NIB G81-1800, grey colour:
CHERRY NEW PC KEYBOARD G81-1800LUMUS-0 16" USB (http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHERRY-NEW-PC-KEYBOARD-G81-1800LUMUS-0-16-USB-/140755070768?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item20c5a7ef30)
Interesting because of the price, and because of the quantity the vendor has in stock (55 left according to the description).
Cherry G81-1800s are described as well-made keyboards, but be warned that most keyboard enthusiasts don't like the Cherry MY FTSC switches. (Personally I think FTSC is great, but it took me quite a while to get used to them: very different to other mechanical switches.)
-
64 usd shipping to AUS no way
-
Yes, but I asked the vendor how much for combined postage for two, and he replied $71.30. That's two new keyboards for less than what you'd pay for one in Aus at retail prices. Not bad I think.
-
the G81 is not very good compare with the G80 and 40 USD shipping for that board still high
-
What key switch do they use?

Lol sorry didn't read the bottom of it, and you know what kinda of key caps they are?

I believe they're lasered ABS because of the LUMUS code but I could be way off.
-
Lasered PBT, and the stabilized keys are incompatible with MX.
-
so for the 31 bucks a 'murican citizen would be paying, this would be well worth it?
-
I have this same keyboard and lysol is dead on. Lasered pbt and the stabilized keys are odd.
However, I did make it into a 25cn "ghetto red" and it is fun to type on. $2 thrift store and nothing for the mod.
-
How'd you turn MY switches into "ghetto reds"?
-
Remove the springs so only the leaf is left. There is a write up on it in the modding section somewhere. It's much lighter than reds, you can actuate by blowing on them practically.
Also I should be more clear and say the stabilized keys are not compatible with Cherry stabilizer, it may be possible to use them on Costar type though I have not tried it.
-
I pulled the spacebar out of my set, and it does appear that the odd stabilizers are costar-compatible. The stem on the spacebar is in the wrong spot, though, so I can't test it for certain. The "bar" on the stabilizer does indeed fit (though tightly) in the costar stabilizer slot. I had to pull the old stabilizer out for obvious reasons, though.
I may mod the stem, as the cherry PBT spacebar is excellent.
Edit: Some sanding may be required, as the cherry MY stabilizer bar seems a bit thicker than the costar. Also, it might not work at all, I wasn't able to test the key travel/action with the stem unmodified.

Pretty much! Hah!

Yeah. And you could also make the modifiers work by cutting/sanding down the plastic "stabilizers" on the back of the keys and moving stems around. Quite a bit of work.
Like I said, this is a very fun board to do a simple mod on if you can get it very cheap. Even then it is still nice for that price if you like the feel of MYs.

You can, I have Cherry lasered on a Noppoo right now. However 1800 format probably means that not all keys are the right size/shape for a std. 104 board anyway. Otherwise I would be all over this because I like the PBT feel and got my caps off a POS board so some of them are relegendable.

I just pulled the stabilizers out of the keys and used Costar stabilizers. bought 'em from WASD. no probs. didn't use space bar as needed a different length anyway. Did mod a MY space bar from a doubleshot POS board to work w/ MX/Costar but that required cutting a lot of stuff off and gluing on the posts from some sacrificial keys
