Stainless plates being cut
« on: Sat, 19 January 2013, 00:00:25 »
Someone requested plates to be made. He gave me the dwg files on Thursday night. I picked up the plates at 2:30pm today, snapped a few pics and talked to the operator for a bit. These stainless plates run at ~200 inches per minute. In comparison, 1/2" aluminum runs at 4 IPM and "air cutting" 1/16" aluminum (bad edge quality) can go up to 600 IPM.

You can also see another previous keyboard plate just above where these two were cut.

My laser guy also just got in a 6 figure metal forming machine in his shop that is 1 1/2 stories tall.

Sweet, love watching laser cutters. Waterjets look way cooler though.

Wish I had access to these goodies...

Had access to a laser machine at school when I was doing graphics. I used to think that was cool, now I've seen this. Do want.

Beast, if he got a metal forming machine, does that mean now he can make plates with the "lip bend" for Filcos and their cases?

I got some before he changed to stainless, it's 1/4" aluminum:

I'll ask next time I order something from him. But I'd also need to know where the bend is since I don't have a Filco. Would a Rosewill be the same?

I'm pretty sure the bend is in the same place for the Rosewill as the Filco. Looks the same to me just eyeballing it. I don't have calipers or anything.
