This was not an oversight fwiw- you don't need to add screws to the top (sandwich)

From what I can see, you're dealing with a standard enough M3 x 10 mm length tapped hole, but the head needs to be a smaller diameter. The above fastener is a small-head hex cap screw, diameter is 4.5 mm. No janky fixes FTW.
