[GB] SA Calm Depths
« on: Wed, 06 March 2019, 19:26:11 »
Calm Depths is an incredibly beautiful set, orginally designed by CalmB4tehPwn - and one of my personal favorites. It has excellent contrast and a perfect pairing of blue and grey.

Kono Store Group Buy - https://kono.store/products/sa-calm-depths

I actually began taking photos of mechanical keyboards because of this photo -

At Kono - we have the ability to make certain sets much more readily available, sometimes on a permanent basis. My goal is to accomplish this with Calm Depths in SA Profile - by putting together a group buy to be produced by Maxkey. This group buy will launch on March 7th, 2019, close on April 12th, 2019 and production time will take 10 weeks. Expected shipping is July 2019.

We plan to work with mykeyboard.eu as a European proxy and may include additional proxies later.

The group buy price will be $109.99 for a complete set.

Here are some product images -

Orders will ship from Kono's Utah based warehouse to the rest of the world - shipping is a approximately $10 in the US and $20 anywhere else in the world.

Here is a photo of the complete set -

Thank you to CalmB4tehPwn for making my favorite set and for introducing me to the wild world of keycaps!

Very random question: would anyone have a pic of calm depths and dasher/dancer sitting nest to each other? Trying to figure out if CD alphas could work with Dasher mods. Thanks  :thumb:

Can folks with the SP  version and the MaxKey version post some comparison shots ?

- Is the Maxkey alpha keys color (dark blue) lighter than the SP version?
- Is the first image that of the SP version ? Looks smooth and not as matte as MaxKey finish.

Anyone with insights ?

I don't have the SP set to compare it to but the Maxkey set seems extremely close in my opinion. Maxkey SA sets do have a matte finish while SP sets are more of a satin, which might be why the set appears different in certain lighting conditions.

Thanks for the pics! The SP version does seem to have deeper colors/more contrast, but perhaps that just the lighting. I’m in either way.

Lighting really affects this set, so we requested evidence that the colors matched the original colorways. Maxkey sent over this:

We feel confident that they are accurate to the original based on this.

Honestly I think a lot of that is just the photography myself. If you go over to the SA Calm Depths groupbuy post from the previous run you'll find a decent amount of pictures of sets in various lighting conditions, including a similar slightly more washed out one from me.

Personally my only digital camera is the one on my galaxy S6, so color accuracy isn't amazing, but the matte finish does mean that this set looks different in various lighting settings, whereas my SP SA sets typically appear richer.

Overall though I'd recommend joining if you want an SA set of calm depths (like I did). The quality is really great, the price isn't bad, and really the only difference is the satin vs matte finish.

Yes - I’m in either way. I felt like the sp sa has deeper colors than Mackey, but like you guys pointed out, the matte texture and lighting both will have a huge influence. I have other max key sets like foundation, orange on black and royalty, and I do like them, but I do like so more for the feel- the smooth plastic shine somehow works well on spherical tops I feel.

Had a discussion on the mass drop sa pulse drop with someone who, like me, likes the shine on sp sa. He said he typically shines them up with some isopropyl alcohol to make the shine even across the caps. I might try that on my beater orange and black set to see how it goes :)

Ha! That was me.  ^-^

I've never tried it on a Maxkey cap though.
