Hopefully I will be getting my keyset off the ground soon as well.

These are my major 2017 goals:

1. Paint the top case frame of my second Topre RealForce RGB board white.

2. Acquire a white Varmilo VA108M with MX Silent Red (aka pink) switches.

Decide which of the two I like better as my daily driver (for work) and put Round 6 Space Cadet keycaps on it.

3. Get G20 Semiotic into production (it is in the prototyping phase over at SP at the moment).

4. Wait for Round 6 phase 2 to go into production.

5. Wait for LightCycle DSA to go back into GB and then into production. (I have a KBP V60 mini in desperate need of this set.)

6. Wait for SA Dasher/Dancer to go into production (currently taking orders over at MassDrop until 12/27/16).

7. Try to pull together a killer Hermes Rocketeer (which may have to be renamed Mercury Rocketeer) group buy bundle for MassDrop.

Put the Keyboardio Model 01 into good use, as my daily driver.

And also introduce my mother to the wonderful world of mechanical keyboards. With a split one, of course, on her request.

boards -
white hhkb type-s
RAMABAE65
Revo HHKB
VE.A
banana split
minivan
whitefox (truefox layout)
TGR-910

if I can grab even a few of these next year that would be fun.

for caps -
GMK SNES, Laser, Adventure Night, little garden - all look like sets I want to grab if they happen.

for artisans -
keep up on nubs, binge, boops, kk, aero, suited, krap, jelly, KF, nightcps and hkp
but maybe dial it back a bit and just enter for 1 each time.

Save money for custom keyboard.

Already decided on parts, layout and keycap choices...

Procrastinate on all my projects.
Buy more keyboard parts that I never use.
Maybe tinker with a keyboard design I have, but never finish it.
Get super-focused on coding over-engineered firmware for a couple of weeks, doing nothing else, and then leave it.

I.e. like this year.

Edit:
Looking forward to receiving and testing out a Wooting One keyboard and Zealencios silencing clips, that I have on order.
Edit 2: Both above received. Using Zealencios. Not that much of a difference in my otherwise loud keyboard.

Two 75% boards are in my future (TX-75 and another). For the TX-75 I'm thinking I'll use 78g zealios as that board will likely end up being my daily. For the second, I'm tossing around the idea of something loud and clicky... gateron blues have been on my list for awhile...

After these two boards I definitely need to take a break for buying sh**; my savings really resents me at this point.

Sell everything I don't use so I can have money to build a TKL custom probably.

Write up details of all the things I've done to my Mini.

Type more.

#1 Finish up existing projects before starting any new ones.

#7 Another run of GH-36, with bugs fixed (GH-36.2017), hopefully with a case this time.
#8 GH-122 "wide-body" 24x5 keyboard, possibly in that Chinese Alps IBM case.
#9 Another run of GH-122, with bugs fixed (GH-122.2017), hopefully with a universal plate and maybe a case this time.
#10 Experiment with running the Soarer converter code on a Teensy++ to see if more memory allows more macros.

Can you add a clicker to a soarer converter?  I got the idea last night and played around with an arduino and speaker, but it's not quite sounding what I want it to sound liek

Beyond my skills, man.  i program with solder.  Or SQL.  Neither are helpful for that project.

I plan on continuing to use my HHKB. I did join the MassDrop for a 60% XMIT so I'll give that a shot, but I imagine I'll stick with the HHKB. I wouldn't mind a good Cherry 60% too. I love my Leopold 660M, but it is a little longer than I'd prefer. I think that's about it.

Unless I see some really exciting stuff I feel like the HHKB will be my endgame for quite a long time. At the very least I'm set on sticking with 60%. They've  got everything I need for work and home use. And gaming.

1: Decide whether to buy a Unicomp Classic (Spanish ISO) or a Filco Majestouch 2 (ANSI).
2: If I choose the Filco, decide if it's worth the money or I should consider a clone such as the Vortex G104, the Rosewill RK-9000 or the CM Storm Quickfire XT
3: Decide a kind of switch for it.
4: Find a set of thick PBT keycaps for this keyboard, which can be ordered from Europe without killing shipping costs.

