sprit, thanks for sharing your experience on plates.
My 1.2mm FR-4 plate worked well without problem in assembly process and on typing so far. Glad :D
Comparing to steel plate with orange switches I can't feel significant difference except for switch property, but it may be because I have no good sensitivity on finger tips.

My space bar needs retrobrite too!

Hi Hasu, may you'll find this helpful. Hydrogen peroxide is a bit fiddly, but there are certain hair products with basically the same active ingredients as retrobrite that you can try and find. I used this one here: http://www.superdrug.com/B-Blonde/Jerome-Russell-B-Blonde-Cream-Peroxide-40-Vol-12%25-Lightner/p/42293

But obviously I don't know if this brand is specific to the UK or not, I imagine there must be similar products in Japan.

It comes in a convenient gel form, saves the effort of trying to mix it yourself, give it a go!

Yeah, DIY cutting pate is very time consumig and makes an old keyboard victim. You were really lucky with dremel I did that ridiculously with hand saw :D

As a followup, I also chopped up a space invader plate and this time it was much(MUCH) faster. Used dremel 409 disks, gotta replace them pretty often but if you do it right you can get maybe 5-7" of cut per disk. Still sucks, but kind of fun at the same time. Make sure you use eye protection though, the disks shatter easily.

my build is mostly done, lots of problems that I solved with bad solutions, so it is hardly ideal... but this was a learning experience for next time anyhow

1) I didn't pay attention to the pcb, so I cut a plate that wasn't compatible. I filed down the mistake to fix it, but the spacebar is now .25 shorter than would make sense.

2) I cut the plate using swillkb, and their ISO enters had center-mounts, which alps typically do not have. the AEK ISO Enter key 'fits', with some space to the left of it unused.

3) another swillkb thing, the wire clips with alps stabilisers do not match the wire sizes, so I'll have to bend my own wires.

ignore the ugly caps, I'm currently using 4 different keysets with it just to fill it up (unless I use a mix of AEK ISO and ANSI caps, I'll always have to use at least 2 due to the enter key). it'll always be a little ugly just because of the dumb mistakes I made, but it works ok anyhow

so, a question I had. Is there any chance of split lshift support in the future (assuming it isn't there already). basically iso lshift on the inside and the 1u key on the outside, same as split rshift.

So I have been using my alps64 religiously since I received it from Bluenalgene's GB, but it will not wake my pc from sleep. My mouse and numpad will, but my alps64 will not and it is frustrating  :(
Does anybody know what might be causing this? I have it allowed to wake the pc in windows 10 settings.

As an added note, how do I enable N-Key rollover?

I think I found solution. Try this and report your result.
See github issue for the detail. https://github.com/tmk/tmk_keyboard/issues/361

In short,
Add this line in Makefile and build firmware.

OPT_DEFS += -DNO_LIMITED_CONTROLLER_CONNECT

Thanks, I will try this when I next add something to my keyboard.  :thumb:

This is precompiled firmware with wakeup fix. Try it.
(Attachment Link)

Thanks

I flashed this to my keyboard and tested it, it did not wake it from sleep.
I think it might just be the fact that I am running Windows 10 on x58.
I can cope with it though, I can just use my mouse or my numpad.

Thanks though and sorry for being a bother.

Thanks for your test.
hm, it can have problem with USB3 or some system.
I confirmed it can wake up Windows10 on my Thinkpad X201s but I don't have system with USB3 or x58 to test now. I'll leave this issue open on github and test it on newer system if I get a chance.

I can test it on usb2 when I get a chance, I hadn't thought of the add-on usb3 being an issue.

I was wondering if you could add this to the TMK Editor online?
oh yeah I saw that crazy **** if that doesn't win I'm deleting my account

Nice! I will try that!  :)
Just be careful with H2O2  Hydrogen peroxide, too much Sunlight may cause the Caps to be de-colored, White!

I do not recommend that thickness, the switches will not be able to properly clip into the plate.

1.0mm is a better choice.

I recommend emailing lasergist for a 1.2mm plate, I think someone posted in the 60% plate thread recently saying they've had success getting 1.2mm plates from lasergist by emailing them and asking for it specifically.

Yep lasergist will do 1.2mm plates. you have to select 1.5mm and then in notes you have to add that you want 1.2mm plate. Same cost.

"Yes, 1.2mm Stainless Steel is available at the same cost as the 1.5mm - just please add it as a note during checkout!"

Haven't made a post on here yet so thought I'd share my Alps64 build from the recent run. I'd say the build overall went pretty well considering it was the first keyboard I have ever built. Loving the 60% layout so far.  :D

I salvaged all the keycaps from an AEK II I found on eBay including a locking caps lock which I desoldered from the AEK II and soldered onto the new PCB (Using TMK made getting the locking caps lock working a dream).

Got a hold of some Matias quiet click switches and proceeded to remove the dampers from 60 of them, so the switches now have some proper satisfying audible feedback.

The case I used I found on Amazon from UK Keycaps for around 20 GBP, I've heard the stand offs are fairly flimsy on these cheap plastic cases but I haven't had any problems (yet). I haven't even used all the screws so only time will tell. I was considering something custom or maybe a nice acrylic case but shipping from the US costs about as much as the keyboard itself.

