Advice on Lubing my MiniTouch SIIG/Monterey K110
« on: Fri, 09 February 2018, 21:30:23 »
Hello! I recently acquired a MiniTouch SIIG with Monterey Blue switches from my local electronics recycling center, (for free!!) and besides being slightly yellowed and dirty when I first got it it's in great shape especially after I cleaned it up. However, like with most ALPS-based switches, they seemed to not like the dirt much and feel slightly scratchy. I should mention it's really not too bad, in fact it's the keyboard I am typing on right now and loving it, but I'd love to have this thing performing at its best. Pictures are attached :) Thanks!

These switches are factory-lubricated and are really hard to put together after you've taken them apart. Do you really want to re-lube them? xD
Check my keyboard video reviews:

I would agree just not to lube them. Remember if you **** up 1 switch by putting it back together you have to find a replacement. <- PSA

Well darn. Good thing this thing wasn't in worse condition when I got it, thanks for the words of wisdom :).

Yeah, that is exactly why I just picked myself up a whole set of 'new' SMK second gen switches. These keyboards are getting difficult to find with monterey switches, and I don't even want to fathom cleaning one up if it isn't in the best condition D: When I tried reassembling some AK-CN2 switches, I ruined 2 out 4 switches trying to put them back together, and I hear these are just as troublesome.
