Hello.

I started using a mechanical keyboard in High School (around 15 years ago) when I heard about Model M's through a friend.

A PS/2 model M has been my primary keyboard until about 5 years ago I bought my first cherry switch based board.

I decided I wanted to improve my touch typing about 6 months ago so I decided to finally get blank keycaps so I couldn't cheat anymore. I searched reddit for keyboard subs and naturally found this place shortly there after.

Not too long after joining I bought a ErgoDox with blues off of a member on here and it is now my primary board. I've also ordered a poker with clears off massdrop that may show up sometime.

Now that that is out of the way, here are some pics of a project i've been toying with.
I found an IBM ActionWriter typewriter at a church yard sale for $3. I touched it and new it was essentially a ~60%-ish buckling spring keyboard wrapped in a typewriter. The yard sale was raising money for a mission to Nigeria and it being shortly after those girls went missing this atheist paid $5 for a $3 typewriter.

I had a teensy laying from the PS3's vulnerability days so I immediately started playing. After a series of ordering the wrong thing off digikey I finally got connectors that fit the membrane connectors. I removed the typewriter parts and cut the case in half and got the teensy in there

I swapped a few caps from my model M(that is now blank) and captured the matrix using the humble hacker code.

Next step is to teach myself how to work with plastic and/or bondo to make a normal looking 'back' to this thing.
Best part of this project is the built in carry handle:

Oh yea; I also bolt modded it while I had it apart.
anywho, Hello all

Welcome to Geekhack!

A very interesting project :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
