Just a quick silent movie in HD, showing (as well as I can) the inner workings of the buckling spring. Feel free to reference this if you so wish :-)

I hate that.

It's like those song producers that introduce fuzz into their tracks.  I've wasted more time debugging my audio equipment only to find it's the source.

I feel like A. Something is going to pop out loud B. I just feel like I should keep expecting to hear something

Uh.  It buckles in the other direction.

See the Geekhack Mechanical Keyboard guide or Vintage Switch Wiki for details.

Uhm... oops. Oh well, the theory is sound.

Feel free to re-make one, with sound. If you can find a better quality, macro-HD video of the BS online, I'd love to see it.

There's a great phrase people often use: "Thank you".

Why would I remake one, I don't have a IBM Model M...

Its pointless without sound, the whole reason the Model M is so popular is because of its amazing sound.

It goes something like this: "Click clack, clack CLACK click click clack". Use your imagination, or look at the (numerous) Model M videos on YouTube :).

Yes, I could and will do better, but a thank you would be nice... or even a hint of appreciation.

Exactly, if there are numerous Model M Videos WITH sound showcasing how awesome the Model M sounds why would you post something HD or not without any sound whatsoever?

I mean if someone wanted to watch a model m without sound all they have to do is mute the video. It just seems pointless.

The point is to see inside the mechanism and inspect the parts, not to hear the clicking sound. If you don't like it, I won't be offended if you don't complain about it any more. I see your points, but you missed mine entirely, and it wouldn't be too much for a thank you to be uttered, for my efforts.

Again, find me another Model M video, filmed as clearly as this, showing the internal workings...

Thanks :)

It's like watching HD porn of Meagan Fox with no video output.

I hear all your complaints, and I take no offence to them, as you are right. I'll re-iterate my previous comment: Feel free to make your own, in your own time, and using your own bandwidth, until I make a better one. I'm not a proud person (in the bad sense).

Why do you think you would hear a click from a mechanism which is designed with precision, so that the spring buckles at a precise angle? Go read the Wiki - ripster already explained these things to you. The point is that you see what's inside, and not just a static image of it.

Put your complaints in writing, along with a cheque for £25, and I'll gladly help you

If you wish to do better, do better.

Thank you. :)

It's okay by me :-)

Given the keycap internal shape, it is nigh on impossible to recreate the "snap" of the spring in buckling, due to the fact that the channel which is integral the the key, constrains the spring so that it can ONLY buckle in one direction... it has no other way to buckle. Try synthesising that, it's quite hard :-)

Maybe Unicomp would consider making a video which proudly shows off the mechanism in HD, in-situ, using transparent plastics...

I love the way the little "ramp" inside the key, guides the spring end into place over the tiny post which holds it. Aah, I'm such a geek! ^_____^

What exactly did you do to remove the sound? And was it on purpose? I do give you credit for being one of the first to record and post a video like this.

I capture using Linux, and the audio is way out of sync, so I don't bother. It's not vital right now.

OK, a couple of things:

1.   Despite what Senior Geekhacker Ch123 wrote in the IBM wiki most of the sound comes from the buckling spring and hammer.
2.  I am indeed the #1 Keyboard Expert On The Planet and you really SHOULD have voted for me

http://www.npr.org/player/v2/mediaPlayer.html?action=1&t=1&islist=false&id=99950176&m=99950179&live=1

Should I choose to vote, I shall.

Yes, I'll take your word for that on the sound emination.

You have a poor memory.  Last one.

Must have voted without realising... haha! Okay, you win.
