Think it's just a problem with it, hopefully that gets solved soon, don't think it'd be closed/sold out seeing as it was literally just approved.
As a little side note - would it be possible to see actual pictures of production units of each colour labelled? This is something most GBs cannot offer and since you have already ran this previously (both R1 as well as R2 in China recently) you could probably pull it off. If you have access to all (or most, as many as you can) the colours that got produced I think it'd play to your advantage to document it as well as you possibly can.
is their a limit on this one? I can't remember and I don't see it listed.
Thank you, excited for this!
Any chance you have pictures of the “dark red” case? I don’t remember seeing that color in the prior posts.

There is a render/photo somewhere of it with some sexy red SA keys. It’s somewhere between burgundy and red from what I saw. But it’s actually super tempting.
But so is the blue grey, and purple is always a good one to have.
Blaaaaaaaah. Choices suck. I want all of them.

When I first saw it, the side port really bumped me and killed my enthusiasm a bit. But now I keep thinking about how tasty it could look with an L-shaped connector...

I prefer it to having a gaping hole in it's rounded backside :p

Really want to get in on this! Is there a limited amount of boards being made, or will we be able to order until Feb 15 for sure? I might have to part with some of my stuff to get in cause I don't wanna miss this haha.
Yes! Glad to see this finally happening.
@sanryu I love that the silver is so light it actually looks white. Is that how light it looks live?
and curious, why does it feel so cheap?

Thank god these guys are from Taiwan and not Korea.
Also: thank god my preferred option is no extra option 🙂
Some questions:
1. "RGB led animation on the right side (see the pic)"
→ Is that the same as backlighting?
2. How heavy is the case?

that looks like MAO, which is pretty **** in most cases
silver is a pretty good bet most of the time, since it's just clear anodizing and virtually impossible to **** up
same with black, since flaws don't really show up in it

I could be wrong, but my take on the Korean comment was regarding pricing. Kustoms is expensive.
PlayKeyboardTW: one entry form suggestion: if you accidentally select an option (like extra pcb or brass plate) by accident, there's no way to deselect it. Might want to change that.
I'm in for a gray one. Choosing color was extremely difficult and I was very tempted to choose the dark blue (I think it's drop dead gorgeous), but I already have a blue m65a. Need to diversify and I think the gray will match easier with other keysets.
How do I edit my order to include a brass plate?
Oh, damn. That dark red case brings back memories. It looks exactly like my cousins' MSX Yashica YC-64! It was the first home computer I used as a kid before getting a C64.
Never thought I'd go for a red case, but this might be it.
Is the blue of the keyboard shown in the last pic here (https://imgur.com/a/OPB9q) the same as the "blue gray" custom color offered in this round? Thanks
Just join in for gray / blue plate + extra PCB , Brass plate , titanium logo ! This with my GMK Laser to come, it will be amazing
I am so hyped
Are there any images of the board in black?
Unsure whether I should just order 1 PCB and rely on my good soldering skills or not... Can we buy PCB's afterwards if I mess up?
The titanium logo, what kind of finish/colour will it have?

No since there wasn't anyone wanted a black one in past 2 GBs.

You know Laser is Purple not Blue right? (Not trolling, it could just be easy to mistake some of the renders for blue :D). Blue probably still would look good with laser tho. I've been debating what color I like best myself, trying to get myself to get something other than purple just cause I can't have ONLY purple keyboards.

Make sure you have a temperature controllable soldering iron. Aoyue makes some cheapo options. Set the temperature to something like 350C and you'll be golden. Soldering really isn't that difficult, you shouldn't have to invest into a second PCB.
There's tons of good videos on Youtube as well that explain it, like this one:

Im not so worried about my soldering. I solder for a few companies here in the UK. It is just if I mess up, the faff that will be involved with getting another PCB.
Yasss i’m in! Got a gray + silver/brass plate and additional titanium badge for gmk laser. So hyped for this!

Yey, really was so looking forward to this GB!
Is it possible to order extra plates in different colors? Should I just choose brass plate and specify somewhere that I‘d like a different color?
If I have extra PCB & plate, can I order 1 more case?
Choices, choices. That dark red color is unique. Any suggestions what keycaps would go well with that color?
If I have extra PCB & plate, can I order 1 more case?
We charge for a full kit as an unit. Additional plate can be seen as a replacement, considering there might be some unexpected damage when assembling.
So I have to say sorry. :(
Can you speak more about the QMK support? Has the PCB been added to the QMK repository?
Just to clarify, will invoices be sent out on/shortly after February 15th, or will they be sent out in waves as people order? Been looking forward to this for a while, and excited to see that expected shipping is on my birthday! :D
I want to ask what does the rgb led animation on the right means? Can’t see it on the pics. Does it have rgb leds built it in already?

Thanks, I love that retro look. But I don't have any grey keycaps though.
Is there an estimate for shipping to the US yet? I think I could justify two if it wasn’t too expensiveShipping fee: 45USD (for all locations)
This going to be limited at all?
What is the cheapest you can get this for? By that I mean, with only the essentials (with the case, but no extras). The formating of the pricing is confusing to me.
Could anyone photoshop GMK Laser onto purple case? I know it should be a good match, but I'd prefer seeing this before ordering.
I'm also thinking how Laser would look on grey case, which is generally a better universal match...
I'm in! Were you able to negotiate any discounts based on quantity targets?
Also are both of these gray?

The colors look so different, unless the first one is a render and the second one is an actual production shot?
I’ve seen that invoices will be sent out during the GB - will the final payment date be the 15th for all invoices?

Base colour of $275 which including case, alu plate, PCB and brass badge if you choose HHKB style plus shippig $45 plus PP fee 4.4%
so $334.08 all up
what are the chances we could also get a acrylic plate, or the file to make one for ourself?
I think the 'C' and 'A' on the badge need to be moved towards the middle of the badge a bit. That spacing is a little awkward.

I noticed a lot of folks getting a brass plate are also getting the “gold” option for the aluminum which seems odd to me. Won’t they be pretty similar in color? Is it just for feel difference or is the brass a wildly different color?
Invoices will be sent out through GB time

Does this mean "throughout" or "after GB ends"? In any case, if I place my order on Feb 15th I have the full day of Feb 20th to pay for this, yes?
I'm considering black and brass, a retro board with minimal colors sounds like a good option. :)

I don't think I've *ever* seen anything offered in brown before.
I feel like it's going to look absolutely BONKERS with GMK camping!

Just paid both of my invoices. Really looking forward to getting these.
Maybe this has been answered before, but can I ask about how they will be packed? Will they be in custom-cut foam, or just packed with standard materials? I think that the first option is a more robust choice. Just want to make sure that they’ll be safe when sent internationally.

Just curious? What switches are you guys planning to put on these? I used Cherry Browns my whole life and would like to try heavier switches. 67g Zealios or 80g Aliaz from kbdfans? I want it to be silent as well.