1. Finish building my VE.A; currently it's waiting for some MOD-H's to ship, but I already have my hotlites, keycaps, stickers, rubber dampeners, stabilizers (shipped), MX locks (shipped) and cable (thinking of replacing).

2. Start working on an HHKB portable endgame. This is going to be more of a longer term thing, but with RAMA working on a case, I'm planning on getting an HHKB, a hasu controller, 55g domes, MX compatible stems. I don't even know what caps I would want on it. I'm a little burnt out on caring for keycap sets.

3. Start designing my own entirely custom keyboard. I have so many grand ideas for how I want my first two custom boards to work but I haven't followed up on them at all in 2016. I think by this time next year I would want to have already designed at least the weight distribution of all the switches.

4. Keep searching for a Model M from my birthdate (1991).

1.) Finally build my LZ-FE
2.) Build my X60
3.) Get extra PCB for my Koala
4.) Track down a MX Enviro!
5.) I'm sure there's more

2- Leopold FC660C white
3- Two PBT spacebars from MassDrop
4- A Green Lime Topre keyset from Leopold.co.kr

Easier to split it into 2 categories, but otherwise there is quite a lot to get through! Tried to put it into chronological order, but it's difficult for most.

Personal:

Noxary:

Oh and I'm also to comment on my previous post -

Really hoping to get a HHKB BT with lubed rails and purple sliders. I'm very excited for my custom (X60) to be in my hands which will be HHKB layout with lubed/stickered linears.

I also want to double my Reaper Classic collection from 8 to 16 (currently up to 11 with trades). Keyset wise, GMK Hyperfuse and perhaps a SA set to see how that feels (mainly Carbon, Jukebox or Danger Zone.

I got a HHKBT, never did the mods. I did X60, just getting through the group buy now. I got to 20+ reaper classics and got bored so sold them all to someone. I got GMK HF, tried SA (and sold within the hour).

So the only thing that remains is modding a HHKB. Hmm...

1. wait for Banana Split 60% PCB
2. build 2 boards (1 for home - clicky switch, 1 for work - tactile/linear switch)
3. grab G20 Semiotic and GMK Black Lotus and, maybe, XDA Milestone (R2)
4. build a hand-wired "one-hand-keyboard" (it's like left-half of 60%) and find a way to make a PCB for it.

that's all for now ;D

let's see, i'm already at end-game with 75% as i have my ergo pro and ve.a already.
i guess;
-GMK Plum/Nautilus.. decisions to be made.
-try to look for a fullsize keyboard with left numpad (another run of LZ RV will be amazing) this will be my fullsize end-game with cherry-stotle switches.
-as for 60%.... HHKB case from RAMA might make me buy HHKB again.

pretty much i'm gonna be so finished for keyboards at 2017. maybe not gonna stop at keycaps, but pretty much for the keyboard.

1. Getting the K-Type, not sure what switches will be on offer since they are very mum about it. My personal preference is linear > tactile and never clicky
2. Getting a pack of the Cherry MX Silent RGB Black (recently announced, part #MX3A-11NA) and hot-swap them in the K-type should it not have linear switch option in the first place
3. Waiting for my Zealencio clips order to be fulfilled, the quest for total silent :)
4. GMK Nautilus, the set is just beautiful and eye-catching, head-turning colour combination with the yellow spacebar
5. GMK Black Lotus, because Purple y'all!  :p

-Aquire Filco Camo with Reds
-See GMK Retro GB revived/not dead
-Acquire Cherry profile keyset (SNES, Terminal, Little Garden, Retro, etc.)  :))
-Acquire FPS *Power Core gaming kit
- See a leftey TK KB come out or a GB with one
- Actually start tearing into things whether a refurb project or kit :S

Well in 2015 I said goodbye to my Model M and switched to a $25 AULA  Mechanical Demon Lord. Been great since then and plenty happy with my knockoff Cherry switches in that....

It rarely, but occasionally started adding an extra key that wasn't pressed. So I took the opportunity to upgrade to a Happy Hacking Lite2 last month....

Which ended up having a bad "L" key and I just returned it. So I bought a QSENN board after remembering they exist, and I guess that's really the start of my 2017 plans, since I didn't expect the HHKB to be faulty.

