What do you collect?
« on: Thu, 22 August 2013, 04:41:34 »
This is a keyboard forum, but some of us are hoarders at heart! Post pictures of stuff you collect!

Keyboard wise I have my LZ-S and GON NS 87... 6 keychains, and you've all seen my keycaps and stuff. My keyboard collection really isn't as huge as I'd like it to be.

Zippos: I've been collecting Zippos for 2-3 years now? I can do tricks with them and I like to play with them whenever I'm bored, and I love working out my fingers.

Gunnar Optiks: I wear these, prescribed, I get them for free. I have 3 pairs. There are pictures of me wearing the blue ones.

TechKeys business cards: I don't have many, especially not duplicates. I am missing the GOLD one (ironic that I'd be searching for the #GOLD one?)

Lapel Pins: I grab these everytime I go travelling, it started when I was young and travelled the east side of Canada. The shirt happens to be one of the ones I wore during said trip.

Guild Wars: Big fan of this game. See for yourself.

Pre Guild Wars 2

Now

I even have my original art book signed by the team.

And some of you know me for my love of Evangelion:

Probably a bunch of other stuff I've missed. I definitely have way more "stuff" but these are the things I go out and collect. Oh speaking of which, I have like 20~ New Era Fitted caps, no pics of it.

Now... post your cool collections!

Great collection Sifo! :) Love the zippos :)

I collect consoles :) Mainly gameboy, but have many other non-handheld :P

Sometimes I mod them a lil bit:

As well as some gaming related stuff like:

Apart from that I seem to be collecting PC's O,o but that collection is unintentional :P I repair electronics, mainly PC's and my clients often leave behind their old hardware :)

Oh! I love playing Magic too but I don't collect so much since I only play Standard Format (I bought a booster box of Dragon's Maze while I was in America which I will get rid of once I construct my deck). I however do keep all my previous competitive decks, so that in itself is kind of a collection. (I label them, for example 2012-2013 or whatever years I played it, and then archive/retire it).

As for gaming stuff, I have a ton of retro gaming stuff and a bunch of consoles too. I however stopped with all that stuff T_T

I used to have lots of Taeyeon(김태연) signed stuff and etc...

Also Sifo I have the 75th anniversary zippo

One of the better looking ones I think that were cheap a while ago (around retail or a bit over?)

I think as far as collecting goes currently, I collect money on online poker to see how high I can go before I graduate college :P. Always loved grinding in games thank god it transferred to poker.

Collection of keyboards not as big as some longtime GH-ers......and then there's the girldc caps

I collect SB cards! :thumb:

There must be still some forgotten relics of my eraser collection from primary school.....the ones with all the different country flags and those with different pokemon printed on it

EDIT: Action figures.....I've always wanted a Sona figurine from LoL.....but a custom made hand painted one from Andrea Minatures costs nearly $4000 with the mold costs.....

Im afraid to start collecting figures cause I know I would spend so much on them.  Don't really collect anything myself but seeing those guild wars things reminds me that I made my gw2 warrior after saber from the fate series.  Had a sunrise and everything and made the front page of /r/gw2 on halloween  :-[.

Closest I have to a collection is my sc2 shirts.  Two team liquid ones, TL hoodie, a fake IM one, an audiobuilds one, complexity, axiom, zerg logo one, and day9 shirt.  Though I need to start watching again.  I think I've only seen a couple games of hots.

dust, crap, scars and spider webs... but seriously:

free software T-shirts (mostly from conferences and GBs, but also one that was given to me by Marble developers), red hats (I have two) and baseball caps (one still probably has Linus Torvalds' dandruffs, lol)... and penguins (i.e. Tux)
backpacks (seriously, I have at least ten backpacks, although only Wenger Maxxum and the crumpler one are used regularly... it's almost like purses)
music (mostly European power metal, nothing extraordinary except some Helloween bootlegs)
pictures of weather, especially clouds or fog (unfortunately, I haven't had time to process it, it's like ten thousand photos)
headphones (proud owner of HD 25-13 and HD 565 (the 90s!), I want to get rid of the rest (cheap grados, audio-technicas, musician-centric beyers))
keyboards, mouses and trackballs (nothing too exciting compared to other members... and again, I want to keep just a few ergo boards and trackballs, and be done with it)
books (not physically, but I've read almost JRR Tolkien's writings including the less known ones)

i try to purge my belongings and stick to a reasonable number of the same thing... i used to be QUITE the collector growing up, from action figures to game systems to computers (i had a decently impressive sized collection of vintage Macs until I was about 17) to CDs to bikes to magazines (over 5 years of EGM, about 50 issues of MacAddict, holy **** did anybody else here ever read MacAddict)... i was on track to hoarderville until I moved out on my own.

these days i don't have a lot but i do like LotR stuff, bikes still (though I'm down to about 2.5 right now) and if a collection of two counts, my guitars. i also own a couple or three drum kits but only one is down here with me; the other stuff is back home in storage.

