Just tried out a new style!

Featuring Katz Monkey, Katz Blank, Bro Lycan, R5, Ghostwhites.

Then I noticed I got too used to BS to easily switch back to blacks. Also I can barely type my password on these blanks.   :-X

I finally got an 1800 in the mail yesterday. Yes, it's a G81, but I have a Leeku PCB on the way, so it won't be MY for long. Although MYs are interesting...

Pictures to follow later today.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

I've get this one for 2 days and already done some simple cleaning work.
Not very good looking and 4 keycaps are missing. But still, I like it. Later maybe I will get some more keycaps to 'dress' it. Then I'll be back to show more pics.

Gonna get a new PCB?

Yessir! I'm using it at home, and it's not too bad. It's strange getting used to Cherry profile, and MYs aren't fantastic, I think they are a lot like MX Greys, but I will be getting a new PCB some point in the new year to change it to clears, or maybe Zealios.

**** yeah :3 I'm using it now so I can get used to the layout, then hopefully it will have SKIDATA+ on it... As much as I love the German legends :( I'm so tempted to try and find a set of Cherry UK ISO alphas and just keep the German mods...

Yeah, you'll get used the layout pretty fast. Only major change would be if you're used to winkey and then switching to WKL.

But yeah, having a foreign layout can be tricky. Luckily, Azerty didn't give me any issues because I'm typing ANSI and I touchtype so the legends don't bug me too much :P

I'd say wait for that SKIDATA+, m8. It's going to look so good.

Its leeku's 1800 PCB, and LZ made some milled + brushed aluminum top and bottom layers, with 3 acrylic mid layers. Not as fancy as LZ's modern boards, but if you are interested there is Meiosis' ComPact SQ 1800 with an option for "Alu Skin" (same idea, different form factor)  https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=76617.msg1917524

My plan is to get both versions of the alu skin together and hope they make me beautiful aluminum babies :p. Just gotta figure out which one is the male and which is the female...  :))

Ah ok thank you, I did see the Compact SQ group buy but regrettably passed on it. I'd like to have a full alu board, I know the LZ CP isn't exactly the same but that may be on my wish list now.

But hopefully making myself wait for original Cherry equipment will be worth it.

Newest one to the family! Just picked up today.

G80-1814HEU with original Cherry Style Keycaps and MX clears. It has one broken Clear stem and a missing a keycap (which I beleieve I may have an SP cherry profile replacement for). Distributed by Seimens. Keycaps are like new with no shine (as seen in pics) and it hasn't been cleaned yet (white on there is just some powder).

omg so jelly

I know, right?  ;D
Its the rarest 1800's to find and its the BLACK version which i haven't even been able to find pictures of elsewhere.
Plus, there is no shine on the caps, already sent a message to Bunny to see if I can buy a += keycap from the JTK first run as a replacement.

I found a Focus FK-9000 the same day and pulled a G80-1600HAU from the same place before Christmas as well as a bunch of rarer alps keyboards like a Texas Instruments branded Acer KB-101A and an SGI Granite PS2 as well as some not-so-rare mech keyboards. I prefer a PCB + Plate mounted feel and don't generally care for MX clears, but these feel so much nicer than another MX clear board I have (pok3r). If this is what Zealios feel like, I finally get it.

Fred's warehouse of fun, which was up for the picking for Dallas Makerspace members on certain days. I have pulled Tons of Techflex, Shrinktube, Mil-spec SPC Teflon wire, a Tektronix Logic Analyzer (still working, with PODs, and even found the matching MX black Tektronix keyboard for it today which is really pretty), Power Conditioners, and even a few Variable Power supplies.

Tons of other stuff I haven't yet posted anywhere. However, I have given away many to friends and family with no mech keyboards (Mostly Del At-101/w's I put new ALPs keycaps on from the MD GB). I have picked over everything that looked salvegable though, but there are some old WYSE terminal boards still left in the joint with vintage MX blacks as well as a rubber-dome Model M which is in good shape. Some keyboards, especially the XT ones, will likely be given to other members of the Vintage Computer Club who are in need (bunch of cool old funky layouts).

Its mostly been Clean, Fix, Test mode lately with many of them. Even got an Alps 1800-style board with Trackpad out of there which is also going to a friend who does CAD and needs the numpad, but looking for a compact.

omg so jelly

What is this place you keep finding these boards :O

That sounds awesome!!! You wouldn't by chance be able to pick up a board with vintage blacks for me would you :D??? Or have one yourself for sale?

It is HARD work pulling some of these out of here and I have gone through almost every inch of the place. There is an IBM compatible HP Spectre in the back that is complete (matching monitor and Keyboard) in great shape as well. I even got a brand new case for my IBM 5150 and Matching original Monitor of which he has sooo many.

Oh god that's a lot of tech. Kudos to you for saving all of what you've gotten so far!!! I hope someone gets that HP.

You should use gold plated stabs instead.

Thank you, it is even more amazing to type on :)

I probably should, but I keep spending $$$ on keycaps...