Anyway, now that I got the HHKB, I'm learning what I've been missing by not having a traditional Caps Lock button where it is. The Command button there on the HHKB was great. But I did not like how after a month of use I can barely find the backspace key on any other keyboard.

I will probably get accustomed to a normal size keyboard again and make use of the QSENN. Time will tell if I get a HHKB Pro with real Topre switches, which is what I'd be ultimately interested in. However, I also learned how much of a pain a tenkeyless can be, and something even farther reduced like the HHKB can be a little too minimal at times. I have to use the F keys a lot, so it gets old having to hold FN all the time.

I have to admit I have a weakness for a good scissor switch board.

Edit: i do have to admit i regret getting rid of the model M but i also did not know people were modding them into modern designs!

Design a keyboard myself, but never have it made because I'm in Germany and would have to start a real legit business with all the paperwork and taxes and no more health insurance benefits for university students for that.

Spend waaay too much money on stuff I already know I l will never sell again, because it is just too cool to not have.

Get a TGR-910CE (I NEED ONE)

Maybe one of ellipse's F's... but some Korean guy made me spend all my money already... so I might not be able to

RAMABAE65... same as above though

Buy my first SA set (if it is in a GB I'll maybe have it by christmas 2017)

A LOT MORE, because I know that there will be stuff that will launch out of the blue and rape my wallet.

The way I understood it I need a business as soon as I start moving money for anything other than private sales (and I doubt that ~50 units of a custom product still fit into that). There is the Kleingewerberegelung, which would make everything very easy for me, but I ran the numbers... If I do one run of 50 units for 350 euros each (including shipping) I'm at exactly the limit of how much money I can move around before having to do the full paperwork, taxes and all that jazz. It is possible but kind of a pita, because I had to do everything in one run, meaning if something goes wrong it goes wrong with a lot of money on the table, but if I do a test run of something else (like a sandwich version of it, so test small quantity production of the PCB) I would limit the main buy a lot.

Either way my "design" isn't even close to done, I'm still finalizing the layout and trying to fix my Autodesk Fusion Account which still isn't activated even though I entered all my stuff around 30 times now.
This is in no means anything concrete yet... in fact this is barely a thought of "what if?". I have barely any experience with CAD programs, I have zero experience with PCB's and I doubt that my Java knowledge helps me a lot on the firmware side either.
If you are still interested after reading this I'll gladly message you  :)

I have some 40 springs in it already, which was enough for alphas, and some other key position needed to test all the rows/columns. And yes, it is _loud_. To anyone else wondering, regular model Fs sound quite reasonable in comparison :)

So many mixed feelings...

I am waiting on Zealios, Aristotles and gold stabilisers to put together my Lightsaver V2 that I picked up in October from the Hoff. Also waiting on GMK Hydro to potentially go on said Lightsaver.

Then I will be consolidating my collection. Selling as many of my stock boards as possible, getting some money so I can put together my OG Dolch 1800 and sort out the build to go inside it's PAC.

Then probably selling more stuff. No new purchases for me in the new year, I'm going to try and focus on Keyboard of the Month, and get a nice trophy for the KOTY winner though, one of those internally laser engraved glass thingys.

I posted (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=83454) not too long ago requesting what folks are planning on picking up in the 2nd half of 2016.

If that fails however I'll start researching what it would take to produce my dream keyboard: an ultra high quality scissor switch in 87 format.

Yeah, I think that's it.  :p

Which keyboard comes the closest to your ideal switch keyboard?  I like the keyboard on my Surface Book.  I just purchased the 101 key Surface keyboard.  Not 87 key.  However it is so then I think I might use it with a trackpad in front or a left handed mouse...

How is the Topre Type Heaven? Worth it instead of a Realforce? They are on Prime too which is a bonus.

Keyboard & Co + Terminal's ergodox kit for my jailhouse (jspacers) green dox.

May I ask a dumb question? Why on earth go to all that trouble to silence clicky switches? Why not just get a board with switches that don't click? Do silenced MX Blues, for example, really feel different from MX Browns? Knowing how esoteric stuff gets here, I'm prepared for you to say "yes"—but it'd be a subtlety not many people would be able to appreciate.

