It's more of a detail thing for me, a find it really hard to see the smaller details on caps when they're translucent.
You and I seemed to have the same taste. I didn't like trans cap for the same reason - not able to see the detail.

For me though, I'd kill for Virulent. It has a solid face and a trans base. That's got to be the best V2 ever*

*well, base on photo. I hope the real thing does not disappoint but I don't see many Virulent photos about. Did this range just get sucked into some reddit world or something :(

Made a ghetto lighting setup to give the iPhone 5 a bit of a leg up, does a lot better job of capturing the Toxic colorway.

Show Image

Wow.. I gotta try this with the iPhone 6! Beautiful photos Bueller. I have hope that my phone can take equally good photos with the proper setup. I don't want to venture into SLR photography. That will surely suck all the money away :)

iPhones are great for taking photos of keycaps if you can get the lighting right. I'll post a photo of the little rig I built today, only uses a 12" LED strip and I'm amazed at the quality of light I can get out of it. And the backdrop is just the plastic cover of an architects sketchbook, the whole thing only cost me like 10 bucks :D
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

I noticed as long as it isn't too close, and if I can manage to hold it steady for a couple seconds, they can look pretty decent.

Yeah all these photos are cropped slightly, the iPhone 5 doesn't focus up close so great.

I learned that fluorescent light is not good for iPhone photography. It creates a somewhat dimmed photo and it has a green hue. I think it is because fluorescent has some sort of flicker. Unfortunately I have fluorescent light at home and in office. And I also found out that if I take the keyboard outdoor, they are just too bright and the keys looked washed out. Probably I have to get LED lights to do what bueller did.

Yeah fluoro's are horrible for photography, because of the flicker it is almost impossible to get good photos without a gelled flash. Check around for the LED strips on eBay or AliExpress, mine was a warm white 300mm one @ 1500mcd and it only cost me $6 from a local electronics store.

Nice, maybe I should get some LED strips. :)  If you have an iPad, try that out with a plain white image.  That's what I use, along with an image that looks like a spotlight (black background with white circular spot in the middle).  For extra lighting from other angles, I use a laptop and monitor screens.  All other lights in the room are turned off.

I have always wondered how you did the spotlight effect under your photos, cheers! I'll have to borrow an iPad from work and give it a go! Found the exact strips I'm using, they're dirt cheap for 5m of the stuff so I might have to order some more and make a few lightboxes.

makes a huge difference.  overhead room lights really 'contaminate' your fill lights during product photography.

Yep all my shots were taken in a dark room or at night with the lights off, really helps as long as your fill lights are bright enough.

Made a ghetto lighting setup to give the iPhone 5 a bit of a leg up, does a lot better job of capturing the Toxic colorway.

Awesome.  Ghetto photo setups ftw. :)  Really great pics, bueller!  Tyrian and Slurple look especially good.

Cheers man! Super ghetto :P

Nice shot!

Do you have a backlighted keyboard in your collection to light it up? :)

I do of course ;D But I doubt it'll be nicer than without the backlight.

Still could be nice to see how it goes with the backlight in a low light environment, don't you think? At least for science ...  :thumb:

Ah, it's kept too away to retrieve HAHAHA. Maybe when I am more free HAHAHA, doesnt help that the board is bare.........

Yeah indeed. What board is it btw?

Koala.

Is it this : https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=35219.0 ?

If so why would you let it bare? Isn't it a better board than your choc mini?

I keep my keysets in display boxes........I use my Filco because of the others who will use my table too, the Koala is too precious to be endangered by proles who do not appreciate the value :))

Yeah I understand that. Would you bring a Topre board to your work considering they are more expensive than a Filco? I don't know if you like Topre I must confess.

Considering the price and the fact that it took me about 2 minutes to make I think everyone should make one! Can't wait to see some pics :)
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.
