Cherry G81-1800HQU x Terminal_
« on: Fri, 15 February 2019, 23:38:03 »
Recent build I did for fun -- because I love plastic boards as much as I like metal ones. Not just that -- the components for build, barring keycaps, was budget-friendly as it only required the case, the PCB, stabilizers, switches, and lubricant.

I had a Cherry G81-1800 case given to me by a kind community member, so I went ahead and did a build with it, lubed 68g Retooled MX Blacks and a TKC1800 PCB. PCB-mount build. The cable is an OG Cherry cable in black that was cut and modified to USB, along with detachable aviator-style connectors.

Typing test here

I hope you like it!

Nice build! was about to do the same with my Dolch PAC but, decided to keep it stock.

did you make the cable yourself?

I did try to do it on a different cable, but I lacked the right tools to do it properly and I wasn't getting it right. So I saved up a cable and sent it over to ZapCables to have the terminating ends re-done.

I think proper plastic case, PCB-mount builds are highly underrated especially given how less costly it would be -- I would suggest you try it with your Dolch PAC! If you're careful, you can always return it to stock, depends on how you feel about preservation of an old keyboard/artifact, though.

They're aviator-style connectors, so that you can use different terminating ends on one cable (e.g. USB Mini, and USB C). It's useful for cases that have integrated cables, as it allows one to detach it at the connector instead of removing the full cable.

That's super cool, never thought of using those cables as like a hot swap depending on what you need for your device.

Looks stunningly! The g80 design just keeps being beautiful.

Btw, would you be able to do me a favour?, I am working on a project and I need the measurements of the back sticker,  H x W in cm 😊 would jump up and down if you could measure them for me?
