GMK Analog Dreams 2

~ June 4th to June 25th ~

That's right folks, Analog Dreams is back and better than ever.
For those of you who may not know, Analog Dreams is my interpretation of a vaporwave-themed keyset.
For Round 2 I'm also introducing a new sister set called Digital Nightmares.
Where Analog Dreams has Hiragana, Digital Nightmares has Katakana.
Where Analog Dreams is vaporwave, Digital Nightmares leans towards something more like synthwave, but retains the pastels to tie the two sets together.
On with the show.

Kits

2 base kits: Analog Dreams and Digital Nightmares.
Both feature as comprehensive base coverage as you'll find in GMK: Fullsize, TKL (even those F13 ones), 75%, 65%,
60%, 1800, physical ISO, Alice, and basic 40s support, don't even need a separate spacebar kit!
The pastels of Digital Nightmares are the same as Analog Dreams and while I was deciding on a good base purple,
I realized I had a great one on hand already, so it's actually the same color as GMK Taro's modifiers.

Expanded a bit from R1, I added 65% column support and some fun windowed caps to lean into the faux-vintage a e s t h e t i c.
Note: rendered with purple LEDs, the windows themselves are uncolored.

So in the interest of keeping things straightforward and simplified, and considering that alpha kits don't do super amazing lately, I had to choose one set of alphas or the other, and going with Hiragana just felt more true to the theme of the set.

Welp, so be it! I am in for this. Also I kinda agree that Hiragana base + deskmat looks mad. Lowkey I still wish for an alphas kit just because I loved R1 so much but unfortunately have not been able to get my hands on it.

I passed on R1 due to the cost of Base + Alt Alphas + Novelties and regretted it once it started shipping. Super happy to see sublegends as base this round! Also the inclusion of 40s in base is great. There's a good chance I pick up everything this round.

Can you add 1.25u L9 spacekey? There is no 1.25U L9 spacekey in any of the r2 kits. There are 1.25U spacekey in accent color. There was 1.25u L9 spacekey in r1 spacebars.

But it is normal to mix hiragana and katakana in the Japanese language.
And it would be more strange to me to write "anarogu dorimusu" in Hiragana since it's a foreign word and thus should be written in Katakana.

Oh interesting. I didnt know that Alix was designed from the same person. I still regret not ordering the ink colorway of the Tokyo60 from back in r1 or 2? This set would probably look nice on it.

That said, for those looking for 3u spacebars, at least there is relief in knowing that the base color for the regular Analog Dreams kit is beige (L9) so if Pwade decides not to add it, it may be around in other kits (beige sets, OG Spacekeys, etc)

Please, consider adding two 1.5U Code keys in the base kit or two 1.5U Novelties

It’s the second most popular OS and 7U bottow row is quite a popular layout.

Also, please consider supporting boards with XT column (Ion Zenith, Alchemist Keyboards Ogr) either by providing an Extension kit (like Striker R2) or with novelties.

Regarding Mac 7u bottom row support, it's not a problem for 90% of the sets. I think sometimes designers just not aware that there is a sizeable portion of people who use Mac, because we silently use novelties instead of 1.5U Super, Code etc.

This is still one of my fav sets, round 1 is beautiful and I'm excited to try out the Digital Nightmares in R2! I may even have to get another set of Analog Dreams just to keep it pristine haha

The only thing I'd have to add is, and I think I said this after getting round 1, that I wish r4 had more novelty types. I'm really happy that I can do a 65% column! but also that is soooo many winkeys. I don't know many people who actually do the two winkeys in the mechanical keyboard hobby and even if they were to, it feels like they could use another novelty key (I know, as someone that does use one winkey and gets sets that have zero winkey options, I have used all sorts of keys for that).

I'd like to bump the opinion of switching up some novelties! Your R1 is absolutely great, but R4 could use some more spice than the winkeys.

Having 40s in the base kit is super exciting, but if you did need to cut cost, I think having a separate 40s kit blocked out would be awesome. Would also help some of us stuck needing an extra R3 1.25u key, and swapping out our other teeny modifiers.

Either way, going all in on this set for my bigger boards!

He mentioned alpha kits not doing well, how about just having latin alpha in base kit and sublegends optional just like R1? For me, the colors of this set are already busy, forcing japanese sublegends makes it too much.