Try putting the stem and spring in a Panda housing with a light lubing....possibly the best tactile switch available IMO
I got bored and crudely mocked up Laser on the gray and red...gray is safest, but I don't think red looks half bad.
Would it be possible to see pics of the plates and their different colors?
what does the lightbar do? can they be indicator lights or are the just for show?
How can I change the color option chosen? I already received the invoice with the wrong color... (my fault)

Blue doesn't look as good as I hoped it would. People who want to put GMK Laser on this puppy - Are you going with Purple or Grey for the case colour? I'm leaning towards Grey since it's a more versatile colour.

dimensions are often kept secret to prevent people from stealing the designs

Guys, we are now facing some paypal issues.
Since we are using a new account and Paypal official thinks there are some risks of the big money flow of this GB going.
So this is what we are going to do:We apologize about this thing happened, and also appreciating to the supporting of you guys. ;D
- refund all payments first.
- keep all orders on the order list.
- find a new way as soon as possible for transactions.
Now me and Yock will be focusing on sorting this thing out.
Sorry for not replying any PM until we can make it back to normal.
Thanks. :thumb:

I’m sure you will find a solution :) ! A website is a good idea.
I have just one comment: I have checked my paypal and indeed there is a « refund » for the transaction. I know from experience that the refund can take up to two weeks to effectively appears on my bank account. As the original payment was already withdrawn from my bank account, I hope it is possible to wait to get the refund on my account before making a new paiement :) ! Thanks

I initially considered purple, but I realized I don't really like this case colour, I just was under the impression it will be a good match because it's similar to the keycaps.
My second choice was grey (as I agree it's very versatile), but I already own a grey Norbatouch, so I don't want a very similar case now.
Now I'm trying to pick between red and blue. Red seems a better match than blue, but I generally like blue colour more. To make things more complicated I have more keysets that I will probably use with this keyboard in the future (like MT3 /dev/tty and Dasher SA).
So far I still haven't decided yet.
So should I wait to fill out the form? :(
Got my refund but not 2nd invoice
Received the new invoice! Glad to see the deadline is 15th of February, I am still waiting for the refund of the first invoice (still in « waiting » on paypal )

Paypal has refunded me but it doesn't show up in my balance yet. I think it will be like this until the next statement, which will be February 6th or 7th, as far as I know.

What do you mean by "next statement"? From experience on other paypal issue, the refund take in general between 7 to 10 days to arrive on your bank account. So I think they will arrived next week (hopefully.. I don't really have enough cash to put upfront before the refund of the first invoice :( !)
I received my new invoice but it is for more than the previous invoice. Did pricing change on something?Same here, from few dollars.. The paypal fees are still 4,4% but represent a higher amount, strange

Is there enough clearance between the PCB and plate for zeal stabs, or should I stick with Cherry?Zeal stabs don’t have clearance issues with metal plates because they’re pretty much universally 1.5 mm. Acrylic plates are where issues sometimes come up since they are usually thicker. It’s totally possible for there to be clearance issues in other areas though, i.e. if the case is too close to the pcb.

First time on this thread, I am interested, is this GB still open?

i'm having PTSD from the E8-V1 fiasco
I want this keyboard but am trying to gauge where this GB is headed.
Has anyone here spent some time with one from the previous runs that can offer an overall review? I've seen mentions on reddit that one customer had a "ping" issue, and another was commenting that the bottom of the keyboard was much thinner than expected. Would love to get a thorough rundown before jumping in!
Hi CA66 crew.
Can i still pay the "old" invoice? i haven't received a new. And if i have changes would it be easier just make a new order through the G form?
THANKS
PS. when the time comes would you guys make a guide in English on ydkb.io for the YD keymap builder for CA6&? :D

The PayPal issues are common with all sorts of gb. E8-V1 was a very unique case as the GB runner was hospitalized. I don’t really think THAT is a realistic fear here.

Any one know what the color(s) are in this pic? https://imgur.com/a/DCZZG
Are these two different color or just one color under different lighting? If the blue grey is the second one, then it is probably too light for me..

First one is a gray blue, the last one is a custom light blue case.
I'm still undecided about the color, it's either going to be grey, silver or grey blue.Yeah, unless you want to try Holtites you'll have to get 1 plate per pcb.
Two other questions: If I don't want to desolder, I will have to buy a plate per pcb, is this correct? And I will need plate mounted stabilizer, right?

Love this thing to bits. Only downside is that it doesn't support the stepped caps lock that would really sell it. Praying to god income taxes come in before this ends.

So i have a weird question, but when putting this board together, would it be possible to put the larger (2.75u) half of the spacebar on the left side? I’ve always used my left thumb for the spacebar and I’m afraid 2.25u is going to be too small. I know I don’t have to split the spacebar, but I want to if this would be possible.
Thanks!
So what's the deal with the Paypal refunds? I paid yesterday (Feb. 1). Should I expect my money back? I see the update was made on the 25th of last month. You shouldn't receive a refund if you pay the new invoice yesterday. The refund is for those who received the original invoice, paid, and PayPal freezing the funds on that account.

I agree with you on all points, I like the weight as I can sit on the couch and comfortably type on my lap or throw it in a bag and take it to work with me. Daily driver here too.
Are there any more pictures of the brown case, besides the (2x) that are linked via this thread?
That board is gorgeous! Yeah, some photo I came across mentioned it would be lighter than how it was pictured (similar looking to yours). I am assuming this time around they are doing a brown instead of dark-brown. It is so hard to be set on a color. So far I have silver selected but I am debating the gray, and brown as well. The black looks awesome, but I have a Mira in black.

A red keyset runs the risk of being off-putting because of the differences in hues. It could work. It could also look terrible. I'm going for dark red as well and will go for a light gray keyset. White/gray/light gray overall will look quite good, I think. You could also try going for a complementary color, like green. SA Camping, for example, would probably be a really good looking keyset with the dark red case.
No weight? 1.4 kg seems light to me
It could have very well been designed as a thick and heavy block of solid aluminum, but the original design intent was to design a nice looking, but still lightweight keyboard.
I'm sure there's room to add weight if you want to, but the product wasn't designed to be heavy.
Understood, it is nice looking.
No weight? 1.4 kg seems light to me
well above average for a 60%
don't get confused with TKL weights
Joined! Spent a lot of time debating color selection, but at the end of the day that early photo of a gray CA66 with Calm Depths could not be denied.

I've been umm-ing and ahh-ing about this for a while, it's tempting for so many reasons but ultimately that ugly-as-hell logo taking up what should be at least one more button ruined it for me. Hopefully there's a round 2 with revisions.

QQ: do I need to buy switches that go on the pcb or on the plate?
QQ: do I need to buy switches that go on the pcb or on the plate?
If you want to use the plate (which I assume you do) you want plate-mount switches. However, this PCB has mounting holes allowing PCB-mount switches to be installed as well. So basically it doesn't matter :)
What is the upside of the pcb mounted over the plate mounted ones?
Strange question but I'd assume the PCBs from earlier GBs would fit just fine in this one if for some reason we wanted to switch to North-facing LEDs (as this one is now south, unlike prior ones). Is that correct?

