Sets with centred legends such as this one often omit the tertiary (alt gr) legends, as it's difficult to know how to properly lay them out on the key. Sets with left aligned legends often include them, as it leaves room to right align the tertiary legend.

^Nailed it. The alpha legends are all center aligned.  Adding the third alt character in would cause issues with visual consistency/balance.
If the legends were top left aligned (i.e. KAT Napoleonic Spanish kit), then we would have space for the third alt character in the bottom right, but we aren't afforded that room here.

Well done Boba and dudeship... you can really see the amount of effort you put into this set. The set isn't for me, but I will be picking up a base kit + deskmat as a gift for a friend who will love it.

Is the gradient finalized? I'm really interested in getting a blue kit on top of finding a KAT profile, but i feel like there's too many white keys, I'd like to see more blue keys in this kit and a little less white keys.

GB DATE! June 2021

(Sorry, it just took me such a long time to find this in the OP, it's kind if buried and nondescript, maybe other will see it easier here)

Hi,

Also just wanted to quickly plug the Ikki Aurora 68, a keyboard GB that ends today.

I submitted a few designs inspired by KAT Great Wave novelties (Great Wave, Mt Fuji, and blossom branch) and they made the final round of 13 community badges. The badges will be compatible with future Ikki aurora boards, and are also available now and that GB will continue for a little bit longer. When there is a R2 of Ikki Aurora, rest assured I will resubmit them again if you're unsure about this round of board or badge colours.
They're available here in E-white, Dark Gray, Rose Gold and Gold.

#~ is indeed from ISO UK (at least)

I think I already requested it in the IC form, but if possible, please add the few keys missing for Portuguese layout to the "La Gran Ola" kit. This way, the great wave of Iberian Peninsula would be included  :p

Sample pics from Keyreative are here!

Now that I've got the behemoth kitting for KAT Space Dust finalised, I'll be revisiting KAT Great Wave kitting again to make some final adjustments/corrections (found some minor omissions), and aim to submit final kits in the next week for kit quotes.

Also semi-related, give us a follow on social media (https://www.instagram.com/boba.kinks/ & https://www.instagram.com/dudeshipmk/)!

Thanks for commenting here on the GH post. It's hard to track all the kitting feedback on the IC form. I'll be matching compatibility to be similarish to KAT Space Dust in some manners.

Any reason there won't be a latin blue numpad, for southpaw users?
We have to relook at our kitting numbers as vendors only wish to logistically handle a certain amount. If I can, I'll try, but can't promise.

Some upcoming kit revisions (we'll update the OP with new renders of the kit when we have time, but for the meantime here's just KLE pictures)

We're revising our numpad kits, based on popularity from a small poll today in our discord server about Kanji sublegends (options E, F and 3).

Numpad kit
- removal of R4 delete key (artefact holdover from when we had R5 sculpt)
- addition of scooped 5 homing key
- addition of a light blue arrow key for 100% layout to have a smoother gradient

Spacebar kit - corrected:

Mac Kit
- colours of R2 keys corrected, and also missing dark blue FN 1u key(s) added

Colemak kit
- Inclusion of Backspace keys and a minor legend correction

Nordic kit
- considering if we should include German (thus making it a NORDE kit)

or keep German alphas standalone by itself

South kit - added portuguese compatibility (considering Italian but likely won't add)

On another note, I wanted to plug the Wave deskmat (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=111411.0), which is commencing GB this week (19th April). See sample pic of Ai (藍) [Indigo] colourway:

Beautiful work, OP.  :thumb:
Thanks! Dudeship and I put a lot of time and care into this set.

Kitting changes (currently depicted as KLE) - thanks to Nopunin10did and Kidviddy for their feedback

ALPHAs
- Latin: will retain UK compatibility. Terminal ISO related alphas have been culled.

- The sublegend Alphas have been slimmed down to just cover minimum physical compatibility for non-ANSI users, albeit punctuations will be incorrect for the num-row in particular. Sorry ISO-UK users that are a fan of the sublegend kits, but ISO-UK-JP isn't a real layout in the end, so minimal coverage is the most I'm willing to do. None of the other ISO users who pick the sublegends kit will have 100% accuracy with their punctuation symbols either.

