nice chess boards  :)

Thanks ;)

I also want to do a "fruity" one, but yeah. The layout of the 1800 is quite special :D
It's hard to find single keys for shift and Num 0 in the desired color I guess.

Mx3.0? That one has lower caps, doesn't it? Can you even type on it?

I have the same boards at home, maybe I'll try myself :)

I tried it, because it is cool to mod your keycaps I heard.
And surprisingly it writes perfectly fine. :D

I can't do it.... because I use my g8-1800 at my office, and I hate to draw too much attention :-)

Very nice thread. <3

I am a G80-1800 fan myself. To be more accurate I am a Raptor Gaming K1 fan.

I bought my first K1 more than 10 years ago:

It has Cherry MX-Blacks, GER ISO layout, laser-etched keycaps.

You may notice that the keycaps have the typical ABS shine to them. I don't mind. This baby has been my main keyboard for the whole time. Back when I bought it there was no real mecha-community. In fact I had to defend it more than once on a LAN party ("OMG? Why didn't you get a G15 with display and backlight?"). I wrote papers on it (from the first day of university until I graduated!), played probably more than 10k hours with it. You are still able to read every key's printing (makes you wonder: WHO NEEDS DOUBLESHOTS ANYWAY? :P). So what's the problem?! I still dig the layout and it works flawlessly. Hopefully always will.

I hesitated some time to post this because image quality isn't great and the keyboard isn't anything special when you take away the 10+ years of usage it lived through. Hope (some of) you like it!

Well and that's pretty much all I can post. I have some more K1s but they are all factory new (back when Raptor was bought by Corsair you could get them for down to 15€ on ebay and I once bought a whole stash of OEM-packaged ones) so I guess posting them would be kinda super boring, because I only got ISO-GERs (laser etched, not a single DS! :() and AZERTYs (all DS AFAIR).

I probably should aim for a little bit more variety in my "collection" before coming back. :P

Nothing wrong with the Raptor K1. It is a great little board and those GID keycaps can be a very stylish addition when done right.

I really like mine but my girlfriend now uses it at work with a small fortune in artisans and modpacks. :P

Slick!!! I assume from the pictures that you went with PCB mount instead of plate mount? I'm more of a plate mount person myself, but I suppose going PCB-mount stays truer to the original 1800 vision. Is the Cherry logo an original feature of the case or did you achieve that using a sticker?

got this baby in the mail today, needs some love but overall, what a board. Vintage browns are kinda nice, much much better than modern browns.

I know it's not a G80-1800, but there isn't a thread for Dolch boards :)

So i spent a lot of this week cleaning up this bad boy. Half a tub of cotton buds and a pack of baby wipes later and here we are.

I bought it early last year with the intention of cleaning it up and never got round to it. It did originally have a rubberised coating on it (which you can see at the top on the ridged section) but it had gone sticky so i decided to wipe it off.

Dat controller tho. (Yes I know my desk is messy.

I hadn't tested it at all until about 20 minutes ago, and it works perfectly :D This one has a removable PS2 to DIN cable instead of an RJ11 cable like some boards. Luckily I had a DIN connector from when I bought my 1900HAD a while back, so I could use this to test it.

I have also used acrylic polish to remove some of the scratches caused by getting the coating off which actually works really well. Yeah it's shiny, but I think it looks ace. More to come with the accompanying project ;)

Lovely. Haven't thought about that kind of keyset mixing but it's looks great on those boards! :)

Hey guys thought this might be the thread to ask in. Anybody know where I can buy a black UK layout 1800? Haven't had a mech keyboard before thinking I might get the Miami Dolch kit off Massdrop to go with it.

All the ones I'm seeing on Amazon and Ebay are black mx switches and I'm thinking I'd prefer brown or red.

You will need to buy a standard 1800 keyboard and either swap the switches or the stems. I don't recall ever seeing G80-1800 keyboard with anything other than mx Black (with the exception of Skidata which had mx clear) (11800 and 11900 were made with MX brown, but they're not true 1800 layout and the keycaps are not totally compatible due to the 2u right shift.

blues and blacks, I only saw those versions. Opening the switches and replacing the springs is very fast though. I've just ordered the new cherry silent switches for my g80-1800

Thanks for the advice. Wasn't aware I could switch them out later that's good to know.