Still waiting for a custom USB cable I ordered from Pexon PC to arrive but other than that I'd say the build is complete.

Thanks to hasu too for making this GB possible I couldn't be happier with the end result.

Just got the Alps64 pcb, I hooked it up to the mac, but when I connect contacts with paperclip, the contacts do not register. Do I need to solder the diodes before they will work? Or do I need a different OS?

I believe you have to solder in the diodes first. That's what I did at least.

I checked the PCB by shorting the switch pad to the diode pad. I think hasu included explicit example in the OP, just follow it for all switch positions

waqer don't solder anything as if you do and the PCB still doesn't work it will be difficult to argue that the board was broken when you received it. I think hasu posted something about how to check if your PCB works before you go to all the effort of building the board. duynguyenle beat me to it while I was typing out this reply.

Success!

For Testing on OS X you need make sure plug in the board, type the following command:

system_profiler SPUSBDataType

You should get an output like this:

Alps64:

          Product ID: 0x6464
          Vendor ID: 0xfeed
          Version: 0.01
          Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
          Manufacturer: TMK
          Location ID: 0x14200000 / 20
          Current Available (mA): 1000
          Current Required (mA): 100
          Extra Operating Current (mA): 0

Now you can connect the contacts as described by @hasu and you should see 'm'

Since i couldn't find anybody ever REALLY confirming that the PCB fits a Pok3r case: yes, yes it does. Most satisfying fit i've ver seen. The USB connector is perfectly centered and the diodes basically "hug" the fins of the case (the older Pok3r case has supporting fins in the case). In a good way ;)

Here is a little build log of my 60% AEK with more pictures.
It uses an acrylic plate and custom stabilisers.
I made the drawings public on github

I'm still making modifications to my build, but I'd like to report that the PCB-material plate worked wonderfully, feels plenty solid, and was a pleasure to work with.
Once I'm done, I'll update with a post about the finished build. I had a lot of fun with it.

This board was built with the purpose of being dark and quiet, being visually and sonically unobtrusive while at the same time sacrificing little in terms of quality. In other words, the opposite of my Model F spherical project.
It is in AEK layout, with a PCB and PCB-material mounting plate from the ever-amazing Hasu. The switches are basically SKCM Orange, with a few key modifications. The sliders have been replaced with damped White sliders from a 1995 AEK II (hence Creamsicle), and a small piece of folded paper has been inserted behind the tactile leaf, in effect making the switches more quiet than even MX Browns with O-rings. The spacebar has been silenced by means of installing landing pads on the stabilizers, which previously produced a large degree of rattle and clack.
The Capslock and Right-Super keys are SKCL Locking switches (Grey and Cream, respectively), the Right-Super key kicking the board into a function layer, with WASD functioning as arrow keys, QE as PgUp and PgDn, < and > as previous track and next track, P as play/pause, and -+ as volume controls, along with Backspace as mute.
The main body of keys is a sort of dark copper color, created by not quite dyeing them long enough in iDye Poly black, but I've found that I kind of like the color.
The case is an aluminum case from a Pok3r, and the spacebar was nearly a disaster, as dipping an ABS spacebar in near-boiling dye is always scary, especially when you remember that 6.5u spacebars are hard to source.
This is my first 60% board, my first Alps board, and my first Otaku board. Frankly, I love it. Here's a typing sample, from before the keys were dyed, and with the original plastic case.

It's alive! Just finished my first custom, and first 60% ALPS64.
Spacebar needs a bit of retrobrite.

Donor for Keycaps: AEK (cream switches not used)
Switches: Matais clicke  switches
Case: Low Profile silver aluminum
Plate: Lasergist 1.2mm thick

Now to install AVR and program it.

Lately I've been getting lots of double keypresses, and I'm not sure what's causing it. I just had the soldering touched up a couple of weeks ago and hadn't had issue with it until this week. Any ideas what might be going on?

I switched my keycaps and my t and i keys have been double pressing (chattering?), I haven't checked my soldering but I can only assume that that is the issue. I type "but" a lot and it keeps making me type "butt" lol

Confirm your config DEBOUNCE settings. Most of the times, it's a failing switch. :(

Cool! I won't be able to jump in this round but hopefully I will manage to make the next one. Great to see that these are still being made.

That's quite nice Hasu  :thumb:

Will you consider doing different colours in future runs or will this be the new permanent colour?

I recently tend to choose green from the point view of cost but I can't say anything in future.
Ex-manufacturer doesn't cost me for color but current one does :(

Does anyone have problem on USB suspend(sleep)/resume(wakeup) and BIOS/EFI with Alps64?
I am debuging and updating USB code in repository and wan to get infos on this from users, like detailed problem description, OS, computer hardware and etc.

Can you sleep computer with keeping  keyboard connected?
Can you wakeup computer with keyboard? Pressing any key on keyboard should wake your computer.
Can you use keyboard normally after wakeup(resume)?

Can you use keyboard normally after reboot?
Can you use keyboard normally on BIOS/UEFI?
Can you use keyboard normally on BIOS/UEFI after reboot?

Thanks.
