what would be the difference between clear and transparent? is the transparent just frosted/textured?MX clear is more like white/clear and Transparent is very clear as pictures showed
this is interesting. I was actually wondering how to get some since i saw that red mx mini. xDthat is a 365, i think.
so transparent is frosted, and clear is a milky one. got it.what would be the difference between clear and transparent? is the transparent just frosted/textured?MX clear is more like white/clear and Transparent is very clear as pictures showed
see the first picture, there is the transparent cover on a MX clear, the clear switch is like white. there is the difference.

356 people. 356 mini.....yeah, ******************************************************** them
Innnnnnnnnn ohohoho =Dyes! good to see u in my thread~
won't you run into patent issues from Cherry with doing this in the US or EU?
Might be worthwhile to look into the Kailh Cherry MX Clone switches: http://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/147w7i/the_ripster_switch_guide_to_the_kailh_cherry_mx/ (http://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/147w7i/the_ripster_switch_guide_to_the_kailh_cherry_mx/)
As they already have the basic shape clone. I'm not sure if the top housing is the same and would fit into a cherry base, but if it does this likely would be the cheapest way to-do this
p.s. a little bird told me that there will be extremely limited quantities of the real transparent cherry switches for sale at GH in March sometime....
Good idea, but switch tops won't even been seen unless you get transparent caps, which I don't think most people like.
I think something more useful is for you to get mx stems made for cheap. It's ridiculous to pay 80cents for a whole mx clear switch to only harvest the stems. So maybe make duplicates of stems in mx reds, clears, and browns. I'm guessing blue/green will be much more expensive because it's a 2-piece design.
I heard a birdie tell me too Flynn. I am looking towards March to get a few of those clear toppers. :D
If we produce our own, what about the ones coming already?
Form filled.thx :P
Form filled...I MUST HAVE THESE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!yeap i see it XD thx
I filled out the form as well, only for transparent like the OP. The first question of "Are you interested in it? Yes/No" is a bit superfluous. If we fill out all the options in the form, we're obvious interested.:P that is true.
You know, since Cherry made them at one point as a I guess 'custom' order for Nixdorf, maybe we can get them to make some again, but it will be hard to get multiple colors as much as we want freely.
That is true, but if you just pick the most popular color and then just decide on 1 switch type... you could end up with lower cost in the end possibly. Also the possibility of having the entire housing in X color top and bottom. It is just a thought and might be worth a check.i agree so, but i know nobody working in Cherry XD maybe some else can make this true.
Not to soil the party, but I did submit no, just to show to show there are other options, IMO. Don't flame me please! :PAha!
I can't see the pictures either.
This looks amazing. Any updates?
Cant be that hard to mold or 3D print these...
very thank u for ur advice. i will check on the website and see how it goes. At least i have to keep the LED whole on the top, and i am thinking about reduce a lot of details of it. u can just open one and see how complex the switch top is. it is small and accurate. that is Germany industry. that is cherry.Cant be that hard to mold or 3D print these...
3D printers are not really accurate enough for these, even when ordering from professional services such as shapeways. Kinruan, have you checked out www.protomold.com (http://www.protomold.com)? You can get a quote immediately by just uploading your CAD files, and it seems like the molds can be made pretty cheaply too, but it all depends on the complexity of the design (obviously). I know for a fact that parts of the upper housing can be simplified... as long as the design is not overly complex it shouldn't be too expensive. Btw, I'm not a newbie, I'm just a lurker here, I'm more of a DT guy.
I can't see a thing, it says access denied. Can you try to use a normal host like imgur, tinypic, imageshack, flickr, photobucket, etc?I can't see the pictures either.
just fixed!

Interested. Yet, I keep telling myself that nobody is ever going to see them.actually these will come out in the summer.
I heard back from Cherry rep, Cherry does not want to make them at all, and claimed they never have even though I gave picture proof LOL! So I guess press on with the 3rd party and new molds and stuff.
any update on this or has it been abandoned. This, if it hasnt then i'll be interested!

it is definitely working.

So what's the update?
7/19/2013 Update
This group buy is decided! will be on in a couple monthes due to manufacturing
There will be three colors available: MX RED, MX White and Transparent]
pictures will be provided ASAP
i am looking for a CONUS distributor who ships all of them for me, very thank you!!
Notice! i am only the North American Distributor.
Any buyer who is located in Korea, Vietnam.... except Europe, due to Policy i can't sell them to u, very sorry, but there is an Asia Distributor starting a GB soon
im so excited.... but again.. who the f is going to see 'em nice switch covers...
im so excited.... but again.. who the f is going to see 'em nice switch covers...
I'm telling you, man. Those MXers just have no contentment with their crappy switches. Always trying to make any little change to them to be happy...
im so excited.... but again.. who the f is going to see 'em nice switch covers...
There is only one feel: perfect. Wouldn't it just be fun typing on a perfect feeling keyboard every day? Why do people feel the need for varying worse feels?

