Great looking, classic set. I have the GMK version and will likely pick up the Alert and R5 kits to go with it.

Keyboards / Re: Unpopular Keyboard Opinions
« Last post by TomahawkLabs on Tue, 23 April 2024, 09:31:03 »

r/mk is basically just people showing what they got, which is not even a bad thing, but the mechanical keyboards subreddit really should have more proper discussion.

I think a big factor is reddit and karma and upvotes, which incentivizes people to post things to get more meaningless points, which means that actual discussion is less incentivizes than drama and pics because it doesn't give as many upvotes.

That's why social media with like systems is kinda flawed for discussion. Just my 2 cents though.

I've been in the hobby long enough where seeing a new build of the keyset of the month paired with the group buy delivery of the quarter is no longer interesting. The things that I see that really interest me are
1. Custom work (Cases, PCBs, Handwired, etc) by people who are set out to make something that doesn't exist.
2. "Vintage" keyboards and keycaps before the hobby really blew up (Post-Beige, Pre RGB/Gamer where it was low run group buy aluminum keyboards with group buy keycaps like from Signature Plastic)
3. People who want to mod their keyboard or take the hobby further than "I bought the hot keycap set and the cool keyboard that everyone is talking about". (Tape mod, switch lubing/hybriding, etc)

Geekhack seems to have an older user base and people who have been in the hobby longer and likely have a collection of boards or have tested and ran different layouts/keycap profiles, etc. Because it's not just window shopping or ogling other people's keyboards or setups. It's people sharing their love of keyboards with people who want to ask questions and learn more.

We're thrilled by the overwhelming response to our contest. Every design submitted has been fantastic, making it incredibly challenging for us to narrow down our selection to just some weights & badges for the IC. Now, we want to put the power in your hands! But that's not all – we also want to hear your thoughts on colors!

No screw or lube needed for stabilizers any more

After making our quick assembly design for Zoom65 V3, we discovered we still don't want to spend time on installing stabilizers (most of you should know the pain...).
So...to make sure Zoom65 V3 has a painless installation for ALL STEPS, we've upgraded the stabilizers to our brand new WS Stupid Stabilizers

It features:
Clip-in Design, no screws needed
Silicon around wire holder, TPU Silicone in stem, no more friction with wires
We will send them out with Zoom65V3 for content creators, so you will see how they performs very soon :)

Screwless Quick Assembly System & Magnetic Connection Design

Catchball system GIF

The top and bottom cases can be assembled and disasembled with catchball, there are so many catchballs on the market but most of their elastic will decay after some time.
We spent over 2 months on sourcing a professional manufacturers and finally find one from the 8 we tried. They adjusted the elasticity and gap we needed, making a very good balance to fit into our design.

Magnetic connection system

Normal plug connectors are too big, and we must make sure it can fit our keyboard seamless for the perfect typing feel and sound we want. It's very uneasy for us to find existing one, we tried  about 5, but the whole team felt that we should not compromise on this one.  We really don't want to see it imperfect because of this, so we go deep into the rabbit hole (yes, product development is another rabit hole!!!!) and... CUSTOM IT AGAIN! Result was, 3 more weeks spent...

Magnetic weight for easy changes

Thanks to this updated design, we've modified the round weight on the bottom case for easier installation. Additionally, we offer numerous color options, and we've ensured the 2.4G receiver can be conveniently hidden and stored.

Ergonomics / Matias Ergo Pro vs Kinesis Freestyle Edge ?
« Last post by gutta on Tue, 23 April 2024, 09:12:35 »
Hi,

I'm looking for some advice on an ergo keyboard for programming (so I need all the wonky punctuation keys over by the right pinky finger).

I had been planning on getting an Ergo Pro, but now I see that the Freestyle Edge is available with Cherry brown keys and a left-hand layout more like what I'm used to, making it quite tempting.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how these two would compare?  I read a few comments suggesting that the Matias had issues with the electronics...is that real and is it still a problem?
