Poker 2- Reprogramming the Windows Key
« on: Mon, 04 August 2014, 13:34:12 »
Hey guys,

I recently switched the dip switches on my Poker 2 to get a function key to Caps Lock.  If you have a Poker 2, you know that you lose the ability to use the Windows Key, if you do this.  Is there a way to regain use of the Windows Key using the PN layer?  How would I reprogram it?  I tried setting it up, but I'm guessing it just makes it a Caps key since the Dip Switch settings have it setup as such.

I'm trying to avoid using AHK.

Thanks for all the help.

Not exactly sure where you want to program it, but I was able to move the Windows key to the right alt by programming it before dip switching the Windows key to FN.

Wow, thanks, that worked.

I was originally trying to reprogram it to the normal Windows Key button, but I guess the Dip switch messed that idea up.  I never use the Right Alt key, so this will do.

Thanks again for the suggestion.

Cool. I don't have my Poker 2 anymore, but you might be able to program CAPS to Windows key before the Fn switch.

I had the same question and just tried what you suggested and it worked.
I like having the Caps Lock as my Fn Key and wanted the WIN key to remain a WIN key. If you just do the dip switches it becomes Caps Lock.
But if you use the PN layer then you can program it. Here is the process;

Set Dip Switches all Off.
Press Fn-Ctrl            :enter programming mode
Press Caps Lock       :This is the key you will be programming
Press WIN Key         :This is what we want the previous key to do
Press Pn
Press Fn-Ctrl            :Exit programming mode
Turn On dip switches 1 & 3
Press Fn + Shift        :Lock Pn Mode

You should now have Fn on Caps Lock key and Win on the original Win key location.

This is working rather well and you still have capslock with FN+WIN

This is even better.  Is there any way to turn off the LED under the Spacebar (on the left side).  That would make it perfect.

Thanks

Elmer's Painters marker

#1 Killer of obnoxiously bright LEDs since manufacturers started adding them to monitors, cases, keyboards and EVERYTHING UNDER THE (*&%^ SUN!

You can scratch a little off to let the led emit light in whatever direction you want and as little as you want.

No there is no way I know of to disable the light when in PN mode.
Best option I can think of would be to take the space bar off and cover the LED with something (or desolder it completely).

Also, another option if you don't want to lock the PN mode is to not do the last step (Fn + Shift) but instead use the PN + Win Key whenever you actually want to use the Win Key. This way I believe the Win key will be Caps Lock by default and then Win with the PN key. Pretty sure that should work as well.

This will stop the light from staying on but the Win Key will be hidden under the PN layer.

Also, I think you could use this with an extra programming step to completely remove the Caps key from the board but have to test that.
