Saw this switch on a site and was wondering what type it was:

From this board (NEC PTOS):

…but that switch isn't there.

The keyboard looks like NEC A-VX N8606 (classified as Topre in DT wiki) and a bunch of other PTOS keyboards.

So I did some more looking around it looks like the model is 'NEC CMQ-6D1L' and the switch is a rare NEC branded switch (wiki entry). They apparently came in a couple versions.

From translating some of the original Japanese it said that the early to mid versions of the NEC PTOS used the NEC switches while the latter model they owned (PC-9801-114) featured yellow ALPs switches:

Clearly these boards came with different switches over the years as Topre was also used for some models.

Sadly no higher res photos available. Wish Deskthority's wiki switch list page had thumbnails to browse through.

Those look very much like a variant on the NEC blue oval switches.

The blue ones popup from time to time in H4100E and similar keyboards.  They are clicky, although curiously the click happens after actuation, so with a little care it is possible to type silently on the blue switches.

I wonder if the white ones are, perhaps, silent versions of the blue ones.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Where the heck do I get space bars, besides signature plastics?  I'm mostay looking for 6.25 pbt, and nothing too fancy or expensive. But thick would be nice.

NEVERMIND, I'll just get them from SP, they have lots of options for a good price.

Interesting, so there are blue versions of the switches as well. Curious!

What are the differences between AEKi and AEKii?

Are the keycaps completely interchangeable between the two? I'm looking to get some orange ALPS and solder them into an AEKii, and use the AEKi caps.

Huh?

The AEK2 caps are considered by some people to be marginally better, but there is very little difference.

The orange Alps are the best, but there is so little difference in the cases that it does not seem to matter.
Both have Apple style details and ADB connections. Why bother?

“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

Hello, in the search of a mechanicall keyboard i came across an OLIVETTI.

MODEL : ANK 60 -105       RT4958TWFR

I look several time on the wiki and google, find only one thread talking about a rt4958twfr but was not an olivetti, the guy talking about seems to say that it is mechanical.

But i find literaly nothing Oo

Could somebody say me what type of switch or if the keyboard is worth the time ?

Thanx Eugene.

Apparently cant use the "balise" to include the pic, seems weird, keyobard has the logo on the right with a black strip, still searching on the net about something similar.

Wanted to add a question, it seems that you can buy some "weird" starwars / or colored key with some face on it ?
Are they some collectible thing like pokemon cards or does it have an other use i dont know ?

Thx

Ideally we'd have a top down picture, picture of the bottom, and a picture with a keycap pulled. Honestly have zero clue with the information you've given and that picture.

@CPTBadAss

I dont want to quote / requote and requote a message.

I found a ank 61 105 on ebay italia, seems that the ank 60 105  it was not a meca, so dropt it.

Found a model M on local craiglist but the seller wont sell it without the computer.

And with all of that people are on vacation and just email you, i'am in vacation, dont care, resend on end of month.

So yeah the hunt continue :) So excited.

Thx for the answer.

If I understand Soarer's post correctly, the columns (Y axis or function row to spacebar) are strobe lines. The rows (X axis or capslock to backspace) are sense lines.

Anywhere I can buy a center stem black spacebar cherry profile 6.25 today?

Don't think anyone stocks actual Cherry/GMK spacebars now. When there was the GMK spacebar random buy last year, there were a few black and whites. You could try putting up a classifieds to get one of those.

If you're looking for Cherry profile, you should be able to pickup DCS spacebars from SP.

Is anyone here familiar with the KBP V80 and how many screws you need to remove to take it apart? I can feel SOMETHING under the label but I don't want to destroy the label just to find that I didn't need to, and I assume there are others under the rubber pads but I haven't looked yet.

In case it makes a difference, mine is the Matias version.

Was there a special 1.5u sized keycap that is related to Small Fry or something? Does anyone have a photo or more info about it?

I vaguely recall that it was doubleshot, black base, cyan legends. Very neat cap.

Friends and Family cap. Smallfry and inlikeflynn had caps made by SP. They wanted to send them out to GHers randomly to remind them that Geekhack is more than keyboards.

Here's a picture from rkinze from the 2013 Keycon in Chicago when Smallfry's family came and mkawa handed them out.

So I just handwired (first time) an external numpad, put in a teensy, burned the firmware following matt3os guide and am now experiencing random inputs of 3 certain characters on my numpad. (fast enough to not allow any other input)
I checked the source code twice and couldn't find any visible shorts.. so what could the problem be? I don't know what to do anymore.  :-X

So case / board ( pcb ) / switch / plate / caps ?

Or does it have an other denomination ?

Thanks

IMSTO put up some BSP sets in his store. I'm interested in the Peacock set, but never having a BSP set in my hands before, here's my question: BSP doesn't make spacebars, but I have a PBT spacebar from a Cherry dyesub set, would it fit the BSP color?

Thank you. This was correct. I thought there would have been some deviously hidden under the pads or the label, like I've seen some other keyboards do.

I know about the funding to make the SP Cherry legend replica, but I was wondering, who exactly designed the vector files, and owns the rights to use those moulds?
Hashbaz has the vectors (and also owns the DCS Cherry legends, I believe). There was a lot of discussion (drama) about the Cherry legends in the Pulse IC.

I wouldn't really consider "classic" to be either of those, they are both modern mechanical keyboards. Gaming is just a moniker to sell more keyboards, you won't notice a difference between (most) mechanical keyboards as most of them have at least 6KRO (USB) and even higher than that. The chances that you will ever get ghosting in a mechanical keyboard is slim since each switch is separate, though on older keyboards you may have some issues (old terminal boards from the 80s for example). Any modern board won't really have that problem unless the company that made it just completely cheaped out on it (those generic keyboards you can find on eBay for $30 for example). Average human response time is around 250ms so as long as the keyboard is faster than that there is absolutely no reason to get one that is 10ms response over one that is 20ms response for example.
I proxy anything including keyboards (キーボード / 鍵盤), from both Japan (日本) and China (中國). For more information, you may visit my dedicated webpage here: https://www.keyboards.es/proxying.html

Keyboard matrix (including ghosting) explained.

For example, my TypeMatrix ghosts on a certain keyboard combination. Most keyboards block though.

Does the model number of Model Ms/SSKs change depending on year?
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Anyone know if puple LEDs with no (or very minimal) light outside of the visible spectrum (UV) exist somewhere? All that I've found are Purple+UV.

AFAIK the model numbers denote the legend configuration and type of interface (PS/2 or terminal), not the date the board was made.

I have looked high and low and cannot find any.  And at least for cheap LED's, purple and uv seem to be used interchangeably since they are close on the spectrum. Chinese say "差不多".  I don't agree

I also do not think there are purple LEDs which aren't UV LEDs.
