I'd be in for a HHKB layout if the price is reasonable

I hear what you're saying about the mod symmetry but I'd love to see this on a tight 65% layout (arrow key blocker only). Unfortunately I just can't bring myself to use 60%s anymore.

Prototype PCBs are in. But I'm still waiting for the components to arrive. Pending no issues with the PCB, after I build one, I'll most hold a raffle for 3 of them for free (not including shipping) with a backplate, components, and spacers through an event (most likely Instagram like & tag).

awe snap, I didn't see that it was Alps compatible.  Okay.  I'm in.

I would also prefer not having the argyle pattern printed on the PCB.

Make sure you fill out the IC form in the Original post.  There is a section where you can tell him that.

For us HHKB fans, Can you move the 1.5U left shift over to the right, exchanging places with the 1U key?  It would make an HHKB layout very symmetrical, and quite possibly improve on that design even more!

I was thinking that the black one would make a nice office keyboard, and then I saw additional renders for white with red PCB!
Both options look so nice, it's quite hard to choose between the two.  :thumb:

Does the case have a seam? The renders don't show it but the bottom makes me think it has one. I like the design but I don't buy keyboards with seams because I don't really like it unless the designs is amazing like this one! haha.

Can you tell us if it's going to be an limited or unlimited GB?

It will be limited. The details and options are still being hashed out but you can probably expect 100 to 200 units. Most likely right in the middle at around 150.

Yes, it has a seam.

What's the intent with the I2C header?  If you rearranged the pins so it is GND 5v SCK SDA, one could install an OLED in that location as well.

Show Image

As I only commissioned the design, I do not know the intent of the I2C header.

An OLED would be a great idea. However, I'm afraid I would not want to add it currently. If there is a 2nd round, it would definitely be considered.

I'm not suggesting you add the OLED, I'm suggesting you slightly change the pin arrangement so others can.

The pin arrangement has been changed. But since it was not in the scope of the commission, OLED functionality will not be provided by us. Hopefully someone in the community can.

Thank you for your answer. I hope you will consider to raffle the GB spots and not FCFS. I feel like at least with the raffle, everyone has got the same chance. I can't compete with bots in the FCFS format. I tried joining many GBs that were limited and never got in. Not once.

love the design aesthetic, especially the black. it's longer lengthwise than most 60s, so feels a little counter intuitive in terms of working against one of the benefits of a 60 keyboard.

still debating as it feels more like show piece than a daily driver, but at least it presents a 60 keyboard that is visually striking compared to others.

No denying that the main focus of this keyboard is the through-hole aesthetics. The other through-hole kits like the plaid, discipline, and gingham are the same. There's no real reason for the components to be in a separate area unless it is to give some visual impact. The Argyle is just taking that a step further. So, yes, the design is not functional, but I hope to deliver a more premium feel than simple sandwich mount PCB kits while keeping the aesthetics.

Thank you for your answer. I hope you will consider to raffle the GB spots and not FCFS. I feel like at least with the raffle, everyone has got the same chance. I can't compete with bots in the FCFS format. I tried joining many GBs that were limited and never got in. Not once.

The plan is to have multiple vendors. And it is easiest for them to simply do a FCFS format GB. If the first GB is successful, I would be love to have additional rounds.

I think you said you might do a 65 and 75% after the 60%, I'm sure it's very hard to estimate times but can you guestimate when would they be available ? If I have to wait like 1-2years to get the other version then I might just jump on the 60 lol

I'm sorry. I really can't say. It depends on many different factors.

A shortened but not so short version: The design for the 65% isn't going to start until the 60% GB is over. First, a prototype for the 60% needs to be approved by Jae (of Prototypist) and I. Also, we'd need to find a date range that all the vendors can agree on to run the GB. After the 60% GB ends, then would come the design phase of the 65%. I haven't given too much thought on what changes I'd make if any for the 65% version other than the layout. After the design is completed and approved, we'd go to prototype phase. Again, a proto would need to be approved before GB for the 65%.

Any time estimate I give now would just really be a random guess. This would be my first keyboard GB and it really has given me a lot of insight in how complicated the process is.

Hey Seoulcialite, not sure if it's too late for this but, would it be possible to put an LED beside each one of the diodes and have the LED light up when electricity flowed through it?

Edit: Hmmm... perhaps it would make the sides too wide.

Yeaaaaa.... more than a couple of problems with that. That would require drastic changes to the PCB and housing. Design for the PCB already been completed and I already have the prototype PCBs with me. Prototype housing has been made and is now in the hands of Jae (of ProtoTypist) for fitment testing. I think it would definitely tip the balance aesthetic and functionality in a negative way.

Is there a discord for updates?

Not at the moment. I will post discord info once the prototype is approved and we get a better estimate on when the GB will run.
