Hello,
I got my ozone radon 5k mouse today and immediately took it apart to mod into a logitech marble mouse.

A few hours later, the mod was complete, but I have a problem: Movement is jerky due to the red and black pattern on the logitech ball. When I use another surface, such as a piece of cloth within the cavity, movement is smooth.

Other minor issue: as expected, the x axis is inverted. I am using a small program called sakasa.exe to invert the axis again to make things usable. Not an immediate issue, but it would be nice to be able to do in firmware, will wait on ozone for their response.

I'm pretty sure there's a variant of the standard logitech marble mouse with a solid red ball. My friend has one.

You can also get a sphere of basically any size from ebay. I recommend the steel ball mill balls.

Hmm, it looks like the kensington orbit ball is 40.4mm, which is pretty close to the 40.0mm that the logitech marble has. Maybe I can try a replacement from that.

you could just get a M570 and use its ball if its the same size.

That actually gave me an idea about modding one of my DT225s... I could buy some el cheapo logitech laser mouse and put its internals upside down under the ball inside trackball, ditch out original PCB and just wire up switches to the logitech PCB. That would be best of both worlds. Superior DT225 bearings with modern laser sensor of logitech mouse.

I acquired an old serial mechanical kensington orbit mouse, but the transparent ball did not work with the PLN2032 sensor.

BTW the sakasa mouse program is brilliant - I didn't think it would work in Windows 7 x64 but it does! On the other hand - I haven't tested it in games yet. Also, the scroll wheel isn't reversed. Maybe I can still reverse it... (Yep I can with the CST software)

This is awesome! Do you use this with first person shooters?
How is it performing? Did you get a reply from Ozone?

I have been thinking of buying a cheap 2000 or 2400dpi mouse from ebay (e.g. ThunderTank Sidewinder) to replace the marble's guts. I like to use it with a joystick for FPS games like a Panther XL setup.

How did you remove the red from the ball?

Did you try a ping pong ball?

There are also some stones and fossil wood balls on ebay but I don't know if t they are too heavy or uneven...

A ping pong ball is about the right size, but the weight and surface texture are all wrong. I sanded the original ball down to get through the paint. I was considering one of those polished stone balls, but did not get one to try. Ozone has been unresponsive.

I have since rotated the sensor to invert the Y axis instead of the X axis, so I can play first-person games by inverting the Y axis again. This is only needed on games which use directinput mouse control.

Do you use a joystick or a keyboard when playing FPS with the custom Marble?
You don't have an accuracy problem when using the mouse button as fire button?
I used to use a marble with FPS games but I had the fire button set to a keyboard key...
Its hard for me to click the button with the thumb and not move the ball (which messes up my aim)...

I know I am reviving a dead thread, but google brought me here.

I was going to try and do a similar mod to my thumb trackman with a Redragon Mammoth for 16400 dpi. It seems like I keep the internals of the high dpi mouse and put them inside the trackman, then point the laser at the trackball, which should be painted, and then invert one of the axises.

Anyone have any tips?

haven't looked into that one, but often the super high dpi mice are doing interpolation themselves, kind of ****ty

used existing buttons wired to the new board.

before ripping apart the new mouse, test the ball under the sensor. don't buy it if it doesnt pick up. i had to sand my ball with really fine sandpaper and it still kind of felt crappy after that. The mod itself should be easy.

you can use sakasamouse to invert in software. for first-person games with direct mouse input, you may have to use the y axis inversion option.

do not invert accross x axis.

Find out what sensor it is using because that's all that really matters.

Do you think an optical sensor would have the same issues as the laser one in reading the ball with the black dots on it?

Dunno, should be easy to test though. put ball under fully assembled and working mouse, see if it tracks the ball as you rotate it.
