Title: Post Your Christmas Trees
Post by: Computer-Lab in Basement on Wed, 04 December 2013, 14:43:17
Might be a bit early for this thread, but whatever, I'm making it anyways...

I'll just start with this pic. It's old, but is worth posting. This tree stood at my dad's house for three and a half years before we finally took it down...

For some reason, I never considered putting beer cans, John Deer hats and guns on my Christmas tree.  I don't know why.

I do leave my Christmas lights up year round though. I've used Christmas lights as lighting in my living room for the past 5 years.

Yeah, it was a redneck pride kinda thing. But Christmas lights up year round, always a cool thing to do. Had a bunch of them strung up in my room a while ago, all tied into a synthesizer and my sound system (made for some really trippy lights shows late at night...)

my parents used a real tree once time and it left prickly things in the carpet for 10 years......

I will always use a fake tree, besides my kids don't know the difference.....my 5yr old 'Dad why is the Christmas tree black" me "we saved it from a forest fire"

The best part of a real tree for xmas, is the smell of fresh pine (real, not that fake **** that smells awful) through the house.

Any decent vacuum can pick up pine needles.

See this is what I don't get....we won't even be home for an entire week around Christmas but yet the wife still had to have a tree up 6 weeks ahead of time......

Not from the devil tree, of course the 70's shag carpet didn't help.... :))

Well, it's a mix of that and having kids/babies around the house and the last thing we want is them eating the needles.

My little sister never ate the needles. We had one of those big white christmas tree mats under the big holder, and most of the needles got caught on that

I have a 4 year old. I don't think he ever ate things I had to worry about, but every child is different. Of course, crawling toddlers wouldn't appreciate pine needles in their hands and knees :P

Do y'all use real or fake trees?

My tree from 2001 posted above was real - and I cut it down myself. There was a Christmas tree farm down the road. I felt really bad about killing such a nice tree, but if I didn't cut it down, somebody else would have. That was the last tree I cut down. It was so huge and heavy, it mangled 2 tree holders and I had to get a 40lb cast iron one.

Since then, I've just been decorating a 7 foot tropical tree I have in my house - and nothing dies. (no nice pine scent though)

Agreed!

How to keep the needles to a minimum:
Keep the tree cold (outdoors) until it is time to decorate it - it will not shed if it is cold. Keep a Christmas tree carpet under the tree that collects the needles.
When it gets time to throw it out, shove the tree into a large garbage bag before moving it, and empty the carpet into the bag. Then it comes time to vacuum for the first time. No problem.

I'll post it when I put up the pill bottle lights.

My dad saved all of his prescription bottle for like 10+ years, and stuck them all onto a few strings of Christmas lights.

It's as awesome as it sounds.
