HHKB and VirtualBox
« on: Sun, 12 April 2009, 22:23:00 »
I am using VirtualBox as my VM and an HHKB keyboard.

When VirtualBox has the focus you need to hit the Right Control key to break the focus. There is no Right Control key on the HHKB.

I am missing something?

No, you're not—there's no control key on the right side of the board.

VirtualBox lets you redefine the break focus key. I personally use the right-side Windows key (I never use it otherwise).

I feel pretty stupid now. But thanks, I found the setting.

I've got nothing to add other than the fact that I LOVE VirtualBox.  :)

: ) I had to hook up my model m mini until I figured out how to change the setting. Once found, I changed it to right alt. All is well now.

I don't use the vm all that much but have to say that virtualbox installed straightaway and for what it does, works fine for me. Up till now, I was using vmware which worked fine also but was more of a pain to install.

I find VirtualBox to be a great desktop VM solution.  However, it really shines as a dedicated VM server solution.  Easy to manage exclusively from the command line.  Unfortunately, I have VM's that will ONLY run under VMware, so I have to use both.

for windows guests, if you install guest additions (it's in the menu) you don't need to use a break focus key. It automatically grabs focus when mouse cursor is over and breaks it when you move the mouse out of the virtual machine window. very handy.
