Led backlight modding for Rapoo V500
« on: Tue, 31 May 2016, 10:56:42 »
Hi all,
I have a Rapoo V500 mechanical keyboard .
I've been using it for over a year and satisfied. Although I was upgraded to K70, but I still keep V500 as a memory of my first mechkey.
Now, I have an idea of modding LED backlight for V500, but really do not know the idea is feasible or not?
Has anyone done this yet? is the board of V500 is possible to add the 3mm 2 pin LED on it?
I've discovered that on the PCB of Rapoo v500, there are no pin hole for led backlight existed.
So maybe, there is no way to mod the LED on this V500

Welcome to gh :)

If there aren't holes for the LEDs I think your only option would be desoldering all the switches and modifying the bottom part of the switch cases so the LED leads come out the side.  Put the switches through the plate, add the LEDs and wire them up (you'll need to find 5v and connect a transistor to it, and as there's no firmware support I'd suggest a switch) then resolder the switches to the PCB.

Not impossible, but a lot of work!

Ok, after a quick investigation.
This is what i've found.
No holes in the back of pcb, holes in the switches, there are two led in the Win lock and M button

So in this case, i'll not have to mod the switch itself, the only thing i should do is connect all the LED to a power source, that is what i'm looking for right now.

You still need to get wires to the leads inside the switch!

Today, I've decided to change all the switches to Cherry MX brown. and make the LEDs come with it

Do you have any guide to do with the led?
I can simple replace the switches, but LED is a something new for me.