I'm telling you, man. Those MXers just have no contentment with their crappy switches. Always trying to make any little change to them to be happy...
but theres no modding options for MY switches, only caps, isnt it boring? wouldnt it fun to spend a weekend lubing the switches, have different switch feels and stuff!
And with the transparent tops we could finally see the switch stickers right?
If he's an american distributor, why does he need someone to handle shipping? :-\
Still very excited about this!

You can mess with the springs to completely change the feeling on MY switches!!

Any chance of grey casings like the MX LOCK switch?
Also, will they be ABS? Just wondering if we'd be able to dye them..Show Image(http://deskthority.net/w/images/thumb/3/30/Cherry_MX_Lock_assorted.jpg/799px-Cherry_MX_Lock_assorted.jpg)
that was considered. but really white is a more popular color. white is much easier to match other colors. (white and black: the most traditional classical colors)I have an obsession with grey :(
Maybe the clear ones would help spread the light from LEDs *shrug*
Could also look cool with clear or translucent key caps.
Thanks Ray. I should have read the OP again.
Looking forward to the GB, hopefully shipping to India won't be a problem and a bomb.
Sorry, little confused, are you shipping to Europe or not?

If it's possible then I'll try dying them.

since i am a F*** student living on campus and don't want to see the mad mail lady 9999 times a day.
Not sure if this was brought up before, but it may be a good idea to run a second GB at the same time for the piece that easily removes the switch tops. Just throwing this out there as I would be interested in both that, and the new covers.

You'd be referring to Beast's switch tools which are all handmade by The_Beast himself. I believe he was planning on doing an R2 of the GB for them sometime soon but not sure when.

R2 kind of already happened it was a fairly quick, "get em outta here" done in his classified thread.
no word on an R3 but I'm hoping in R4 for wood handles to be added.
80$ for 200, ouch.. that is quite pricy, almost the costs of the entire switch. 0.40$ each.
I have to do a bit of rethinking here.

that includes the model fee. it will be much more cheaper next round
Ummm can't wait for Asia GB of these :3
I'm still interested. Any idea when the GB will be up? Also, we'd probably get way more order volume with $40 100/pc sets instead of $80 200/pc sets...
100 Piece sets would indeed be better for alot of people. But I think he started with 200 piece sets to get the numbers higher so costs would be reduced.
White is honestly the only color we need, it'll look like whatever color the pcb is underneathDid you mean transparent? Transparent will kinda look like the slider underneath, the PCB will not be visible at all since you still have the bottom part of the switch.

what if someone want 104 or 105? that will take a lot of time packing specific numbers of covers in one single bag,Most of the time when you see springs or switches for sale it's 100, the reason is that most mech users have a TKL or even a 60%, the full size boards are simply not as popular.
200=104/105+87+some left over( if you lost or break a couple of them)
200= 3*GH60 +some left over also!
Seeing as things might break and we need a certain amount of orders that would be a bad idea, people usually don't mind buying a bit too much. Also it will require more sorting work.
Made from ABS, and I think the original ones are ABS as well so they shouldn't break that easily.
or... this might be a bad idea but. why not sell in different packages ie. 65, 90, 110, with 3 different prices.
60% kit = 65 pieces = 26$
80% kit = 90 pieces = 36$
fullsize = 110 pieces = 44$
so people can choose a color for that particular board. I think like would encurage more people to buy. but again that puts more work to the proxy person.
I got to be honest, I didn't read this thread thorugh before posting that. Sorry if it has been mentioned and dismissed already. No biggie, all I remember is that we brought it up before.
Oh dang, that mod is pretty good, mine looks... not as professional when I cut out. but I think it is a great idea to make the LED friendly covers.I used a dremel to grind it down like that. I still had to trim off some of the extra plastic with a small cutter when I was done...but I only did 3 pieces for my QFR. :))
Problem with a prototype is that the mold itself already costs 5000$ according to the OP.Fair point. Is this an exact replica, except without the cherry logo, or has it been somewhat simplified? If so, could we see a 3d mockup?
Without the cherry logo, that would cause problems with copyright. Kinruan has no mockup, but I think apart from the missing logo I think they will be pretty much the same. However I wonder if cherry would actually make a run of colored covers? Anybody got contacts at cherry? I could ask at ZF but the factuory they have here is producing transmissions so I don't think they could help me out.

Apparently Korea already had a small run of these, they do look pretty damned amazing.
