Repair inside of mini-USB connector on board
« on: Tue, 06 October 2020, 11:46:59 »
Hey guys,
I've got an HB85 with a spotty connection and after taking it apart and looking at everything I think it's related to the mini-USB connector. It looks like some of the internal connectors are depressed/not visible. Any way to make this better? With the rarity of HB85 boards I don't trust my limited soldering/desoldering skills to take off the connector and put on a new one. My skills are limited to soldering on switches pretty much...253091-0

Usually it is easier to replace the piece than fixing it. Maybe the seller can suply you a new one

you can try to readjust the pins. looks like the center one is the culprit.
try a thin sewing needle, get the needle under the wire in the hole and LIGHTLY push down, making the other end of the needle push up (using the plastic housing as the fulcrum). go very gently, these wires/pins are thin, shouldn't take much to nudge it back into place. you want it just visible on the top side (which is where the two items connect, it's just a pressure contact). you should be able to see the contacts on the top like you do on the left most 2 pins and the far right pin.

here's some pictures of one that i have.

yes, you probably will have to get it replaced eventually, either yourself or maybe a friend/neighbor if you're not confident.