I collect living, breathing, pooping, money eating, children...I have 4 of them (yes they're mine not somebody else's). And apparently I collect cats too. I have 4 cats (2 stray) that live outside now, and a stray just had a litter of 5 kittens and took off (abandoned them). Now we're bottle feeding them until they're old enough to eat...err I mean find a good home for. :D

J/k about eating them. My wife hates Chinese food. haha ;)

Mad jelly of Sifo's GW collection :/
I got into it a bit late, managed to snag a Factions CE, but not able to find any other CEs :c
Did get the GW2 CE, which is awesome, even though I've lost interest in the game(still play original GW from time to time, though). Kekai Kotaki is the bawss.

As for collections; I collect mice I guess. I've got about 20 pointing devices so far and it's still growing.
Also like to collect special editions of stuff, although I rarely buy a CE of anything I don't want just because it's a CE, that only happens when it's like 50% off or more.

I am a collector, but I often find it hard to justify getting more of stuff simply because I want more of it, so I only end up collecting the stuff that I have a use for and care about. I would like a buttload of knives and zippo lighters for instance, but I have pretty much 0 practical use for them, so I only have a few.

In short; I collect stuff I use enough so that I can actually rotate between the various items in my collection. So far it's really only noticeable with mice and games(only have one proper music CE), but I fear it will expand into audio and photography gear later on.

Edit:
Don't actually have proper pics of all my mice yet, but hopefully going to get around to it when I've got the apartment to myself one day, since I'll want some pics for my mega-review I've been working on as well.

I really like metal....like a lot. I usually go to 10-15 shows a year.

I collect the ticket stubs or any kind of picture of shows I've been to. That's the first page of my binder that holds all the swag.

...And then this is my t-shirt/hoodie/shorts/band merch collection

And the most important shirts, anything to do with 518 and the music scene there (Born Low, The Viking, Skyline of my hometown on an Acacia Strain Shirt, some weird GeekHack shirt :P)

Oh and some SC2 swag:

Hehe...it's been something I've been collecting since I was 16 so I love it. Thanks for the kind words.

I also have like 30+ N64 games and some cool N64 controllers. But it's all the games everyone has like StarFox 64, Goldeye, Super Smash, etc etc. So no pictures.

Oh and GeekHack keycaps.

Should get starcraft 64.

not much of a collector here, but I used to collect MTG cards too, beginning somewhere in 4th Ed and ending right after Urza's Saga. Still have a couple of playable decks around, though they're way too dated to be used in competition nowadays, if the format hasn't changed.

I also collect buy and read manga and comics (on and off, which means my stuff is hardly a complete collection of anything), whenever the fancy strikes me.

One thing I do look out for are old lenses - though I haven't had much luck in that area. Some might get a kick of out this though - if they even recognize the model of the camera. ;D

Used to collect basketball cards. I wasn't good at trading so although I kept some, they're probably worth dirt now.
I guess I collect vintage ergo boards..but don't have any of the expensive/rare ones. lol

I really like metal....like a lot. I usually go to 10-15 shows a year.

I collect the ticket stubs or any kind of picture of shows I've been to. That's the first page of my binder that holds all the swag.

...And then this is my t-shirt/hoodie/shorts/band merch collection

Oh and some SC2 swag:

Okay, so I'm not going to pretend that I have more shirts than you, but I am going to post pictures of mine tomorrow.  :)  Nice collection you've got there!  Oh, and of course mine are not this hardcore stuff you're into.  It's all classic and indie rock.  But I do have quite a few.

The one I am still in the process of recoloring (should really pick up that Dupli-Color):

The one that needs some wiring done before I put the red light back on:

I used to collect hockey cards; it's been a long time since then simply because it costs so much to even try and make money with it.

And in being a fan of hockey player, Jaromir Jagr, I have a collection of cards, merchandise and figures of him.

And now, outside of Jagr, keyboards will be the new collection it seems.

Aside from keyboards

I have a collection of succulents. (plants)

Along with mint plants and a garden.

I also have quite a few skateboards, but most of them have been used so im not sure if they count as far as collectors items go.

I dont mean to but i have a habit of accumulating large amounts of video games i really dont even open at all.

I don't know if it's "collecting" when we buy albums, I mean we buy the albums because we love the bands and want to support them, show them our dedication. Although, I do refer to my albums as "collection" :P I got a healthy amount of them I suppose :P

I did collect lasers but I'm sort of getting out of that hobby, although I don't regret any of the lasers I bought. I had a 30mW 532nm, 120mW 638nm, 1mW 532nm and a 150mW (approx) 405nm.

Now I want to collect keyboards. So far I've got a Microsoft 800 Wireless Keyboard, a waterproof, "soft" keyboard which cost me about $5 from the supermarket and the CM board featured in my signature :P

Watches
Whisky- minatures especially, I've not the space to be keeping loads of large bottles.
19th century Asian furniture
Signed CDs (the only physical media I own is signed)
And various other Yu Gi Oh stuff. :D Just a shame the prices have gone up massively.

Still need to fine time to take photos of everything.

I should probably also add tea and incense to the list.

First edition books by my favorite authors.  The ones I can afford, anyway, first-edition Tolkien novels are worth more than my car.