I'd recommend getting a cheap kit board to practice on if this is your first build.
My first build, no matter how hard I tried, still kinda turned out meh.
I also had to desolder all the switches, because I forgot the spacebar stabilizer...
Especially for such a beautiful (and expensive) keyboard, it'd be worth picking up a bunch of really cheap parts to make a ~$60 practice board.
wait so we can choose led orientation? or is it set to South for this GB.

Yeah I spent a LOT of time looking at that timestamp.
I'm just so excited to build this dang thing!
Hello guys, update here.
We are now in the manufacturing phase and hope everything goes well.
Thanks for everyone's patience. ;D
We got an email early this morning which asked us about why some CA66 photos were shown in replies.
Some of those were orders from Round2 groupbuy which was held in China.
He might be misunderstood the situation or just thought that we don't want to ship his order.
We already refunded to him and not going to take his order.
Please note the timeline below:
Order deadline: Feb 15th
Estimated shipping date: May 15th
No quantity limit
Invoices will be sent out through GB time, and deadline of payment will be Feb 15th.
Thanks everyone. :D
You should give his slot to l0uie ;)Haha I would love it but the M60-A is finally on sale and don't have the money for both :/
Hi everyone,
I got many PMs asking me if there is any extra to purchase.
The answer is yes, but I don't know the actual number right now.
The info will be released after we ship all our GB orders, then we will move on to this.
I think this is the most fair way for everyone, both GB attenders and those didn't join the GB but wanting to get a CA66. :thumb:
Thanks for PM me and shown your interest. ;D

I guess while we're waiting, what switches are y'all gonna put on your board?I've been on a box white trip, but am afraid to put clickies in this board. With it being hollow, I think I'd be better off with some tactiles. I have some zealios left somewhere, but wouldn't mind some tinkering with switches.
I guess while we're waiting, what switches are y'all gonna put on your board?I've been on a clicky kick lately, but tried some lubed Tealios recently and they were ****ing amazing! Thinking about doing that, or lubed vintage MX Blacks.
Silly question, but I'm dying to know: what is the keycap set on the board in the third picture? Not the GMK looking one, the one that looks like an SA profile, and looks like a combo of teal and dark navy? Thanks!

My goto for high price boards is always linear. It's what I like, and what I type on daily.
I'm thinking I might go either silent blacks, or tealios. I built a 30% with the first run of tealios, and I really wish I would have bought more. I love them. (I'm actually typing on it right now haha, trying to get my wpm up.)
Btw. how is the production coming along? It is a month before estimated ship date, I'd rather like to know if there are any delays or if everything is working according to the plan rather now than in mid-May.
Hi guys, sorry for not updating since I was so busy this period of time.Nice, super juiced for this
CNC is close to 60% done, and Yock is ready to head to the factory to check them.
Then he will supervise anodizing process himself.
I will post some photos when he arrives to the factory. :D

I can't tell what kind of room it's in. If you look at the floor, it kinda looks like the roof of a building. What's the scaley-looking metal piece on the floor? I'm guessing it's just housing for the entire machine, but .. :confused:My guess would be it's angled like that to drain off the liquid they are using.

I think you're overestimating the scale of that picture. That's an enclosure for the CNC.
Anyone plan to custom-made their own badge? I'd love to have my own design badge for this keyboard.Similar to what exclusive offers for the E6-V2?

Will definitely be scouring this forum when they ship to get in on any extras! Congrats to all you lucky people thst got in on the GB!
Ship date still on target for May 15th?
Does anyone know anything about the “CAD66” BLE PCB that’s compatible with the CA66? Saw some pictures on Reddit but don’t know where to get one.

A tiny little bit, it's a dual mode replacement pcb that is bluetooth enabled and USB capable, replaces the LED strip with an LED matrix that is individually addressable, and is Alps comptible. the original group buy came with a pcb, carbon fiber replacement plate (to allow signal transmission), and a battery. original group buy was on taobao (http://g.lshou.com/shangjia/c1014470755/t5661dd9ee81a.html), and is over. there may be another buy in the near future...
Glad to see you guys made up some noise and creativity here. ;D
We are now in anodizing stage, and all normal colors were done.
Moving to the specials right now.

Is that a white colour?!? It looks really good. If it is white, can I change colour? ;)
Is the PCB compatible with the Kailh PCB Sockets? Wondering if I should wait for round 2 (fingers crossed) or pick one up on MechMarket and hope someone comes out with a compatible PCB.

We can consider to hold a GB for those Bluetooth boards.
Hopefully it will be the CF plate + pcb combo, like the taobao gb.

don't forget the lipo battery...
I would also be interested in the BT PCB. I think it really connects with the IBM PCjr roots of the design. If we're going for authenticity, let's go all the way. IR all the way!!!

Sure, that's a reason to get a bluetooth keyboard, in general.
Like I said though, why pay extra for a feature you won't use? I, and probably TestostoBoost, will not be using this feature even if it's nice to have.
Similar to how RGB per-key lighting or underglow is nice to have because you can periodically change your color scheme but why pay extra for it if you know you want white and only white LEDs.
Well, unless I'm reading this all wrong, this is for an optional aftermarket PCB that doesn't offer anything else, so if you don't plan on using the bluetooth functionality, no reason to buy it.

Hi guys, all CA66 cases were done except some needed to be re-anodized.
Now we are doing plating for brass plates. Probably 2 to 3 days and we are all good.
About CAD66, it's still an uncertain option that we haven't decide to open a GB for it or not.
But like tanvir175 said, just get a product that you will use it. :thumb:
Here's a pic and a video for updating. Yock's been too busy to take photos for every stuff.
We are close to finish guys. ;D

While everyone is hot and heavy on the BT PCB, would anyone be interested in it being redesigned to include the Kailh PCB sockets? I may use BT occasionally but I would definitely enjoy the ease of changing switches and keeping their contacts clean.I'd surely be interested in a hot swap socket version one

Is it still possible to buy one of these?
How do i purchase an extra? Black with the bronze logo is literally the first KB i saw that got my into this hobby. I've jumped in so many GBs since 2018 and i somehow missed this. I'm so sad. Please halpIs it still possible to buy one of these?
There will be some extras after GB concludes. Other than that, no unless someone is selling their spot.

I am also in the same boat of not getting in the group buy. Been checking this forum everyday with hope of news of how to obtain the glorious extras they speak of.
Who's gonna sell me their spot for $80?
And I'll sell my spot for eight... hundred dollars haha

Is this the second group buy? When can we expect the next round, or interest check? It seems like there are a lot of people interested in this board even with its price.

I think this is actually the "third" round.
I don't know about the 2nd one, but I'm pretty sure the first one was only in the chinese community/region. I think that was the 2nd round, too, but some of them made their way other places, as I think the secret got out.
The result may surprise you guys. ;D

To everyone who received an e-mail regarding a phone number for your invoice, can you check and make sure you sent your response to the right e-mail address? They should be going to the OP, whose e-mail starts with "yj"
For some reason other people's replies are being sent to me.
I sent you a PM about this PlaykeyboardTW.

