Title: Recommend a wrist rest for a Thumb ball?
Post by: typo on Sat, 12 October 2019, 10:22:22
Right now the best thing I have found thus far is one of the bean bag ones. It is wider. However it puts some pressure on my wrist. I do not care for that. I would be interested in anything you folks might have to point out to me? Thank you

The best ones i've had is no longer made and i haven't been able to find an equal.
Back in the day.... 3m had a gel wrist rest (keyboard & mouse size) that were covered in a soft fabric (spandex like material) and SUPER NICE. The top was a soft/gummy gel covered in the fabric, the bottom was probably a stiff silicone or smooth rubber moulded bottom.
- I had a grey belkin one that was close but didn't last long.
- Just picked up the goldtouch ergonomic gel wrist rests - these are close as well but a lot stiffer than what the 3m ones were.

Best suggestion would be to go to multiple stores that carry electronics & touch & poke the ones they have and try to find one you like. It's hard to tell how something feels by looking at product page on you computer.

I've had some of Grifiti's offerings as well. Now these are all foam based ones, but still very nice. They have various thicknesses and colors. You could easily cut them to shape as well. They are probably more in tune with our mechanical keyboard niche then a lot of other companies as they even have rests for the ergodox style boards.

Thank you for responding. I had a few of those 3M's. Those were nice indeed. After years they started to "ooze". The reason I am using the "bean bag" one with the Thumb ball is because it is wider. There is a memory foam one I like the feel of but it is pretty skinny. I fear it may not really be suited to usage with a Thumb ball. You will notice that the Thumb balls that come with rests, the rests are quite large. You position your hand stationary of course and much different than a mouse. Still, I think I will try this memory foam one since it is only $8.

I cannot stand the "bean bag" for a lot of reasons. I am going to get the memory foam right now. The manager agreed to give it to me for $4  if I promise I will not return it. Which is a completely fair deal to me. That is he price of a large Fry at McDonald;s. I simply cannot find anything else anyways. The picking of these things where you can actually try them first is dwindling by the day. For whatever reason I do not know. It is not like people have stopped using mice. In fact, as you are aware many people plug a mouse into their laptops too.

While not technically a wrist rest, have you considered a forearm support such as the excellent product lines offered by Ergo-Rest ( https://www.ergorest.fi/en/products/ )? Once installed and adjusted correctly, your arm rests on a curved pad that follows your movements within a single horizontal plane of movement. I have found them (I use one for each arm) to be quite useful for long periods of typing/mousing at my desk when not using my chair-mounted keyboard.  They could be used in a portable setting as long as you have access to a table with a ledge to allow mounting (friction fit, level of friction adjustable by rotating a part of the mounting assembly).  Given the content of some of your past posts, I suspect cost to be of minimal to no concern and the product itself to be well worth your consideration.

Sorry for late reply. I am actually already using those right now! In fact that is what I rest all of my "weight" on as it should be. I have had the arms removed from my Embody chair. I only work in the same spot every single day and I own the office so it is fine to stay that way. With all he Display supports, keyboard-mouse trays, power-sit-stand, table...It looks like a Sci-FI movie in here! It works for me! I just use a wrist rest with a Thumb ball due to the "tenting" of it. To put my hand at the same height. I am not putting any pressure on it. Well, not very much at all. It turns out that the beanbag was the best after all. I was just using the wrong beanbag. I pulled out one of my Imak's I have not been using in a long time and that fit the bill perfectly. Consider this taken care of! For myself at least. Thank you

I will agree there are gals from 3m that are nice but I use a desk mat and a lower mouse tenting which makes it comfy
