If there is a second round, I'm going to explode with joy. $220 for a viper is an insta buy. Sad I missed this in the first place.

Pretty sure there's one or two Vipers for sale in classified's right now.  Two silver and a black one but they're already built.
Thanks dude, ya I think I looked at Glitched's classified & another one, but am looking for an unassembled kit because well, monies  :'(

Yeah, the unassembled bit is tricky.  You could always wait for the second run/V2 of these. ^___^

I think 2nd run will be like the HHKB where the bottom row isn't centered

I'd be tempted to get a second Viper if there's a second run and anodize it some crazy color.

Dunno.  I'd bring it to my friend whose shop builds cars for SEMA and such.  I figure I throw it at him, tell him what I want, and see what comes of it.  Worst comes to worst, I still get it anodized something different.  Maybe build a board that isn't just black and gray for once (purple GON doesn't count).

Yeah, this is something I'm considering if Octagon 2 happens as I'm starting to hear about, at least from one thread. I do hope the Octagon's second revision doesn't happen too soon. I can't pass up that.

But yes, Duck brothers and sisters, I too plan on having my Duck reanodized some crazy color. I want to go with an electric blue or pink. :D A blue and red pair of Octagons would be a nice set to have.

Now, I can't deny that these are sexy boards. They definitely are, but the ideal I have with 60% boards is that they should be light and portable. Now obviously, that's just a personal thing for me, but it is a reason why I'm not so into the Viper and Eagles. They are way cool though and the pseudo HHKB look of the Viper is ace.

A lime green Viper would be sweet though. Slap some Dragonfruit on that if the IC ever turns into a GB, and :thumb: forever.

But I want to try the best that cherry can offer for me (Zeals purple switches it looks like) whilst keeping the scrumptious layout.  :(

And if cherry mx really isn't for me, then I can sell it.  :)

I'm not sure when we'll see another Viper round though. I think first there will be another Lightsaver round after Orion V2.

Finally getting to putting together my Eagle today!

Just one question: how do you layout the switches in the plate for 7x spacebar? Do you just skip the cutout between Ctrl and Alt? Does anyone have a pic of their board in this layout without the keycaps on?

Also, the only soldering required would be the switches for this PCB, correct?

Thanks in advance :D

Use the 'inner' holes for a 7u layout. For instance, left control has 2 ways to mount it, use the holes closest to the spacebar. The same way for modkeys on the rightside of the spacebar. Just pop in some switches and give it a try (without soldering). Also check the caps lock key, because you can mount it two ways as well.

If you don't use LEDs, the switches are the only parts that require soldering.

I'll do a dry run before soldering and post to see if it's correct

If I wanted to add LEDs to the switches, would I have to solder resistors or just the LEDs themselves?

Thanks again :D

Ok cool.

I finished the sticker and lube process.  Looks like this so far:

So keep the bottom left empty for 7x layout?

You can't really tell without a PCB, but I've circled the right holes for 7u layout (although this is the Viper PCB, the holes are the same. If you install switches in those places, you'll see where to put Ctrl).

I usually just put some caps on the switches in question and pop the switches in.  If anything is off, you'll notice it real quick.

Ok, that makes sense. Guess I'll wait for my winkeyless set to come from Ivan's GB before I finally solder it. Don't want to have to redo this later to change the layout  :p

If someone has an Eagle PCB they wouldn't mind letting go of, please PM me!

I'm not debating this, totally reasonable, but it happens all the time. Will it be enforced across the board now?

I've made comments in every GB thread I've seen it in over the last few weeks.  I will not be out policing looking for it (I don't do that anyway), but if I see it I make a point to say something.  If you do see it, feel free to report it.  In the grand scheme of things it's one of the lesser important rules (especially if the person is able to make a Classifieds post and therefore isn't trying to dodge that rule), but it's so easy to just give a reminder that I do make a point to do so.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one that is just now getting around to building up their board. I'm happy that I'm in good company.  ;D

I built up the Viper last night and using it a little bit today but I could use some help getting oriented. For those of you that have been using your board for up to a year now, I'm hoping you can help me out.

In the default layout...
   1. Where are the arrow keys?
   2. How do you turn off the side LEDs?

I'm on a Mac but I've been playing with Duck's Firmware Program on a Remote Desktop and I don't see those options in the default keymap.

Question For Mac Users
------------------------------------
I've been away for most of this year and forgotten a lot while I was at it. LOL! Anyway, what tool are you guys using to load the hex file to your Viper? tjweir was kind enough to post the HHKB layout on his GitHub and I might just quickly switch to that to kick things off.

Thanks in advance!

1) Default won't have arrow keys I believe. I mapped my arrow keys fn layer 1 to wasd and hjkl
2) LED controls. Forgot what it is in default but I did map mine to fn layer 2

Thanks adrl for the reply, that helps nudge me in the right direction.

If anyone else has any input, I'm all ears.

Just received my Eagle today, plugged it in, and the LED turns on, all of them. How do I turn them off?

The LED on the caps lock is also blinking once.

I'm on a Mac right now, is there any way I can get access to the duck firmware program or is it windows only?

Unfortunately, I cannot help when it comes to Mac advice, as I've always used Windows. Maybe a virtual machine could allow you to flash the firmware.

The single blink on the Caps Lock LED means you are currently in layer one of the keyboard layout.

Depending on the previous owner, there might be an LED control key somewhere on the board, but finding it might be tricky if not impossible. LED control disables and enables the LEDs (Caps Lock LED is always on so it can show your layer selection).

I'm not sure if any of the 02D software runs on Mac.

EDIT: Lol, we have the exact same post count. :)

I'm on my windows machine now and already downloaded the o2d software.

Can you guide me in maybe restoring it to default?

What is your keyboard layout like, a 7u bottom row and short right shift, or what?

In the 02D program, you should be able to select new > Duck Eagle/Viper and it should load the default layout. Be warned that the wrong firmware version can sometimes cause the flashing not to work properly, but don't worry, this can be easily fixed if so. There is no LED control by default from what I know. Just make a key in some other layer LED control, and then you will be able to disable the LEDs.

Edit: FN Layer 3 has LED control bound to the Caps Lock position.

Correct. Short right shift and fn button next to it.

I see the option to choose new > o2d viper eagle custom 1.x. Loaded it then do firmware upload?

Then it says dfu programmer not found.

****, I forgot about all the dfu programmer stuff. I'll have to remember how I did that. Whizzard's how to guide on his Octagon build page (his own webpage) was very helpful.
