Dead Filco diode
« on: Sun, 03 March 2013, 11:01:52 »
The period key on the numpad of my Filco Majestouch keyboard has not been working for a very long time. I finally decided to take the keyboard apart and see if the switch was dead. To my surprise it was the diode for key that was faulty!

Do any of you have any experience changing the diodes in Filco keyboards? It seems like a real hassle to desolder it properly and install a new one. To begin with I don't know the specs for the diodes used, but probably any low-voltage diodes would work, right?

I'm considering just short-circuiting the diode. What should I do guys?

Good news! Apparently the diode was working, but there was no electrical connection between the diode and the switch! I couldn't see any fault on the PCB, but when I soldered the output pin from the switch to the input of the diode it worked!