Table tennis blades and rubbers; not going to post everything, but here's my main setup:

The rules state that one side must be red and the other black, but if you use a "hardbat" (the old-style rubber with pips shown here), it can be any color.  There are very few hardbat users in rated tournaments, like mechanical keyboards to rubber domes.

And I have a small collection of weapons I designed; not going to post everything, but here's my mace:

thanks............. :)

I hope i don't get into fountain pens. I have a limited edition lamy and I'm good with that LOL

lamy`s are great fountain pens- steel nibs but still write fine. the wider nibs are not as scratchy

i have a couple of their art pens

on the average..........the older fountain pens seem to write a bit more "wet" than modern or contemporary fountain pens, which write dryer

Interesting choice of paddle, I'm not as big into table tennis as I was in the past, but I've got a ton of paddles, (donic, butterfly, stiga, tibhar, a few chinese brands as well). But for now, all I collect is this:

[One Keyboard at a time]

@Sifo: I almost got into Zippo tricks a few years ago! Didn't pan out mostly because I have a short attention span, and I was more of a chicken back then.

Collect seems like too strong of a word.. but I have some habits/hobbies that I do like to indulge in moreso than others (aside from expensive computer and recording equipment!). The standouts would be digital indie games and soundtracks, Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab perfumes, and tea / tea-making paraphernalia including my own tea plant.

I collect money...

I would LIKE to collect money ...
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Hah!  The US has twenty-seven different dollar coins, so there!   :p  24 different President dollars, two different Sacajawea dollars, and I'm pretty sure Susan B. Anthony dollars are still in circulation.

Hah!  The US has twenty-seven different dollar coins, so there!   :p  24 different President dollars, two different Sacajawea dollars, and I'm pretty sure Susan B. Anthony dollars are still in circulation.

[And two-dollar bills, for that matter, I like to order them from the bank and use them for random purchases.]

Aren't there like, half dollar coins or something too?

I've got an old $2 Canadian bill saved. My favourite coin so far is the one pound coin, just love the weight and sound of it. Coins that baffle me the most: 1 and 2 cent Euro coins--so tiny!

Yeah, British pounds are quite heavy, when I was in Leeds and had some change in my pocket it felt like having ~10 euro worth of coins there :P

Well, I have kept some British pounds, Swedish crowns and Hungarian florins. It's not collecting of course but hey...

That makes me feel odd that people are collecting what is sitting on my desk.  :/

Why would it make you feel old? GBP is still one of the strongest currencies in the world lol.

I said odd not old lol :D

Show Image

TechKeys business cards: I don't have many, especially not duplicates. I am missing the GOLD one (ironic that I'd be searching for the #GOLD one?)

Show Image

Lapel Pins: I grab these everytime I go travelling, it started when I was young and travelled the east side of Canada. The shirt happens to be one of the ones I wore during said trip.

Guild Wars: Big fan of this game. See for yourself.

Reading these quotes it sounds like a few people need (better) glasses ;) :p
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

ZIPPO lighters old and new.  At times I watch out for a battered one going for cheap on ebay and spend hours restoring it to as close to its former glory as possible.  Love brand new ones too as long as they remain mint.  I don't smoke (quit 5 years ago) but always carry a brushed chrome zippo armor.

That's a refurb of a 1950s lighter.  It was in really bad shape.  Because I thought i was going to use it on a daily basis i re-laquered the red motif.  Problem with zippos is that it is an expensive hobby.  Starts out rather innocently, with one piece, then it starts getting very silly, very quickly.  I had started to develop a taste for folding knives too ... but you need to be on a 6 digit salary for that....

Oh nooo.. how come? I have come to like the combat style of it, especially in WvW. Not sure if you would be interested to know but they'll be releasing an expansion this year.

I have tried playing GW1 and the story is amazing. Also enjoying how I'm forced to be strategic or else I'll be ganked up by the mobs.  ^-^

I've just realized I don't collect anything. I'd love to start collecting though, but I think finding what I want to the most would be great first. Bro caps are too hard to without anything highly tiered

I used to collects lots of aging Vinyl and Tape, mostly 90's hardcore techno/breakcore (alongside old rap records they so gratuitously sampled) and 80's industrial. I have most of what I want these days without destroying the bank so acquisitions are few and far.

Have some new stuff scattered about but as far as tapes go the dubs always sound totally **** so I've given up, I just archive old things from here on out.

Used to collect shmups but slowly been axing off my collection. Not sure if I wanna let go of my arcade cabinet though (sega new astro city) ;_;

Digital music has been my only other decent collection aside from keyboards. Currently have 354GB of mp3s and flacs.

Would love to get more into watches, but I think I'm done spending much money on my hobbies until I have a garage and can buy an 80s BMW. Will probably buy a nice watch for my 30th in a few years, but that's probably the extent of that hobby.

I tried collecting vinyl and have about 25 records, but I have a **** turntable and would rather buy new speakers instead if I ever upgrade my audio.

I buy a glass from every brewery I go to.

(Attachment Link)

You have visited many breweries.
