That's really cool. Interesting how the stems are positioned for the different layout. I wonder how stable they are?

Those were prototype keycaps for Thumb-Shift(a Japanese input method), which were made by PFU a few years ago. But No official statement from PFU, as far as I know.

Is the right key just the 変換 key or is this Thumb-Shift something different?
If he explains it in the article I've missed it, but my Japanese is still awful, so please forgive me. :)

ejewell89, I don't think they published files somewhere but you can still contact pfu at twitter with @PFU_HHKB.
LiamOS, yes, it is just a keycap and the key still work as '変換'. You have to install software on host like Japanist, Atok or summat to use "Thumb-shift" input method.

That's pretty cool, I'm a huge fan of split spacebars. The one config I actually like more than the split spacebar is my HHKB JP layout. Right is space, left is backspace, and the "spacebar" is tab (hold for layer switch). I love it. Like, literally in love with it. I think he's just indicating that you can Tweet to PFU to ask what the status of this is and if it'll ever come to market.
