It was Left Control.  All the others have the same LED orientation.

This build went better than I expected.  Everything just works.  Now I need to figure out the programming software.  :D

Thanks for putting this together Elton.  You da man.

Hey, so with so many of you receiving and building your Octagons, how are you all handling the right side keys?

i'll replace the tilde with "Home" and PRT Screen | Scroll Lock | Pause with / * - from the numpad, and the 4 subsequent keys will be
~
9
6
3

this ensures i get the correct profiles as well as complete symmetry, at the cost of butchering my numpad

There's a slight profile mismatch but I really don't care. The only one that's obvious is Del.

That yellow brush tip was supposed to be screwed into the syringe of lube :P I guess it can work as an independent brush as well..

Yes, I screwed it into the syringe, that's why I found it so useful.   I guess I didn't make that clear though.

Another noobie question for you folks... I was trying to program my octagon with the firmware from the authors site (ducky0113 I think).  Anyhow, even though it is in Korean I can understand how it basically works, but when I try the option "Upload Firmware" I get the error that I don't have a DFU Programmer.  Am I doing this right?  I tried looking up DFU programmer and found no results on the board, and a few on google that seems to program firmware for chips but I have no idea if this is what I should use.   So it makes me think I am messing with something I shouldn't.  Since this is my first custom, I am trying to figure out how to program it to do what I need such as using a function key to switch the mapping out, or being able to launch a program from a keypress.

How do most of you go about programming your keyboards?  Thanks again everyone.

edit:  I noticed on the firmware site there was a key highlighted called a "Flip" key... what does this mean?

edit: after searching again, I think I found most of the information I needed, no idea why DFU programmer showed no results earlier.  I found a thread with a tutorial.

Okay, I updated my build log / guide on my personal site to include the guides I used and I also link to the software you need.  If there are errors with anything please let me know, and I hope it helps everyone.  I did not write the guides, and they are a bit outdated but I was able to follow them to get going.

Click the Firmware section at the bottom of the menu for the guides and links.

CLICK HERE FOR THE BUILD LOG / GUIDE

If anyone has a more complete or updated guide to programming the 02_Keymapper software in English please let me know where to find it so I can add it to the guides... there is probably one out there somewhere, but I could not find very many.

If you have a .hex file, you can flash your Viper (I have not built my Octagon yet) with dfu-progammer:
> dfu-programmer atmega32u4 erase
> dfu-programmer atmega32u4 flash <HEXFILE>

I just updated my Viper now.

Hey guys, quick question... I have a little trouble sorting through the group buy forums and telling what is available or not,  even with the sticky.  Anyhow...  anyone know if duck is making a new kit or has anything like that upcoming?  I had a lot of fun making the Octagon and probably want to grab another kit when it is available.

So I have all the files I think I need.  I'm in the 02D Keymapper with my custom layout, but it won't let me save to a hex file.  When I click Save on the Save dialog screen I get a Run-time Error 76, then the application crashes to desktop.  I tried running it in XP compatibility mode (I'm on Win 8.1) with no luck.  Any ideas?

I had no problems installing the Atmel driver.  They keyboard works great, in fact I'm typing on it right now.  It's just those few keys that aren't quite where I want them yet...

Make an empty file, name it whatever.hex, and overwrite it with the hex file you create in the app.

Oh, and make it in the same directory as the O2D mapper exe.
That's how I've had to do it for my viper and butterfly numpad.

The replies are all correct... like it said in the guide, put them in the same folder on your root drive if possible... I got the same error you are getting until I realized not to use the "default" name (02_Keymapper_map01.hex) or whatever it gives by default, and just put in "keys" or some small word and it worked.

Any idea what "MFN" and "Ly Tg" do?  I assume the latter is some sort of Layer Toggle but I'm unsure how it works.

Not too sure about MFN... but the other one is Layer Toggle I think.  I haven't really done a lot of mapping yet... the default is working well and I just set one layer for all the LED toggles.  Very nice looking keycap and layout you have there!

From what I can gather, LyTg just toggles between Layers 1 & 2, as indicated by the activity light.  Press & release once to go into Layer 2.  Press again to return to Layer 1.  Pretty simple.

I haven't found a use for MFN yet.

Are there any guides to controlling the numerous LED functions?  My function keys appear to do different things every day and never the thing I expect them to do.

I've seen the demo video but without knowing WTF he's pressing to get those actions it's no use to me.

Also still wondering what MFN does.  It was apparently important enough to include in the default keymap.

Thinking about whether to use switch LEDs or not, can you set them to turn off/dim with a hotkey?

Wish I could help more... like I said all I found in English were the guides I posted on my review.

You can try what I did and using the drop down menu part copy layer 1 to Layer FN1, and then modify layer FN1's top F1-F12 keys to all the LED controls.

Then just play around with them until you figure it out.  I know that MFN has something to do with the "function key" layers.  I haven't tested that key or needed it yet to know.  Possibly means "Main" or "Multi" Function key, "Macro" I dunno... I haven't used it yet.

To use layer FN1, just map one of your keys to "FN1" and while holding it, that toggles the board to the other keymap.

You can put anything you want to test in that layer and mess with it.  That is how I figured out the LED functions on mine.

that's o2d's own blog, i presume.

he briefly mentioned aboout mfn.

Thanks, that is actually helpful... after I translate from Korean.  :D

MFN apparently allows you to select multiple FN layer controls (FN1 thru FN3) with a single key by pressing it the desired number of times.  So press once for FN1 layer keys, press twice for FN2, and so on.  Hence "Multi-Function".

Code: [Select]
MFN: FN1, FN2, multi-function function keys available for all functions of the FN3

Pressing once during the same maintenance and function of the FN1

Click once during the same functions of the FN2 keep pressing twice in less than a second

Press twice during the same functions of the FN3 keep pressing 3 times

Continuous input recognition time is less than one second after pressing the key off of MFN,

Ly Ch will cycle through the 4 user layers.  Ly Tg toggles between User Layer 1 and 2 -- it doesn't work like MFN (with the multi-taps).

I'm still deciphering the LED controls...

Thank you very much!!!  I was looking for this, but was confused by the Korean.  I translated the page and added it to my guide under the firmware section.

Here is a quick link to the translated page: HERE

What do you want to know? I will push the sources the next days after some more testing.
