I'm here.  ;)

And I've got two 84-key Model M spacesavers on their way here from an Ebay seller.  I ALSO have some vinyl dye on the way...so I will have some pics of something interesting in the near future.

Nobody else bid on it but me.  I was actually surprised that I wasn't outbid.

Speaking of ebay... I'm experiencing buyer's remorse right now.  I jut bought a Microsoft Multimedia Natural Keyboard (new).  I bid in the last 5 minutes a couple of times, having firmly decided that I don't actually want it... I think I was kind of pissed off at getting sniped at the very last minute of an auction for an MS Natural Pro a couple of days ago, which I really did want.  So I thought why not make life a bit more expen$ive for someone else.  So is the correct terminology backfire or blowback?

I've never seen an item on ebay I just HAD to have.  So I typically just set my max bid at the top dollar I am willing to pay.  If I get it, fine.  If I don't, then congrats to someone else that was willing to spend more than I was.

I actually prefer the middle of Wisconsin to a Caribbean cruise.

I think he means that it's more peaceful up there than being on a cruise, where the original purpose was to be peaceful to yourself and your fellow cruise-mates, not orgy-ridden and disturb those who want to sleep during the night, lol

Congrats.

One deal it was, but I have gotten what I have paid for.  A bunch of keys are defective on the main keyboard, but the keypad works fine.  I think I'm going to have to solder the defective ones with the ones from the keypad (I have two keypads).  I haven't counted how many though.  I hope it's less than 22.

That sucks, man, I'm sorry. I got my Apple with orange Alps sliders and the f and b don't work. I bought it off some tool that took six months to ship it to me, so no chance of a return there.

I'm not a pro at soldering, but I might try it, since I don't have much of a keyboard to start out with.

I'm also debating with myself if I were to pick between the two, should I get the Realforce or the HHKP2?

I'm a firm believer in buying both if I can't decide. Later on, I just eBay the stuff I don't want.

Does anybody have both?  I want a keyboard that has a strong sound.  Which one?  Youtube sucks at sound playback.

What kind of sound do you like? I prefer the clicky and springy sound from my Alps boards with black and orange sliders, but there is something satisfying about the HHKB Pro and the Cherry switches have a sound all their own. By your sig, it looks like you have several Cherry boards and an Alps and a buckling spring, so let us know what you're into.

I don't really like the Cherry keyboards that much because of it's high-pitched sound compared to the Alps switches.  I want something with low undertones.  I like the Model M because it has a crisp sound, which makes the high overtones negligible enough for me.  Lately, I've been using the SGI granite colored keyboard with white Alps (tactile non-clicky).  It feels and sounds similar to the Apple Extended II keyboard (family number M3501), just to let those who have one know what I have sounds like.

I recommend you try capacitive switches. They have a duller thud than even the Alps, but they aren't too loud. Plus, they aren't high pitched at all and sound nothing like the Cherry's.

The other thing about these swtches is they have some sort of a snap feeling when you push the keys and it is really satisfying.

With the capacitive switches, your tactile feedback is exclusively provided by springs.

Would you say that the keyswitches are similar to this one?  The one in the link is the one I have currently.  Has anybody with an HHKP2 tried pulling out a keycap and looking at it?

Aww poop, I forgot I asked that question, but anyways, I'm assuming that they are similar in construction?  So does that make me a HHKP2 owner wannabe (even though the one I have was made during the 90s)?
