there are downsides, but so far so good.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

I've had to watch a number of videos for a class today. I decided to work on cleaning a rusted knife that belonged to my grandfather.

Cool knife. I love old stuff from my grandparents. I think I get more nostalgic as I get older.

I agree. It is both nostalgic and sentimental. I have a number of axes and a pocket knife or two to refurbish now.

Nice work :D

I'm wondering..are your stitch holes lasered, or Dremeled?  I think you've done beautiful even stitching, so I'm wondering, cause there's clearly some spacing there that's pretty wide even for that thread thickness.

Also I gotta say that hard 90 degree corner on the top edge concerns me, like you could edge that a little better for durability.. I know you said you had an edge beveller tool somewhere.. but personally I am still learning how amazingly perfect a leather edge can be when you put the full time and effort in to finishing it.  Currently I am using a curve chisel set for corners, Chinese ones off ebay so not too costly, but some quick knife cuts and sanding would work nicely too and I use this too a lot.

Imo I would seriously consider a Japanese edge beveller like http://goodsjapan.com/kyoshin-elle-leathercraft-deluxe-leather-edge-beveller--sharpener-08mm-edger-1-419-p.asp for the weight of leather you work in.  Goods Japan is a good dude, I order from him all the time.  It's really useful to have the sharpening kit too that comes with it,

Oh, I'm awful at doing my own stitching. I used the laser cutter for everything. It dramatically decreases the amount of time I would have spent otherwise. I made a brush in Illustrator for the stitch holes.

Are you referring to the holes that are cut into the leather for the strap? In this case I'm not overly concerned. I have no intention of using the knife. I already have a handful of sheath knives for activities like camping. This one has too much sentimental value to lose in the woods.

You're leather work is incredible. I think your edges look fantastic. My edge beveller is somewhere. I'm hesitant to buy a new one, even a inexpensive Chinese one, because as soon as I do I'll find my own. I really want to get into stains in the near future.

If I end up giving hope of ever finding mine I'd definitely want to go with something quality. I'll have to keep that one in mind.

One of my near future projects is making a holster for my .357. I found the holster pictured in a bunch of boxes. Someone cut a portion of the holster off. It was also made for a revolver with a longer barrel. I like the design though, so I'm going to use it as a template. Someday I want to make a leather holster for all of my handguns. I just wish I had that much time.

This is true. I put my cup down, half full and getting watered down with melting ice. Talk for a while reach over, and my cup is full with a fresh drink. Hmm, what kind of witchcraft is this??

We had a 3D/4D scan at 27 weeks on Wednesday night. Although they look extremely freaky, it was awesome. The actual DVD of it we got looks a less lot freaky than the stills.

It was a surreal experience. She definitely has her Mum's and sisters nose. Her legs are measuring at 29 weeks so she's gonna be a long pod like her Daddy no doubt. :D

Lol that story about getting those shades

Nothing much goes on around here.. only thing that has really happened since then was his cousins' birthday party.. she had been such a brat lately that one of her aunts gave her a box of rocks as a present (had a real present hidden in the other room).. She was so mad, but Bowser thought it looked cool, so asked if he could play with the rocks. After about 5 minutes she noticed he was having a lot of fun playing with the rocks so she took them back :p

He is 6, she just turned 7.

I took a break from homework for university to work on another one of my many restoration projects. Unlike the knife I showed earlier I fully intend to make use of this. I already have a good wood axe at home but I need something for reenacting.

I found it like this with the edges taped.

Too much rust.

This is what the axe head looked like after bathing in vinegar while I was at class. This is the approach I'll be going with for future projects.

I decided to give it a light stain.

I'm going to take it to someone who does professional blade sharpening to see if they can salvage the axe head. If it was any other axe head I'd toss it but this one has sentimental value.

Cool!  I like the embossing on the head as well.

Went to a concert Sunday night.   ^-^

Holy hell, Ben Miller Band is amazing!

Electric washboard into some effects pedals.

ZZ Top was alright too.  ;)

Seriously though, ZZ Top was really great.  They spotted a fan that had hauled his record collection to the show, called him on stage, and signed a few of them in the middle of the show.   :)

Sooo exciting dude. Greatest adventure of life is having kids. And I've had a lot of adventure to compare it to.

+1 on what Swill said. Get your sleep now!

I've been taking selfies with my gf's mad cat. This is my first picture of me on GH. So be gentle.

Also I went to an underground pub with a really strange interior...

Food was good though.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Christmas 2009, wearing the scarf my sister knit me.  One of the last pictures I think that was ever taken with my family's cat.  The cat, Katie, had been with us since 1986 and would live until the summer of 2011.  Coming up on 4 years without ma kitty  :'(

Awwww, what a great pic Binge.  As one cat lover to another, I'm so sorry for your loss.  I recently went through the death of a pet(my dog in this case), and know how hard it can be, there's not a day that goes by where I don't think about her.  I'm sure you have lots of good memories to help ease the pain. :)
