meanwhile and you don't freeze a substantial amount of money for a month. I appreciate people who join group buys early, but it doesn't surprise me at all that the last couple of days have huge spikes.
As for this group buy, congrats to kema for a massive kit count and quite possibly the best selling desk mat ever.
This is typically true. One recent exception was the trainwreck, GMK Wavez, where you were only eligible for collab artisan raffles if you joined on Day 1 (and the GB runner never mentioned this :rolleyes:)

Which under warmer lighting, or low lighting, tends to look very black/brown...
Here is my picture (using fairly soft even lighting, and a bit of post processing...) of GMK phantom mods with VoC alphas. It's rare that Phantom looks this good in reality.

We got our kits guys, still pending on processing them. We just want to make sure our packaging is not going to fail on the crap new GMK boxes that get squished, it might be we have to order newer sturdier packaging. We will use what we have here for now as the sturdiest.

Not a great shot by any means, was just a quick one on my phone with the deskmat. I'm happy with how it turned out! The light level comparison in the original IC/GH post is spot-on. It's a very deceptive purple, under low lighting (which it was when I opened it around sunset) it looks very rich and dark, almost black at some angles which is very interesting. Just opened it tonight so haven't been able to see it under proper daylight yet. Hey just curious, did GMK mess up or was there a change to the base kit. The supposed R2 + sign is now in R3 for my base kit
Looks like a positioning error in the render, should be R2 1u “–” and R3 1u “+”, so you should be good ✌️

That's pretty much what I did, I had my phone pre-loaded with my card/shipping info and had the page loaded and ready to go like 10 mins early. I only wanted the base kit and a deskmat, so the whole thing took maybe 20 seconds, but they still got deleted out of my cart before the payment screen even loaded.
Oh well, congrats to the lucky few who got one.

The reason we haven't got them yet was because TKC messed up deskmat production, that's what my local proxy stated. So the fact they are selling extras when we haven't had our original ones yet leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

When I tried checking out, it did say that there were none of the disco variant of the deskmats available. Do we know which design the production error affected? If it only affected the disco one, it wouldn't be as weird of them to sell extras of the other one.
On the other hand, if it affected both of them, that would be pretty scummy, especially since they even advertised that there would be extra deskmats a whole day in advance.

I wasn't informed on those details but I've asked someone on TKC staff to see if they can send out an email to all the buyers, from what I understand the icon mod replacement keys will be sent out automatically (will be produced based on # of kits sold), but I'm not sure about the 1.75u shifts since only some kits were missing them.
I don't want to offend Kema, but purple has nothing to do with what was on the renders! At the stage of samples, I talked about it, I said that it was too dark color, but what I can. Overall, I'm not particularly happy with what I received.
That's my fault, the final purple mix did end up being a bit cooler and darker than the one in the renders to get it to how I personally wanted it to look. In hindsight I should've tried to work with vendors to see if they send out photos of the samples and allow for cancellations for those that weren't happy with them. If it's not possible to get a refund from your regional vendor, you can pm me and send me your kits for a full refund + shipping costs, or you could sell them on the aftermarket. I'm sorry you weren't happy with the keyset 😢

I don’t want to be toxic, but it’s somehow indecent to return money from a regional vendor, they didn’t follow this process, next time just listen to the community, even though this is your project, but it’s not always ideal ;)

The design is really awesome, and I must say, the superdarkpurple on the base kits is reallly nice. 10/10
Was too late for the GB, feel very lucky to get all extras I wanted (base, light alphas, icon mods, spacebars)
Today I got the Light Alphas in, and was a little underwhelmed... it looks alot like a BoW set, rather than a PurpleonWhite set (https://imgur.com/a/cURy8XC). Looking at the back of the doubleshot in good lighting conditions you see it definitly contains some purple, but overall it's way darker that the FF purple. (see images).
Here I mixed FF with ePBT Kon momo (https://www.instagram.com/p/CQ_huUSn1SA/), of which the alphas are a blue-purplish colour, although a tad lighter/bluer than the FF purple it still does seem to match better than the FF light alphas 'black' legends IMO. :-[
Haven't gotten to doublechecking my icon mod kit yet.
...Still I'm quite pleased to have this set nevertheless and look forward to Kema's forthcoming designs. ;)

I just got word from the contact at TKC who's in communication with GMK about the replacement keys that you should let your regional vendor know of your kit errors so they can report numbers. (Although, I'm sure the Icon Mods keys will be sent out automatically since all of them had those messed up 😑)

I think the regular capslock is just a different color. I see there is a caps lock symbol that is in a pink color in my kit and I don't see a key like that on the renders (it is the same size as the caps lock should be as well, not the smaller one that is in the kit for R4 row). Also, why are there so differences in colors from the way the kit turned out and the renders? The 1U symbols you pointed out that are clearly pink on the renders but came out yellow, and then the normal caps lock in renders is yellow but came out pink. Seems kinda crazy to have those inconsistencies.
On a side note, do we have to contact TKC about getting the replacement keys for Icon mod set? Or are they going to just be sending them out to the people who bought the icon mod sets? I bought the Hiragana and Icon Mod kit unopened from someone on r/mechmarket, so I need to figure out if I need to be in contact with them to make sure I get the replacement keys, or if I can just contact TKC myself and handle it directly.

