"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

graphite digilog?

Looks like it. BunnyLake, I'd be interested to hear more about that case. Are you using those massive brass feet that come with it? I was wondering whether the height and angle of the board is any different from the stock case.

Would that red Control key fit on a RealForce 87? I don't see why not, but I want to be certain.

I think the BIRD wrist rest is pretty nice actually. Leather surface is very smooth, the wood underneath looks great, it doesn't slip around with the foam and it's not big to the point where it's unusable and unproportional to the keyboard itself.

Okay so I posted a little while back my Leopold fc660c with custom key caps for a realforce topre board, they were red pbt key caps, blank, excluding the wasd which were dye-sub pbt. I just wanted to say I ordered and received a sleeved paracord cable from Mimic-cables.com and it is beautiful both in quality and color pattern. I will be posting pictures as soon as I can get my usb cable back to plug into the pc, I had some decent pictures but the quality of color seems a bit weak and faded than it should be. The color scheme I went with was the red/black pattern, and there was a back wait of almost a month until order to shipped.

Which through communicating with T.J.(mimics owner I assume, and the one that crafted the cable for me) was a really great seller, and took the time to respond to every question or inquiry that I had. It was overall top notch experience, and the fact that I ended up getting the cable in roughly two weeks, which was half the time I was told initially was just a great surprise, and he is very good at crafting sleeved cables of all types.

I highly recommending anyone that hasn't the time to learn how to sleeve your own usb cables, along with other mechanical keyboard mods, to check out his webpage, and since he is a member of this community you could always inquire about his work through the community. He has a decent amount of patience because I am awful waiting for a item that I have ordered and I am also highly inquisitive about keyboards, modding, and tools of the trade which again he showed a lot of tact responding to me as soon as he had time. This looks great with my topre keyboards, and he also makes cables for the Realforce users and owners in this thread. After I am able to edit this post with some pictures of the keyboard completed then I will link his site for anyone newer to this site and community so that they may check his work out if they are interested. Anyway overall I am very happy with the keyboard's final look. the red/ charcoal grey/black color scheme is classy yet stylish in my opinion and I hope you guys like the look and colors I went with. Until later then take care gh. :cool:

Yeah I was talking with vesper about the 55g realforce, and I can see myself really loving it. Because I absolutely love the leopold, but would definitely like to be tying with a little more resistance, and as far as the digilog cases I would have to agree. I am planning on first buying the realforce with 55g uniform resistance and then if loving it like I imagine I will replacing the housing with the metal cases because they be pricey but they look fantastic. Have you decided which color you would want for replace the case? I think I like the red but the grey slate color looks really nice too. I do not know if they have anymore colors than that since I have not researched it as much with out having the realforce it would just make me ubber depressed.

Yeah it has a really nice stylish but classic look, and I mean having those usb hubs on the side of the keyboard housing like that would definitely come in handy for someone like me who has a lot peripherals to connect. I cannot wait to save up and get a 55g version of the Realforce 87 keyboard. Anyways, it is saddening to think of how much time it might take to save up for this keyboard. Now, hopefully I can purchase one around March this upcoming year because it is just after my birthday at the end of February

I think the digilong cases have been discontinued on Ebay a red case is listed as "last one" for $199.99. Although they look pretty they are chunky and more than twice as thick than the stock case. The Realforce TKL has one of the lowest profiles that I become very fond of.

They seem to be no longer stocked. I've looked for them on ebay but no luck.

I think the super weight, color, and USB ports were the main reasons I wanted it. However, like you said, I also adore the low profile of the stock case, which is what ultimately saved me the $250 hee hee. Who knows, maybe in the future, better and more affordable aluminum cases will come out.

After seeing mistakemistake's pics I'm set on the Graphite case.

Vesper I feel like you are always giving me bad news man, I swear I am looking for key caps for my Leopold and you tell me they are discontinuing them lol. So, in a way you may be a messanger with bad news but at lesast because of you informing mew the way you did I now have some nice red custom key caps modded onto the leo. I just wish I got into buying the topre switch keyboards sooner then I did because I get worried that by the time I get enough to get the 55g uniform realforce keyboard there will be next to none for customization options available. OR, worse they stop making the 55g resistance version of the board. Gods why did my wifes pc have tp start kicking the bucket now of all times...It wll be months before I can purchase one for myself and that is just a scarey thought for me because I know that I would absolutely love that keyboard

LOL! Just bad timing/luck, bro :P Your timing on those red caps was clutch because they went out of stock right after you bought them.

I wouldn't worry about the 55g, but they do go out of stock every now and then, and they don't restock for another 4-6 months at a time. So there's that. Get it though, the 55g is god-tier thorpe. Best thorpe.

My PC recently is acting up too; the native/C: hdd is clicking every now and then and PC hangs up until it stops. I had to leave my PC off for 3 days while I backed up my externals on a larger external so I could clone my C: to the same size external... ugh....

That is bunch of crap I would not of wanted to do, and I figure right now with her pc until I can actually afford to build her a new rig all together, that I will buy her some more of her crappy 1333 ram so that she at least has 8 gbs, and then I will do some measurements of her case and see if I can fit a 760 in there. I am actually going to buy her an 8gig stick of 1600mhz so that when she gets the rest of her components and case that I can just transfer the ram over to the new rig along with the gpu. It will be alright because for her rig on what she has to replace including gpu it will only be about 650. She will be able to play any title of game she wants on 1080 and high to max settings, which is what she is worried about because of the new detail coming out from wow next expansion. Well, I hope your pc is up and running better than it was, and I have had to deal with too much stuff concerning hard drives between my girl's, mother's, and my own hard drive.

I definitely did get lucky on the red key caps for the RF and I am very very satisfied with the outcome of the overall aesthetics of this keyboard not to mention with the ergonomic feel it has while typing, like every key switch is just quality to my fingers.

My humble HHKB as it is today:

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

So many beautiful topre boards in here! Here's my HHKB.

I can't decide on what to do with the keycaps. Here is how I have it at the moment;

I tried this but I think it's a little busy;
