[IC] Mini RGBW Board
« on: Sun, 26 February 2017, 01:29:15 »
Have you ever seen a per key RGB ortholinear keyboard? I don't think they're many of them. Have you ever wanted something smaller than a Planck, but ortholinear? Have you seen any RGBW keyboards? This keyboard is a smaller version of the Planck, it has RGBW LEDs, it can support any MX switch. It has underglow and per switch RGBW. It does use Micro-USB as those cables are more common, and they're are magnetic versions of them. Also, the name is not final by any means. :) Here are some PCB renders and some quick Sketchup pictures. Leave feedback and criticism in the comments. Personally I think that on a board of that size that many 1.5u keys is a complete waste. Go full 1u. Other than that, looks good!

The reason I did the 1.5u key is just personal preference, and there's a space for the ATMEGA32U4 to stay nicely.

they're available but they're just very expensive (20 cents a pop) - Google for reverse mount rgb SMD led

rgbW and addressable? I have not been able to find any.

edit: just basic reverse mount RGBs go for 10-12 cents a piece (EASR3212RGBA0)

Hmm, maybe OP can show us the way.  :)

I bet he didn't consider the availability, cost of parts, and cost of pick&place  :P

Pick'n'place itself isn't that expensive. The cost of components, especially for the prototypes, are a lot more.