The color differences are due to the manufacturer messing up the color applications on those keys in their internal visual guides. It's rare for this to happen but it's possible they were rushing things. Also the render showing the hot pink 1.75u Backspace was dated (should be light pink) and the vendor didn't update to the latest render assets. 😅
For your situation, you could try having the original buyer send in a support ticket requesting to change the delivery address for the eventual replacements. Or arrange for the original buyer to send them your way when they're received 🙏

Oh gosh, it looks like they made the R2 – and R3 + into R1 and R2, also noticed it's wrong on the base kit render, however the reference layout I sent GMK has the correct R2/R3. I'll let TKC know and see if people can get replacements for those, so sorry about that. (Edit: have sent the details of this error over)

For the 1.25u Shift, I was told they couldn't fit both the icon and text so it was defaulted to the icon alone.

R2... dunno, probably when the keyset is going te be run again. Designer confirmed in this thread he wants to wait until the long GMK queues are over... so that may take a while. Although the deskpad was crazy popular and could be run seperatly from the keyset I guess.

Gmk actually responded with a statement. Im not linking the statement here but just search "the evolution of gmk" on google and you'll find it.
Their expansion was set for early 2021, but was delayed because of german lockdown and shouls be finnished by now. Im not sure if they has started accepting more sets, but they are making up the backlog now. (Some sets that ran after others might get ahead of this reason)
Edit: its 12weeks since the latest news. As seen on their instargram. Even though they are a mostly secret company they do share a little, i am worried though with the next wave of corona here in EU.

I also don't have any 1.75u shift. Sadly can't use the set because of the set, was planning to put it on the Sat75.

Yep... I've tried helping others that are also missing the key by referring them to the TKC staff member in charge of the set but it ultimately ends up going to their support team, I can really only recommend trying the support staff again (and again if they don't respond) 😣

I believe it was to keep the spacebar kit compact/lower cost and just provide support for base kit configs which most people will have ordered. Have you tried mechmarket? I'm sure there are people who have WS1 6u spacebars they're not using 🙏

So, after a very long back and forth I finally got my replacement kit only to find out that I got the wrong replacement kit. Apparently I have other issues with keys that haven't been highlighted yet and there are therefore no replacement kits for. My 1.25u shift is only icon when its supposed to be icon+text and while I also found a another issue regarding the ISO enter it seems to be a render only problem at least since im assuming its supposed to be the same as the ansi one although the render and sales page shows otherwise
Ah ****, I never noticed the 1.25u Shift issue since I'm not an ISO user, but I'll speak with TKC and request GMK to send replacements for those 😑
The enter looks right, the renders didn't have color applied to that legend for some reason.
Edit: Sent a message to TKC and updated the base kit render

I don't see what this has to do with GMK. Hoffman had a good post about some more intricacies of color matching. The manufacturer will match to whatever the designer provides them with.
Just to be clear, no designers are ever expected to do the actual formulating to arrive at the desired color for manufacturing. There are "color houses" whose entire business is to formulate color concentrate mixtures that achieve the target color at a given loading concentration (sometimes you'll buy the resin pre-colored; no idea what GMK does, but that's really not important).
The designer's role is to ideally select the correct target color that the supplier will match (they will match whatever is provided, if physically possible). If it turns out that the color in real, physical form is not what the designer intended, then the dreaded "color matching" cycle begins. This is where a lot of inexperienced designers seem to get caught. Translating from a screen to physical form is not trivial, and physical samples are always going to make things easier. Without some guidance or experience it's very easy to mess this up. However, despite being hard, it is still part of the designer's job to get right.

Poor colour matching is not a failure of GMK, it's the designer that did shoddy work. That's why colour samples are sent to the designer to be approved. GMK doesn't just make 'anything' and deliver it as the final product.

and that is why you do not join any GB run by amateurs, track record is important, R2 are however usually safe, GMK already have the colors

I’ll join the crowd in asking for an R2 I guess. When the group buy for this was ran I was dealing with some heavy family stuff so I wasn’t able to buy in. I hope we can get an R2 eventually. A FF 2023 updated desk mat would go unbelievably hard as well. Whenever you get around to it, I know the hobby the last year or so has been pretty unfortunate with various issues, plus I can’t blame you for wanting more of your designs out there!