Could you share the badge CAD data for people to make their own badge? or even plate data? (after the GB and extra sale)
I'd love to make my own badge and carbon plate. :p
As I am in Canoe group buy, the gb owner had the good idea to make an online table (google doc) with every order and status.
I think it is a nice idea and it allow us to keep track is everything is good without bothering with questions and email. Just a simple list with « shipped, will be shipped, in production or idk »
Just say’in :p
Knowing people are getting their shipping conformation has me worried that I screwed up somewhere

I'm gonna put Taro or Laser on mine. I got a grey case, but I will likely get it powdercoated, both because I want a bit bolder of a color and it's completely scratch proof (plus with the right powder you can get some texture on the case, which I like).Yeah I wonder when Taro is gonna show up. It seems like if Lazer isn't gonna happen till July then Taro should be ....August?
Putting some mod-L's on there with a 1965 SA set.. already lubed the mod's some extra.
If I get the Purple I would put SA Grand Budapest like the render that was made up. So fire.

Recieved a text message this morning from DHL with a tracking number from HK. Haven't ordered anything from overseas recently, so I can only assume this is the board.
Exciting!

Not sure how I feel about this. The sample pictures made the grey take on a blue tinge because of the lighting, and I really liked the colour. Guess I'll have to wait and see.

It is dark grey. At least, that's what I ordered, and it doesn't look black to me. Personally I'm glad it's darker, because my Revo RJ was dark grey but still lighter than I would have liked.Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/lLRBVv8.jpg)

They are very light. Those look freaking amazing with the red plate! Dark Grey looks crazy awesome 🤩Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/RDrJKCY.jpg)

Mine showed up today as well. I don't know yet which switches I'm gonna use... I'm thinking linears as I wanna take it to the coworking space I'm at, which requires silence.

I'm on the fence wether or not to add in switch lighting, but as I'm going with BOX Navy switches, I'll have to install them first anyway. I'm not super familiar with TMK/QMK: will it be possible to toggle the in switch lighting off independently from the RGB elements on the right?yes

I got mine, really regretting only getting silver. Still looks really nice. Might be a minor blemish or two which I can probably live with until I powder coat or some other new finish.
It went to my old address which luckily was only a 5 minute drive from the new place and the guy handed it right over :-X
Also just realized I only added a brass plate and no second PCB. So either I need to buy a PCB, or sell a silver plate.

Added 1965. But only had plate mounted stabs:-(

I have not removed the PCB from the packaging inside the case yet, but is there a way to build with a 7x spacebar? Or is it only the split (2.25 and 2.75) or 6.25 layout?
Sweden here. Picked it up at the post office today.
Dark red case looking intensely gorgeous! And it got better. I couldn't decide on a plate/badge color combo so I got both badges as well as gold, silver and brass plates. Glad I did. The mirror polished brass plate is one hell of a heavy and thick slab, shining at me like deer's eyes caught in headlights. I paired it with the titanium badge and it was a match made in heaven; the titanium bringing the surface back a little, letting that mirror polish shine. It will look amazing with light grey keycaps.
A few minor issues. The anodizing hadn't taken in a few places. Ca 2 mm inside the USB-C cutout, quite visible, but won't be when hooked up to a cable. There were also two barely visible ones (I had to look hard for these): a really small dot in the middle of the back between the rubber feet and a one mm hairline on one of the edges. Nothing major. Overall the anodizing looks perfect.
The inside had blemishes here and there, mostly on the inside of the back plate, on screw standoffs and white discoloring around the USB-C cutout. Once assembled none of that will be visible though.
But wasn't it supposed to come with two strips of rubber feet? I only got one...
Overall, a damn fine keyboard! I'm really happy about having joined this GB and look forward to building it.

That worked for me at least to get into the bootloader. I flashed TMK and everything worked perfectly. I used a 70 key layout. Maybe test if you can hit layer 1 and press b.
Expecting mine to arrive at my door within the next hour. Has anyone successfully flashed QMK onto their PCB? I just found out there's a CA66 entry in the QMK branch.i'm trying too in vain...

neither QMK Toolbox or atmel flip can see the device when it's in bootloader
Yeah, i finally got it working. the mistake I made was I thought i could use qmk toolbox or atmel flip but it looks like you have to use the DL Reflash which is kind of a bummer but not too big a deal.Expecting mine to arrive at my door within the next hour. This is my first time flashing a keyboard, so I opted to not build and compile QMK. But anyways it should be the same because all you need is the hex file right?
Maybe try http://ydkb.io/?ca66# and download the DL Reflash Tool.

Got it working thanks for the guide! Also this is an amazing board. I will take pictures tomorrow to post.
Upon closer inspection, I noticed uneven anodization on the bottom where I can see the some aluminum as well. :(

I was using screw in, but had paper protecting everything nearby. Now I have removed all the screws and no change. I will double check the FFC connector.
EDIT: Disconnected and reconnected both ends of the FFC, still not working :'(

Do you need this DL Reflash tool every time you want to flash the keyboard or just for initial flashing? I'm on Linux and while I can (albeit reluctantly) use VM to do this once, I'd rather not do this over and over (and I know I'll reflash it several times, because I like tinkering with the layout).everytime unfortunately. it has a totally different bootloader
I'm considering selling mine, if anyone is interested, PM me.
I have the grey case, brass plate, silver plate, brass badge, titanium badge, + extra pcb. I already soldered box whites on the brass plates, so you will get a free set of switches (the silver plate is untouched). I'm looking to get what I paid. My case is, as far as I can tell, perfect (no scratches/imperfections in anodizing). I'm simply realizing that I need a full keyboard to be productive (I'm writing my dissertation...and I quickly lose patience without all keys).
Nick
Those of you who have built it already, did anyone use screw-in stabilizers? Was there any problem with it shorting the PCB?

Oh guys, those look so good!
I'm not sure what people are doing to the ribbon cable, if you are careful it is very safe to take it out while soldering. You need to pull the black part back before pulling the cable out, that's what holds it. After than it just needs to be carefully pulled straight out, not up or to the side.
Finished my build out:Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/iub5rC5.jpg)
Removed the ribbon cable between the daughter board the main pcb to get it out of the way while soldering, and damaged the retaining clip but it still works well enough (for the moment), would not recommend taking that risk to anyone else.
Waiting for a bunch of keycap sets to come in, so scavenged DSA Granite from my White Fox to put on it, unfortunately the WF uses costar stabilizers and I'd previously had to glue the inserts for the stabilizer into the backspace key, so had to sub in a blank DSA 2u key I had lying around in. It's actually a very dark blue color (hard to make that out in the photo) so doesn't look terrible in person.
Have to say I am really liking this board with DSA profile, may keep these keys on it if I can source a replacement backspace or somehow extract the inserts out of the existing backspace.

