Keyboard development is tough. It's not as simple as you think.
One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten, Eleven, Twelve, Thirteen, Fourteen, Fifteen, Sixteen, Seventeen, Eighteen, Nineteen, Twenty... Yeah that seems about right.

trays can be easily made single piece for many layouts, also pretty easy to assemble, no need for plates, simple way to mount for companies who don't really need to think more about it nor do most customers care.

this is a reply i needed. but i still dont like the no variety in bigger brand keyboards: kalih-everywhere, tray-also everywhere, lube-what is it?, hot swap-rare or on very expensive keyboards with bad design, alu case-plate is the best they can do, polycarb,fr4,brass plate-what about normal alu but marketed as somethijng special, clickbars- i have only seen one keyboard with this, rgb-always,good software?-no they wil not notice an app that will take 99% of their cpu and memory but without it their keyboards won't work.over marketed 8k polling rate no one needs etc.

Such is a dilemna, but the hobby is quite niche. Very few people really care about or can feel mounts and for mass mainstream production, it just doesn't make the most sense for big companies to do. Big software to manage all the RGB or flashy features it needs. Tray mounts also have the advantage of being able to have very thin to no bezels at all, simpler case design, USB doesn't need a longer board etc.

:-\ After being in the hobby for some time, I can feel the difference between mounts, but I find myself to really not care or have a preference for any of them, much less than my preference for looks, keycaps, and recently smoothness. Cheap RGB is the way of the prebuilt game
