What are these keycaps - G81-8000LPBGB/05
« on: Fri, 12 July 2013, 11:26:29 »
Hi all.

I am looking at picking up this keyboard for its keycaps, but I am only interested if they are doubleshot (which I don't think they are) or Dye Sub.

Can one of you wiser ones identify from the following pictures.

I don't want to be left with a pad printed cherry MY keyboard  :))

Many thanks for your help, if you could explain how you can tell that would be cool as well.
Daily drivers: Filco w/ browns @ home and work (w/ o-rings), Home coding: 1987 IBM Model M + other random keyboarding goodies.

They're lasered. I can tell this because the legends aren't as clear as dyesub/doubleshot.

Also, the keys will be thinner than Cherry doubleshot/dyesub keys.

Yeah, I wouldn't go for them. For doubleshot/dyesubs you want to look for G80-3000, G81-3000 and G80-1000 variants.

Cherry keyboard model numbers explained.  First letter of L after model number = lasered keycaps

The old lasered PBT are much nicer and thick, which it looks like those are. The rounded font and having pause and break front printed is a good indicator for thick old style PBT, which also means the larger keys won't have those funny stab clips. If the price is good they are not a bad buy, especially if you catch some in new condition since they are prime for dying with.

That's not in the product code, just me having an eye for those details with Cherry stuff.