I think my problem was that I thought the clip had to be fully removed to extract the ribbon cable, and doing so broke the legs of the clip. I'm guessing if I had attempted to pull the cable out with the clip partially open it may have worked fine.
Got the board today, it looks great. My only stifle is the surface texture.. does anyone else feel that rough like anodized texture. Does this have to do with the matte-likeness of the silver case and possibly inherent to the process. Overall, it is not that smooth, and doesn't feel like other anodizing.
I just got mine today and overall I'm very pleased with the GB.
This is my first time buying a custom board with a brass plate, and I know brass is relatively soft, but mine came with some micro scratches on the front of the plate. I know it's impossible to have it completely free of blemishes and I won't see it once the caps are on, but is this normal?
All you need to do is to pull the clip out a bit horizontally, then you will be able to remove FFC cable easily.
Didn't think that would cause some problems for you guys haha. :))

--
Anodization was perfect on mine; no blemishes or scuffs. Build / programming (based on this guide https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bYX7IenWyevWL4jLfa3NB626znSH6-aI/view) went really smoothly!
For anyone using the guide, here's what the rgb options are (from left to right):
- on/off
- change mode
- change color
- change color - other direction
- change color to more white
- change color to less white
- decrease brightness
- increase brightness
Any extras that will be sold soon after everything is shipped? I know it is a long shot but I thought I might ask. :-[
I believe that those tiny scratches are normal as we couldn't make it pure mirror depends on our producing method.
But it's still fine if you can post some photos for me to check them. ;D
I used a different usb cable and everything is working now. I was getting worried.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I figured it wouldn't be reasonable to expect a perfect mirror finish. Just wanted to make sure it's normal

Really interested in another groupbuy.
build finish! I will try to take some pics too.
I manage to flash using to windows tools (forced to create a bootcamp on my mac for this as a virtual box did not work :( !)
The little usb ribbon inside go on and off very easily, but BE careful, I broke mine after maybe 10 on/off. It look fine on the outside but does not work, took the one from my spare pcb. I will by some spare from aliexpress (pretty cheap, awm 20624 80c 8pins connector).
Recorded my build, feel free to check it out! Skip to the end to see the finished product.
That's very minor imo. Polished brass is near impossible to keep clean/fully polished. You could always polish it up again.

That's a bit more than I expected, but still normal.
Will try to do it better in the future.
I myself prefer SA on CA66 to other profiles. Dazzling!
I tested my PCB today, everything seems to be registering on keyboardtester.com, but one key. I noticed that the top right key changes the lighting mode, but the one below doesn't seem to register or do anything. What's it's default function? It does control some aspect of RGB just not sure which mode. I at first thought the same thing until i started testing some more with the key.
Should be easy to solder it back on, no?I used a different usb cable and everything is working now. I was getting worried.

I myself prefer SA on CA66 to other profiles. Dazzling!
I received one of my PCBs with an RGB light that had fallen off of the board. Would you happen to have any replacement PCBs available? Everything else I received completely exceeded my expectations. Great work!
I used a different usb cable and everything is working now. I was getting worried.

Awesome!Any extras that will be sold soon after everything is shipped? I know it is a long shot but I thought I might ask. :-[
^ ditto, would love to get an extra if there is any :O
Might go for another GB, so don't worry about extras. ;)
I believe that those tiny scratches are normal as we couldn't make it pure mirror depends on our producing method.
But it's still fine if you can post some photos for me to check them. ;D
Thanks for the reply. Yeah I figured it wouldn't be reasonable to expect a perfect mirror finish. Just wanted to make sure it's normal
I also put on Carbon on mine, but SA instead of GMK :p
Also attached some pictures of the little scratches but it's just me being picky

That's very minor imo. Polished brass is near impossible to keep clean/fully polished. You could always polish it up again.

All I can do right now is to look at the empty shell :-\ :-\ :-\
that you have all these people interested in another GB, it should happen again soon, right? :p
build question: which side of LED pads are + /- ?
If I could find it hahaha. I probably should have specified that one was just missing. Awesome build video by the way!

Hi, I just built my keyboard and flashed the hex. But nothing working.. in device manager, it is shown as unknown USB device(device descriptor request failed)..When it get into bootloader, it is shown as USB input device..
hey all. i spoke to mech merlin bc i couldnt toggle off my LED backlighting. i guess this issue is known in this thread, but i had not educated myself with this until after i had soldered in all my LEDs. well, he told me that i can still modify the rules.mk file and set backlighting _enabled to No. remake my make file and reflash my board. now, bc this is a minor pain in the ass, i think im gonna leave these LEDs off for all eternity and just right them off. but man she is beautiful, so no complaints here.Show Image(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180601/8a44b5130e48a0c3add4538473584274.jpg)

ohh! one more helpful build tip if u want forever backlit LEDs...when looking at the pcb switch side up, all the LED positive side was on the right...at least for hhkb layout with split spacebar. i did not try the winkeyless or full size spacebar. hope this helps.

Yeah. I wonder if it's possible to ISP flash the default QMK stuff onto the microcontroller?

For me, I cloned the QMK repo, made my preferred layout, then compiled the .hex file myself using the Ubuntu terminal from the Windows Store. The only thing that seems different from this is that this board uses a different bootloader as opposed to all the other QMK boards, so you can't flash it using QMK toolbox. You have to use the reflash tool from ydkb.io.
You could also generate a QMK .hex from the online QMK configurator and use that too.
Does anyone know a way to change the bootloader so we can use QMK toolbox? I'm just assuming we can't from what others here have said.
Yeah. I wonder if it's possible to ISP flash the default QMK stuff onto the microcontroller?
Theoretically you can flash the DFU bootloader onto anything. In reality, without knowing how they've wired reset and hwboot, you run the risk of having a board that can only reliabily jump to bootloader via soft reset, which is never ideal.
Thanks for posting this info! I'm considering trying this with my spare pcb. I would not have not have known about changing the high fuse setting so that specific info is super helpful. Here's mine. Managed to get QMK working properly. How did you manage to flash it using qmk?

