Hello from the UK!
« on: Tue, 06 April 2021, 16:13:25 »
Hi,
I'm Emma, I'm an engineering student in England.
I got my first mechanical keyboard a few years ago, a cheapo Otemu Blue board, but it lasted surprisingly well and it was a good gateway drug :)) I then got a Razer blackwidow (I know, so original) and finally got into keyboards enough to build a lovely board, based on the XD87 with some lubed Gat creamy yellows, and it's simply lovely :) The *totally* not godspeed ares keycaps I managed to get (I think they're marked as MARS colony 2035 on AliExpress) are super nice, and the planet themed novelties are so cute!

I do kinda miss the numpad though, so I think my next board is going to be a handwired extended numpad (I'm thinking 5*6/7 to get some extra shortcuts for maths functions and the like) I'm going to try and build it all from scratch, so I might make a few posts about that <3.

This is the aformentioned board :)

Getting into keyboards this much has been really fun, and I can't wait to keep learning and hopefully building some nice keebs <3

Hi Emma,
Welcome to the forum!
Nice keyboard  :) Have you tried to program a "numpad" as a layer on your current board? It might however not be as nice, if you are used to an ortholinear numpad, however you don't need to move your hands as far!
I use ortho keyboards, and it's quite popular to have a numpad on a layer!

Looks cool. Here's my Gherkin extended numpad attached.

My niece and a kangaroo (not mine, but Hi from Australia  ;) ).

Have you already tried to build your numpad from scratch?

Welcome to GH!

Is that board an extremely pale violet, or is it the lighting?

That's not a numpad, that's a keyboard xD Jk, looks cool though!
How would you say the ergonomics is compared to having a layer?

That's just the lighting, but now you say that light violet would be a very nice colour 🤔 it's just a white plastic case

ooh, what keycaps are on the main ortho board they're really nice. I was going to 3d print a case for it but I still need to get around to modelling it all out, I'm also going to waterjet out a plate to make it a 100% home job  :D
