What is your favorite modified switch?
« on: Sat, 30 July 2016, 17:24:55 »
Happy Weekend everybody :)

a) What switches have you tried?

b) What is your favorite modified switch?

Personally...

I've tried:
Stock: Cherry MX: Clear, Blue, Red, HHKB
Modded: Lubed Zealios 65g, Lubed Zealios 62g, Ergoclear 62g, 65g, 68g, 78g

Favorite:
Hands down, 62g Ergoclear with SPRiTs, GPL105/205 mix.
Lubed Zealios with 62g SPRiT are quite nice but a bit too light for me.

I just received some Gateron Blues and Blacks. I really want to replicate 62g Cherry Ergoclears, but I am lost as to what spring to use. I'm thinking 68g might actually fit the bill moreso than 65g... I'll have to get a spare plate and test it out.

I've tried cherry blue that came with a ducky shine 5 that I had, cherry red in a 60% I built, cherry brown in the CM Rapid-I, outemu blue in the jellycomb numpad. Just built another 60% with gateron clears that has been lubed and stickered (will post a build thread soon) which so far is my favourite, it's the smoothest switch I've used so far.

Waiting for a desoldering station to de-switch the Rapid-I and put in gateron reds I've got off Massdrop, which I will also lube and sticker. Have parts to build another 60% with gateron clears again.

All this since my first mech board, the shine 5 March this year lol.

I wanted to try out the zealios (ordered then cancelled) but I prefer linear switches, at the moment anyway.

I'll keep it to Topre for my part:
  • Realforce 87u 55g
  • HHKB JP (Silenced/lubed)
  • HHKB BT
Both HHKBs absolutely blow the Realforce out of the water. The plastic plate is a lot softer, and suited the Topre switch. However I'm having a harder chance deciding which I prefer HHKB wise. I love the sound and the feeling of the BT, but the JP was also great.

I've also been using linear 62g (lubed/stickered), it's nice but not sure if it is better than any HHKB.

Which spring did you prefer in Gaterons?

I really want to replicate Cherry MX 62g Lubed but within a Gateron switch. 62g Is far lighter. I wish I could find a crappy throw away keyboard plate somewhere so I could test these.

So far I like Topre 55g, Orange Alps, and Vintage Blacks, though for the last one I plan on putting 68g springs.