I can confirm the board works flawlessly with DFU bootloader, I've already reflashed mine and it is working correctly.
For people considering change their bootloader to DFU bootloader and be able to flash via QMK toolbox, here is some information.
The board uses the BootloadHID bootloader, and can be flashed via BootloadHID. (And of course the YDKB's reflash tool, which is actually a wrapper of BootloadHID and dfu-programmer ... etc.)
(https://github.com/whiteneon/bootloadHID/blob/master/commandline/bootloadHID.exe (https://github.com/whiteneon/bootloadHID/blob/master/commandline/bootloadHID.exe))
I believe it won't be hard to make QMK toolbox support BootloadHID bootloader since both the binary and source code of bootloadHID.exe are available. The QMK toolbox will need to be modified to recognize devices using BootloadHID in bootloader mode. (VID: 16C0, PID: 05DF)
To change the bootloader to Atmel DFU bootloader, you'll need to use an ISP flasher to ISP flash the DFU bootloader.(https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware/blob/master/util/bootloader_atmega32u4_1_0_0.hex (https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware/blob/master/util/bootloader_atmega32u4_1_0_0.hex))
Also, you will need to change the high fuse setting to 0x99 to make the board functions correctly with DFU bootloader. (IMPORTANT)

No problem, I myself stuck for a bit until I realized the size (and some behaviors) of these two bootloaders are different. Therefore, different BOOTSZ1, BOOTSZ0, and BOOTRST fuse bits are required.
Be sure not to mess with other fuse settings (especially LOCKBIT) though. Thanks for helping my mate. So detail!
Happy to help.
For people without access to the hardware required for ISP flashing but still would like to use QMK toolbox for firmware flashing, I've modified the QMK toolbox to be compatible with devices using bootloadHID.
My fork of the QMK toolbox can be found here. (https://github.com/wjchen-vlsi/qmk_toolbox (https://github.com/wjchen-vlsi/qmk_toolbox))
I would suggest you wait for jackhumbert to review my changes and hopefully merge my pull request into the upstream branch (and a official release).
If you absolutely can't wait, here is the compiled QMK toolbox executable that supports bootloadHID. (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1WMQJStONnROpGvzD4XitX0RXJuPk3s7u (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1WMQJStONnROpGvzD4XitX0RXJuPk3s7u))

When you say wait for him to review and so on, are you talking about the guy managing the qmk toolbox? So like it will be a part of the software at some point?

Really happy with the way the brass plate and titanium badge match each other. Pic doesn't do the keyboard justice. It's an incredibly beautiful piece of metal.
Now to wait for those incoming vintage blacks and vintage linear greys, save up for DSA Granite and learn how to solder properly. Possibly also look into a custom titanium badge. By the way, is that CAD file released publicly yet? It was mentioned earlier in the thread.
It's a slow process, but I'm in it for the long haul.

Excellent! Custom badges is like a "hidden" feature of this board. I think it'll be really interesting to see where that leads and what people in the community will come up with.
Any further news about a possibility for a CAD66 PCB GB? Perhaps too soon to say. Just wondering because individually controlled LEDs. ;D
I just finished building mine, unfortunately left arrow key doesn't work :( It seems to be PCB issue, as tweezer test fails as well. I see the black element near that key is misaligned. How can I fix this? I soldered several keyboards so far, but other than that my knowledge of soldering and electronics is really poor.
Hey guys, I decided to test my PCB before soldering it and was wondering what the top two keys on the right of the LEDs do on the stock keymap. The one on the very top seems to mess with the LEDs and the one below it doesn't seem to do anything. Also I think the third LED down is dead as well. Any advice would be appreciated.

Photo attached - I could not focus it any better, but it should be visible. It's the black one on the right. Should I try aligning it manually and soldering its left leg?

Yeah you should. Its not too hard. It looks like its not making contact to the solder point
I just finished building mine, unfortunately left arrow key doesn't work I see the black element near that key is misaligned. How can I fix this?
I looked at your pic and this would be a very easy fix. Grab a hold of the resistor with your tweezers and apply light pressure with your soldering gun to each side to remove the resistor. The solder comes off just like tape. Then make sure to clean up either sides excess solder to prevent bleed over from the two contact points. Reset the resistor between the two contacts and tap the soldering tip to the first side to wet it to the pcb and then the second side. Please be careful not to ever touch the tip to the black resistor itself, only to the contact points.
The work is very forgiving otherwise as you may need to repeat the step to get it right.
Oh and please be sure to observe polarity so make sure it is seated with the writing in the same direction as all the other resistors.
My thoughts on the keyboard:
- I like the configurator, but I would really love to be able to do everything in Linux, so I might try the solution for alternate bootloader soon
- The case doesn't sit entirely flush on the desk, I had to add a small rubber feet at one side
I put silencing foam inside mine and it sounds much better.
- This is the first keyboard I am completely sure I need to mod with silencing foam, because there is a lot of echo and ping - given I use
I put silencing foam inside mine and it sounds much better.
So, my CA66 is having a strange issue. I was using it with my work Macbook Pro, and it was fine for hours, but then I woke the laptop from sleep mode. The LEDs turned white, and the keyboard is no longer working. I unplugged and replugged it, which didn't work. I have tried reflashing it but it will not enter bootloader mode. The LEDs come on but are solid white. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?
It works :D
In the heat of the battle I initially soldered a resistor at neighboring switch :p Those parts are small compared to switches so it took me a while, but now my left arrow key works perfectly.
Thanks for everyone for their solutions :thumb:
My thoughts on the keyboard:
- It's brown in low light and burgundy in bright light. If the whole case was the color of the back plate I would be happy, but as it is it's a bit too browny for me
- It's really fast for typing and I really enjoy the bottom edge which is enough for my thumbs to rest (which is the way I'm used to put them)
- I like the configurator, but I would really love to be able to do everything in Linux, so I might try the solution for alternate bootloader soon
- The texture is not as smooth as my other anodized keyboards, which makes for more classy look, but becomes dirty very quickly
- The case doesn't sit entirely flush on the desk, I had to add a small rubber feet at one side
- This is the first keyboard I am completely sure I need to mod with silencing foam, because there is a lot of echo and ping - given I use Zilents and properly lubed stabilizers for the first time it would be a shame to not keep it really silent.
- The cable I used initially (which comes from my phone) worked fine, but when I started using dedicated one I have to apply significant force to remove it
- The case is high profile, but some of the caps of my MT3 /dev/tty set are tiny bit above the case
- My case has some minor imperfections on the inner side of the bottom plate (which I don't care about)
This may sound like some bashing, but in fact this keyboard comes very close to my mythical "end game" :) The good stuff, like perfect layout, nice bottom space, low height and QMK support I knew from the start, so while I would love to receive perfect product I am happy what I got is close enough and with some mods I should be able to make it the best keyboard I have.
Also props to GB runner for quick responses and basically on time delivery - reading through some other threads it's really not that common these days. Btw. my package was picked up at 1am in HK and arrived to my office in Poland the next day at 3pm, which I find amazing. That's probably the magic of express delivery :)
Is it possible to enable NKRO using the online editor? It looks like I can only use 6kro.
I put silencing foam inside mine and it sounds much better.
What kind of foam did you use?

Sounds exactly like an issue myself and some other QMK users are experiencing (with an M65-A). There was a closed issue on GitHub that I recently posted on and resurrected - please read through this and follow these instructions. I think it will help. And ignore the "boot magic" stuff, it seems to just be an issue when going in/out of sleep mode with RGB on.

I just tried some LEDs for some in switch lighting but noticed that the LEDs are suuuper dim. Can you adjust brightness somehow or is that just the way it is? I see on the flashing tool that there's apparently keys to increase brightness on the first layer, but I can't seem to control anything. Mind you, I haven't soldered in switches yet, I'm just jumping the contacts atm with pieces of wire, maybe I'm doing something wrong. What's the default layer 1 button?