- Katakana mono remains compatible for non-ANSI users

MODIFIERS
- Icons:remains same (no picture)
- Text: The terms 'Great' & 'Wave' remain substitute for the 1.25u OS/Win/Sys/Code key, however due to spacing issues of placing the term 'GREAT' on the 1u keycap, it's been shifted to 1.5u coverage replacement. 1u OS key will use the term 'SYS'

- Japanese: Due to the term 'Control' (コント ロール) taking up two lines, versus the one line Japanese terms for all the other bot row modifiers of Alt, Meta etc. The term for Control has now been replaced by "大浪" (Great Wave) for some visual consistency.

F-ROW
- Largely remain the same

But here's some pics to show gradient compatibility with  F13 layouts, and compressed F-row keyboard layouts:

NUMPAD
- 6 kits now, instead of previous 4. Sublegends polled really well, thus they will be available in all pattern variants.

JIS
- Both latin alphas and mods combined for simplicity sake and also alleviate number of kits given more numpad kits added. Given nil mold for 4.5c spacebar exists for the manufacturer, and 2.75c is in the spacebar kit, only 3c spacebar is retained.

This'll be the first set of real keycaps I'll purchase, I absolutely love it! Deskmats are awesome too, I'll probably throw in a few of those as well.

I'd prefer a full set with German alphas as a standalone.

Looking forward to getting these :)

Love the new numpad kanji sublegends, having both Western and Kanji numbers together looks so good.

Love that the latin alpha has UK ISO support with it, although I had decided to get the Hiragana sublegends - such a shame it doesn't work out with ISO in Hiragana sublegends, as using the big Enter key with the Dragon from the Novelties to create ISO layout would look so good. I guess I could grab the extra JIS Mods for the 2/@ keys for ISO but might look out of place without Hiragana sublegends on them.

Looking forward to grabbing pretty much the whole kit to create a 96% keyboard with that nice gradient look  ;D Really hoping for a THOK keycap to finish this set off perfectly!

Hey,

this is probably going to be the first keycap set that I'm going to buy. I'm interested in the german set. I noticed that the set is missing some sublegends. I don't know if this was done on purpose or it is a mistake.

Would like to get a reply before I list the sublegends that are missing.

Thank you very much and greetings

Hi, thank you for your interest, please see attached picture of German kit. Please note, the legends in this set are center aligned, so there will only ever be a maximum of 2 legends per keycap due to space.
If the Latin Alphas were top left aligned (instead of top center aligned), then there would be space for a tertiary (third - bottom right) legend. i.e..  http://kbdlayout.info/kbdgr
The legend alignment will be similar to KAT Space Dust's German kit which: https://i.imgur.com/KcwN0Cy.png

Is this gonna have a WS1 kind of white? I’ve got some other KAT sets and I’m wondering if they’d be compatible whites...

Hi ya,
I agree it's slightly confusing, sorry. I will be aiming to update the first post with all the kit revisions in the next fortnight hopefully. Just takes time to render it all out again.
Essentially most of the kits are staying, the most recent KLEs on my last post in this thread are more up to date are just fixing some compatibility and legends errors. I'm in the process of slimming down the ergo and novelties kits to make them a bit more affordable.  The current novelties kit was based off a R5 top row configuration, whereas it's now only R4 profile for top row.

Damn, y’all put some real effort into this set, great work!

Thanks! The white will be the same default white as KAT Alphas, which imo leans a bit closer to WS2, than the creamy WS1

Also going to shamelessly plug the current ongoing Wave deskmat groupbuy if you're interested in a blue seigaiha deskmat. This deskmat only groupbuy ends in 4 days time and is priced affordably. Check it out!

Here's some renders with KAT Great Wave:

The last 2 are photos, not renders, shot by @Oziiiobsessions

In other news, NA Vendor Vala.supply has received prototypes of some of the deskmats from this groupbuy, and I'll post photos as soon as I get them. I've been doing some minor revisions to Ryujin to Ryu (improving fine details and consistency with the waves)

Thanks for letting me know! I really like the KAT Alpha white, more than the KAT BOW white, so Great Wave is looking like a definite buy for me  :thumb:

I like your signature! Cheers for supporting the set.

