GMK Katakana BoW
Simple, Sleek, Fun


I saw Katakana with the rise of weeb sets and really liked the "angular" look of the characters and wanted a simple BoW version of it in Cherry Profile!
I also saw this as an opportunity to attempt to fix the small gripe I have with the top 3 key cluster of the nav keys (Print Screen, Scroll Lock and Pause)

Colors are GMK Stock WS1 and CR

My goal is to keep the kits small but pack as much usefulness into them so that anyone can buy any kit, even if not interested in the base kit.
Basekit was made to be smaller than usual to keep price low.
Kitting is not final and I welcome any feedback in the comments or on the IC form!

FAQ


Why no "insert some key here"?

To keep price at a minimum. If you really want the key, comment here or in the IC form and if enough people want it, I'll add it!


Why no Kanji F-Row/ numbers?

I wanted to stick with katakana only (except for the halfwidth, fullwidth key), plus Japanese use Latin numbers and it fits with katakana.


Deskmats or Novelties?

I do not have either planned


Why new Pause, Print Screen, Scroll lock legends?

The og GMK ones don't look good and don't fit the katakana style which I really like, so I created new ones!


Molds?

Mito's katakana and custom molds for the Half Width, Full Width and Pause, Print Screen and Scroll Lock

Icon only mods are always nice, and your mold ideas flow well with the katakana/icon legends.

One consideration I'd like to suggest is for you to look into alternate F-row keys for a more uniform look.

Monolegend katakana is the sole point for me to join this one. I think Latin alpha child kit is good, but pls no not another katakana sub, there are lots of them already.

Great set, appreciate that it's not lost in trying to make too many different kits - simple and efficient.

Just wish it wasn't gmk, would love to see this before 2023/2024.

I can always add keys but if I add OS keys I'd also add other keys which makes the price go up! I'm not opposed to it but didn't want to do so from the start! Again, if enough people want more keys, I'll happily add them!

Numpad in base conflicts my idea of keeping kits sepparate so that one can buy a WoB Numpad kit for something unrelated to the base kit. Also Numpad in base raises the base kit price a lot.

GMK Masterpiece molds are not public. I'd have to get permission from the creator and he's expressed his dislike for BoW sets so I'd likely not even get it. Also it isn't minimal/clean anymore and a bit cluttered.
The only thing I would do is what GMK Modern Ink is doing and having it on the side, however with the set still in IC aswell as that being one of it's main features I don't feel comfortable copying his design so I've kept it at icon only.

Hiragana isn't the focus of this set. GMK Modern ink is a BoW Hiragana Sublegend set

Good looking kitting and legends. Looks like you paid attention to everything (and I don't doubt that having NoPun's advice helped). Good job, all in all!

My only gripe is with the positioning discrepancy between the Backspace (center-left) and Delete (top-left) legends. With them being so similar, and often even placed next to each other (e.g. on 65%/75%), it might look weird on a board. Have you considered either:
a) changing the nav, arrow etc. legends to all be center-left aligned (this may require some new molds); or
b) coming up with a different Delete legend (this would require one new mold)?

Replacing the Delete icon was my original intent, but I couldn't come up with anything that I liked. I had an idea with an x but it ended up looking too similar to the multiplication. I ended up leaving it, thinking if people dislike it they'd express their opinion, which you just did :D
I'll relook at it and see if I can come up with anything that I like. Thanks for the feedback.