Can we talk about bottom row layouts? Why do some people prefer the 1u in by the spacebar and others on the outside? I feel like Alt should be larger and next to space. Why change it?

A part of me was hoping I wouldn't like this board so I could sell it and have some extra money but... look at this thing X_XShow Image(https://i.imgur.com/OsJw1gu.jpg?1)

Finished my build last weekend, Dark Grey case, Brass plate, MX Zilent switches, MaxKeys SA Ashen caps.
This is such a nice board. it's far lighter than it looks like it should be, but still has a nice heft to it.
Programming was super easy with qmk configurator. though or some reason the up arrow of the arrow cluster and the bottom key in the nav column were switched when I flashed it.
Thank you PlayKeyboardTW for running such a great GB!
For those who want to custom your plates and badges, you can find them files here (also in the bottom of main post):

that you have all these people interested in another GB, it should happen again soon, right? :p
Will make another IC after all orders are done completely.

How has nobody commented on this?
Is that just a camera trick? That looks SO WHITE! I'm actually kind of jealous...
BEAUTIFUL!
I also wanted to post that I finally got around to building mine. Box Royals which feel a lot smoother on the SA Row1 than I anticipated. (Scratchy experience with Hakos in the past).
This has been a great GB experience for me, lots of communication and status updates, even videos on the shipping. It might feel mundane but I know participants like me just loved the transparency of it.Show Image(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180613/a7a2477fc45058b31fa24bff6761b088.jpg)Show Image(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180613/1a117af97accb2fa6af73c309271ebfb.jpg)

Here's my purple ca66 with Pristine (eventually either Phantom or Taro when they show up). Tried a bunch of different plate /switch combos- navies, ergo clears, alu plates, brass plates, etc.. and ended up settling with lubed switch filmed gat blacks on brass with sound dampening foam inside.

^ That Hyperfuse is amazing. You can probably just bridge the bad pads on the pcb.
@play_keyboard: I screwed up my PCB (wanted to change switches, so I desoldered, and I think I must have damaged a line - though I can't see where), and some keys no longer work :(. Rest of board seems fine, LED animation plays etc. Are there any options? Can I buy another PCB, or maybe buy the file to get a new one made?

Just built my CA66 and for the life of me I can not get it into bootloader mode. I've tried different cables and computers. You just hold down Escape while plugging it in right?I had to change ports a couple of times, but yes plugging in via ESC should work. LED strip should turn all white when in DFU mode (ready to flash)

I'm getting closer to starting soldering. I haven't built a keyboard before. I haven't soldered in 30 years.Yeah that’s how is supposed to look. You can test out your pcb before soldering by plugging it in and testing each set of switch pads using a set of tweezers
Does this solder point look OK? Both my PCBs look like this. I think it's for the \| key. Will I be able to make this work?
Yeah that’s how is supposed to look. You can test out your pcb before soldering by plugging it in and testing each set of switch pads using a set of tweezersI tested with tweezers from the top side, and everything works. I'm just worried about soldering this switch when there is no visible pad on the bottom side. Will I have to do something different with pads like this?

That makes sense, but I don't see what looks like damage from visual inspection on most of the board (I can see what looks like a probable cause for one key, but not the others, which aren't closeby).
dammit. missed this GB. any plans of bringing it back?

Thanks for the help. I was finally able to get it into bootloader by jumping reset and vcc on the back of the board itself.

Yes, it broke at work and when I went home to try on my PC nothing would work either.
Tried reflashing but it won't recognize the device at all.

Having a similar issue myself. Board was plugged in and sitting there and the lights went all white randomly like it is in bootloader mode. After that I can't get it to recognize to reflash. Tried multiple cables, windows box, mac box and even checked on my linux box just to see if it even shows up but nothing. If I open it up and bridge the reset and ground it will reset but still doesn't come up as a flashable device. Don't really know where to go from here. I guess the pcb died though I have no idea why it would have. Wasn't even touching it when it happened.

Is it possible to buy another PCB? I forgot to get a second pcb and have an extra plate from my original order. I'd love to build a second PCB plate and have something else to drop into the case.

I do have screw in stabs. Removing them doesn't seem to solve the problem at this point. Curious if that could have anything to do with it going bad in the first place? It would definitely be a first for me, had several boards with them previously without issue.

Yes it does have a chance to short if the screw contact PCB pads. I myself put screws in plastic firm rings to avoid contacts.
It really varies from PCB to PCB. In general the more layouts a PCB offers, the more often your stabilizers will need insulation between the stabilizers screws and PCB pads.Having a similar issue myself.
Final update: Looks like the culprit is likely my Macbook Pro at work. It's one of the new USB-C only versions, and people are reporting that these are frying peripherals due to weird power surges in the ports. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=16971052
I've messaged PlayKeyboardTW and hopefully there are extra PCBs available, because I do like having a backup. Be careful where you're plugging in your keyboards apparently!

So your PC doesn't recognize the board when you plug it in at all? If it DOES recognize it, try resetting eeprom first, then re-flashing.

Finally came around to build the CA66 and it really is super nice and beautiful! I will post pictures soon, want to customize a little first (since I just now finished it). :DWhy do you want to port it? It's already available on the QMK repo.
Question: I want to "port" the board to QMK. But since I'm a beginner still with QMK, I wonder if the default TMK file is somewhere available for download? Or can I somehow download the Hex file from the keyboard? Just in case something is going wrong.
One other thing: I built it with split spacebar and am using SA keycaps and I have the problem that the "right" spacebar (2.75U) is sometimes slightly touching the case. It's not too bad, but it doesn't feel all that well. Anyone with the same setup and problem?
Ah sorry, I used the wrong word ofc. What I meant was the bootloader thing: Don‘t I have to do something with it to be able to use QMK? I read something a few pages back, but I might not have read this correctly..Finally came around to build the CA66 and it really is super nice and beautiful! No worries, go the first post >FEATURES OF PCB> Flashing Guide. Choose either Mac/Windows and that'll have all the info you need. All you need is a hex file.Ah sorry, I used the wrong word ofc. Sad news- add me to the growing list of people with a bricked PCB. Here’s what happened and what I’ve tried:
1 - use CA66 happily for a couple of months,
2 - watching full screen video on desktop computer running Windows 10,
3 - hear USB disconnect sound, lights on CA66 turn on and are all white (I had them turned off previously, they only lit when holding the function key)
4 - error message, "The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."
5 - each time I plug into a different computer I get the same error message,
6 - attempt to re-flash with eeprom reset and ca66 hex files. Hold down “ESC” and plug in, no error message, but both boot loader and QMK toolbox software are unable to find a device to flash
Has anyone found a workaround or discovered the cause? I hope others can avoid these issues if we are able the identify what is going wrong.
I have had this happen to me, but I was able to recover the board by reflashing the firmware. Windows showed an error that a device (the keyboard) was using too much power. This makes me believe that the failure was due to a bad USB-C cable.that's a good guess. a bad cable can definitely fry an input device. i had a bad micro-usb fry my intuos tablet.
When you say “this round” do you mean the 1st round, or the round that hasn’t shipped yet?
Add me to the growing list as well of PCB problems. Mine just started doing this. I'll be working and all of sudden get a Windows 10"USB Device" error and the keyboard will become unresponsive. Unplugging it and then plugging it back in solves the problem but I'm sure it's just a matter of time before it gets bricked.
What's odd is that it's been fine since I got it and it's happening all of a sudden. Same computer, same usb cable, just started happening.
Hi guys,Have any modifications been made to the PCB for round 2?
Sorry to hear those bricked situations happened to some PCBs. :(
Since it's been a while after the first round CA66s have been shipped we will have after-sale service for those PCBs (before 2019.1.1):
1. If you bought 2 pieces of PCBs, we will offer one for free for replacement
2. If you got 1, then it will be half price.
Thanks! :thumb:

WKL should have a logo badge n top left cornerIt's a bit late for suggestions, IC ended a long time ago
Mine worked fine for almost a year, but recently - probably encouraged by the posts in this thread - it started acting weirdly. I had to replug it sometimes, the LEDs sometimes went on by themselves and in last days it caused other USB devices to crash (at least I suspect the keyboard to be the reason). Finally the rightmost column died completely and the other symptoms stopped happening (but I'll wait some more days just to be certain). This is exactly what happened to me 5 minute ago. I just got to work and now my right most column + LEDs don't register but everything else works fine. I now have a 60% lol.
The keyboard is bearable for me in current state (because I rarely use rightmost column), but of course I would rather have it fully functional (instead of being afraid of it dying completely any moment), so I'm looking forward to replacement PCBs.
Hi guys,Thanks so much for this. How should we go about doing this? PM on GH, email? I bought 2 PCBs in the first round.

I'm curious to know what's causing this issue on these PCBs. I have had issues with PCBs in the past where I've had to bridge a pad or fix some soldering but it's one time thing. You fix it and it's good to go but this pcb seems to keep deteriorating more and more over time. Wonder what's the cause.

Could be weakened solder joints on some diodes. I would carefully (on lower soldering iron temperature, suitable for SMD components) reflow the solder on all the diodes. Thanks for this info, I'll give this a shot this weekend.
I had an issue with the q-row, or more specifically just the 'q' key not working at times when I first built my ca66. It was pretty mystifying as all the solder/joints looked good. What got it working was really making sure the ribbon cable was fully and correctly inserted into the daughter pcb-port; it's possible that could loosen over time if not initially seated correctly. May not be the problem in some cases, but worth a shot to check since it's an easy adjustment! Good luck!I'll give this a go as well. Worth trying since it's pretty easy. Thanks!
For anyone out there still experiencing PCB issues, try running QMK if you aren’t already.
My first PCB bricked on me about 4 months in. On my second PCB, after a few months of use, I started noticing similar issues as several of you are mentioning here: my “S” key or the four vertical keys on the right would randomly stop working, and wouldn’t work again until I unplugged the USB and plugged back in. Both were running the TMK firmware and layouts made with the YD Keymap Builder.
Decided that it if was going to die, I was going to at least try running QMK on since keymap.c files for the CA66 started showing up on github. Since switching over I have not had a single similar issue arise. Only complaint is that I can’t seem to get the caps lock LED to work.
QMK works on mine, but my "up" arrow key is the bottom right macro and vice versa on the configurator.
That sounds great, but could you please share some more details (possibly screenshots) with those of us who are less acquainted with the matter in hand? For me "rebuilding the column" does not tell much.
If there is a short between E6 and VCC, I would suspect solder bridging the gap between the pins/pads as the culprit, and cleaning up that area could solve the issue.I very much expected that as well but couldn't find any solder issues. The pads and pins on the MCU appeared fine. Might have missed something though.
Yes, what jrfhoutx said is correct. Although I didn't cut the trace and did actually rewire the column since I didn't feel like cutting into the PCB. And yes you would have to be comfortable updating the config file in QMK to change the pins to use this solution. If there is a short between E6 and VCC, I would suspect solder bridging the gap between the pins/pads as the culprit, and cleaning up that area could solve the issue.I very much expected that as well but couldn't find any solder issues. Out of curiosity, has anyone on the thread received a replacement PCB from PlayKeyboardTW yet, or are replacements on hold until the new round ships out? (After many months of working great, my CA66 from the last round died yesterday.)

**PCB FIXED**
Hey y'all. I was able to find a solution to fix my ca66 PCB. My PCB issues followed a pattern that a lot of other folks are reporting which begins with the right most column failing and getting "Power surge on USB" errors.
After testing the right column with a voltmeter and determining that everything was working correctly (solder joints, diodes,etc..), I turned my attention to the MCU and checked the pinout. The right most column uses pin E6 which is right next to VCC. On a hunch that there maybe a trace routing/solder issue around there (this would explain the "Power surge" errors if it hits VCC) I decided to remap the right column from E6 to an available empty pin (D0) and rebuilt the column. And presto it works.
Typing this on it right now. Hope this helps anyone else having this issue! :thumb:

I finally gave this approach a go - I used a jumper wire to connect D0 to E6 track (at the hole where it goes to the other side of the PCB), reconfigured column pins in QMK and rightmost column now works fine :thumb:
However, I have one doubt - should I also cut the E6 track before the connection point? I'm not really too much into electronics, but my understanding is that if there is this short between VCC and E6 I can still experience power surges if I don't cut E6 track.
Does anyone know how to apply for a free replacement PCB from round 2? It was mentioned that round 1 buyers could get a free pcb when round 2 was over.
Hopefully they have a replacement for you, but if not I'm probably going to sell my built non-bt PCB with lubed sakurios. Will be cheap as I had to file the plate. Decided I don't like linears thus the saleDoes anyone know how to apply for a free replacement PCB from round 2? It was mentioned that round 1 buyers could get a free pcb when round 2 was over.
Details on how haven’t been released yet, I’m sure they’ll let us know when they’re done taking care of all the round 2 issues.
For anyone interested, I'm currently working on a replacement pcb for the CA66.
Last round of prototypes should be ordered soon, and then I'll open a buy for them. probably sometime around Dec or Jan.

Very interested! Please, keep us updated. Will it be BT or non-BT? Hotswap maybe? Would love BT + Hotswap.

Will definitely keep everyone updated. It will not be BT, maybe once QMK has better BT support I’ll do a BT version, but not right now. Also no hotswap. I’m not a big fan of hotswap tbh. I don’t plan on this being something that isn’t supported or available after the initial buy.
Lastest round of prototypes are in, will assemble a few and send them to my testers on my next day off of work (Monday).
Just means to solder the switch onto the FRONT of the PCB. There is a 4x4 led square that some people put around the Escape key. I don't think it was part of the kit. If you plan to add that, you need to trim the component outlined with the red rectagle to ensure it doesn't make contact.Ah alright. I don't have plans to add that 4x4 led square so other than installing the switch at the front of the PCB, I'll just ignore this whole part then.
