Title: Hello from Germany!
Post by: AstraRotlicht on Fri, 20 March 2020, 05:13:47
Hey Guys!
I am using mech. keyboard for a pretty long time now but new saw this a hobby. I started 4-5 years back with a Steelseries 6gv2 with mx black switches. I liked it but the black switches felt a bit heavy for writing my bachelor thesis, so I got a cheap mech keyboard from amazon a year a ago. It has outemu browns. The switches itself are decent but not very tactile. They main problem with this keyboard is the sound. Its pretty load and annoying after a short amount of time. Also the straight ANSI Layout is not something I can get used to. So I started lurking around r/mk to find a DIY Kit thats fitting for me, but after a year I still havent found something. So here I am still searching for DIY kit.

Greetings!

"Hallo" from Germany, too.
If you like something similar to blacks, but lighter and quieter, silent reds seem to be the obvious choice.  Or something smoother like Healios/Sakurios/Rosélios.
It sounded a bit "over the top" to me not long ago, but if you will build a keyboard yourself, I strongly recommend lubing the switches. Not just to make them smoother, but also to prevent any creaking sound, that is somethings created by the spring rubbing against the pin, that holds it in place - even on expensive switches.
