sell them, i did, got one 24 inch instead =), as a linux user i instead make use of the different workspaces. Im thinking of getting a 30inch screen now, but i dont really feel like putting up the money for it.

That depends on their size and layout. I can take three 20" (4:3) screens as PPP or one 30" (16:10) screen with one or two of the former as PLP, and it's alright. Anything more is too much for me (namely, LLL or PPP with larger widescreens).

Assuming you have 3x 27", 1440p monitors. Then center monitor in landscape, 2x in portrait flanking it..
Mmm... machined aluminum

Have you considered an ultrawide? I was on the fence between double monitors or ultrawide and went with the latter. Not changing back. I have a 34" Dell ultrawide. That 38" LG one looks super awesome as well.

i need centre 144hz 24" for gaming, other two are IPS panel 21" in landscape for productivity (yes I use all 3 actively). I want to put them in portrait but they're really cheap **** monitors that don't have much adjustment (and a non-standard mounting bracket so i'd have to get an adapter -_-)

ultrawide is a no go unfortunately

best i could do is push them back a little further

Hmm, good point. Do you do all on the same machine? I do work on a MBP and gaming on a PC. The ultrawide was a bit of a compromise for me. I've been thinking of switching to just separate setups, a 144hz for gaming and the ultrawide for productivity... But you need a lot of desk space for that.

Even some cheap monitors have 75mm VESA MIS mount on the back.

However, I'd just replace both of those suckers by one ~32" screen.

New addition to my home development setup: A 5 node Kubernetes cluster built using Nano ITX boards. 16 physical cores, 40GB of memory and 720GB of SSD storage. 3 of the nodes are passively cooled J1900 Celerons and 2 are dual-core i3s. Low power consumption was one of the main design goals for the build.

I'm running Ubuntu 16.04 as the base OS.

They are Nano ITX boards from Qotom:

With quad-core J1900 Celeron
With dual-core i3

Thanks :)

I deploy the server side applications that I build to Kubernetes. This is going to be my development cluster. I'm planning to run Concourse CI, Prometheus, Open Tracing, Zookeeper, Kafka, various databases.

Any why not, household things like Plex server too :) It's just a bunch of compute. If I can containerise an app, I can just chuck it on there.

It depends on your use case. Less nodes (or even just one) but with better performance per core? Or more nodes (and cores), but less performance per core?

For my use case, I want to be able to run a lot of containers to replicate a production-like setup. However, since this is a development environment, it will not see actual production-like load. So single core performance isn't that important. More cores is more useful for my use case.

You can always mix and match node configurations to get the optimum setup. If you are using Kubernetes, you can let it know that specific nodes have better single core performance, and set pod affinity to these nodes for applications that need the performance. For example, maybe I want CI build workers to complete builds faster. I could add a node with an i7, and tell Kubernetes to schedule the workers on the i7 whenever possible.

I didn't seriously consider Raspberry Pis because they don't have enough memory to effectively bin pack containers. Plus a lot of apps require x86.

I also need x86/x64 support for many packages I rely on.
That's why I'm not sold to the Raspberry Pi yet unless I want to build some robotic toy or cheap home media console.

I (or where I work?) attract dust a lot and am quite lazy to clean them regularly, and this is another factor that let me rethink if a cluster is good for me.