Hi so people were a bit confused with the kitting changes made thus far, and what the final kits look like. Been slowly doublechecking kits, so here is a snapshot of the production vector files. Primarily:

The Novelties kit Ukiyo-E has been rejigged. We removed duplicate keys that were legacy due to original R5 profile (now the top row is only R4).
An additional novelties kit called Seigaiha was added.
The Mons kit had some design changes.
All the alpha keys now come with both 6.25u and 7u spacebars (shifted from the mods). I believe this is a bit friendlier for ortho users who like a big rod.
A 'base' kit (Aizuri-E) has been added for beginners who might be a bit confused with all the kit options. See the final kit at the bottom of the following list. Note the f-row keys in this are not colour gradient compatible with compressed 75% layouts where the f-row keys are non-exploded, or TKLs with F13.
Ergo kit has also been slimmed substantially down to reduce price. I've still kept some novelties, but much less.

A big shout out goes to Oli (of SA Geoma) who suggested a Seigaiha kit and helped clean up some of the novelty vectors for production.

one alphas + one modifier is enough to complete a 65% keyboard, correct?

No problems

To reduce kit sizes and numbers we haven't made R5 top row.
Having R4 only top row means means we reduce the number of novelty keys a little bit more (as one R4 novelty will cater to both layouts with and without F-Rows).
Having R5, means 1800 layouts need extra nav keys. That makes kitting messier and more expensive.
Furthermore most metal artisan collabs use KAT R4 only for the Esc accent to suit 60/65% layout. I'm sure they can do R5, but 60/65% users would hate using a R5 esc key, and conversely it would look odd if a 75%/100% user had a R4 esc artisan key next to their R5 F-row.

Not that it matters as much here given the Mons and Seigaiha kit coverage, but R4 F-row keys are also much less awkward to use in place of a side macro column (XT-layout) versus R5 keys due to the less aggressive sculpt
R4 keys also can also be readily flexed down to num-row if ppl who use 60%/65% wish to do so for whatever reason (i.e. Kanji for num-row)

In good news, earlier this week we have received quotes from the manufacturer, thus we're waiting for vendors to confirm the final retail prices for each kit! So we're on track for a mid June GB date start hopefully!

Hi yep, best way to keep up, in the discord (current invite link: https://discord.gg/WtpjcHMF)
Our NA vendor Vala Supply has received some protos and taken the following photos:

Great Cats off Kanagawa

See if you can find the 4 cats!

The Great Koi

Onami

Ryujin (note manufacturer picked the wrong color for the stitching)

Since these protos were made/shipped, I've finally finalised the design of Ryujin (there was some fine detail tweaks to the face that I wanted to improve to increase stylistic consistency) and the original artwork "the Great Wave off Kanagawa" (I couldn't find a high resolution of the existing artwork that worked within the scale of a 900mm x 400mm canvas without distortion) and will try to get protos of these done.
Ryu (the least popular mat based on polls) is still a work in progress atm. I'm not yet totally happy with it.

Im looking to kit a redox keyboard which needs more 1.25u than the ergodox's 1.5u. I know the ergo kit has undergone some changes, but sadly it looks like there aren't enough 1.25u in the correct rows to make it work. Might be too late, but have you considered instead of icon or novelty in the ergo kit, going to blanks for the 'mods' and then having 1.5u and 1.25u support for each row?

Hi there bamblerow!
In regards to the kit in question:

All kits have now received quotes from manufacturer and now bring priced by vendors, thus unlikely to change. Legends, and colours can still be adjusted but not actual keycap sizes and number of keycaps in each kit.
Unfortunately, not being familiar with redox layouts, I found more resources for Ergodox kitting during kit development, thus the Ergo kit was based off those guidelines (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=105714.0).  The 'novelty' and 'japanese character' keys in the ergo kit essentially serve the purpose of 1u blanks and are there for a purpose in the current kit, to provide further coverage to the ergo layouts for which the current icon modifier legends aren't in their ideal position due to the gradient. I'm also personally not the biggest fan of large amounts of blanks in kits.