They're great. Yes, the keys are ABS rather than PBT. But while Topre snobs may disagree, the THs I've tried have felt just fine. Topre doesn't seem to have skimped on them in any truly significant way: They're cool-looking (I like the design even more than RFs's), super solid, and very satisfying to use. So no, I wouldn't hesitate to get one, save around a hundred bucks, and enjoy the true Topre experience with perfectly fine ABS keys, and—yes (gasp!)—a different logo.

The tactile click on blue/green does have a different feel than those on clears (and especially Brown) - even without the noise. Aside from that though, they also raise the actuation point slightly which is kind of nice...

I suppose it's also partly how you see "all that trouble" - an hour or so taking apart switches while watching Netflix really isn't all that bad; I mean, it is tedious, but not really all that demanding or anything. I was also changing out springs, so the switches would be apart anyways and hardly take any extra time...

These seem like legitimate points... Now you have me considering it.  :?)

This is all true. Plus, there's the pleasure many of us get from modding of any kind, even to produce the most subtle results. And it's also knowing that what we've ended up with is a rare thing, not something a million other peeps are out there typing on—you have to admit, that factors in as well.

I would essentially like to complete a "Tenkeyless Trio" of keyboards. It would include three keyboards, each one using a different type of switch. A clicky, tactile, and linear keyboard.

I technically have the clicky one finished but it's using MX Blues and they are the most boring clicky switches in the world. It's going to become the donor board for my tactile ergo-clear board.

My primary goal this year is to actually start production on some of my prototypes of things i've been working on. I have piles of failed molds, castings, and clay bits all over the office!  :))

Other than that... goals this year are:
1. I need to build a shelf for storage and display of my boards that allows me easy access to rotate them through duty.
2. Setup a work area out in the shop to do resin casting and more "Making Stuff Together" projects.
3. Buy a Realforce 104U White and convert it to 55g domes with Novatouch sliders for work.
4. Find the blue AeroKeys mods and 55g domes for my HHKB so it can be done.
5. Design and machine a matching aluminum 5 row numpad for the Smart68 (or any other 5 row/60% boards) when it shows up in hopes of having a true end-game setup for home.
6. Get a Booper keycap somehow

More
I posted (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=83454) not too long ago requesting what folks are planning on picking up in the 2nd half of 2016.

Now that 2017 approaches how has this changed?

While I'm going into year 7 of the "Endgame" journey here is what I know:

Topre/clones are off the table.  I find the "thock" annoying and the key travel much too long.  Some have complained that silencing rings reduce the travel too much while I feel they don't reduce it enough.  If Topre releases a thin Realforce 87U with their short throw switches I'll definitely take a look at it however I'm not exactly sure if those are discontinued.

Alps/clones are mostly off the table.  I'll likely pick up a set of evangs LightCycle set and pray to the baby Jesus BlueNalgene releases his SMK compatible tenkeyless.  SMK White's are for sure my #1 personal "Alps" choice.  That said if Hasu offers a SMK option I would take a look at that as well.  However it must be strongly stated that if it weren't for LightCycle I wouldn't give Alps a second thought.

I'm no longer pursuing the Ellipse F77.  I decided that I didn't care for the layout and will stick around to see if Ellipse releases a F SSK.  While I understand there are kits popping up to convert existing SSK's to F SSK's I'm not in love with it enough to get involved with the procedure.

matt3o is currently working on a keyboard using Cherry ML clones made by Kailh.  Depending on the layout and how thick the board is (hopefully ultra thin) I definitely will be looking into this.

MX... To be honest I was ready to pull out of the MX/clone world.  In fact I have zero MX boards currently.  I was dissatisfied with the "reliability", the thickness of the boards, and quite frankly the switches in general.

Then three crucial things happened:
1. Hot-swap became a reality.  So now when a switch dies it takes nothing at all to pull the switch out and replace it.  So for 2017 the first two keyboards I'll likely purchase are the Input Club K-Type and/or Glorious Modular Tenkeyless.
2. evangs released JSpacers to JailHouse Blues mod a board quickly and consistently.  I have yet to try these but given the feedback I think this "is the one."  High actuation/tactility, no click, and with O-Rings should feel like scissor switches - which is my preferred key switch mechanism.
3. Mechsupply/UKKeycaps are running a group buy for Devlin Q-Series profile key caps.  I believe these are the absolute lowest profile key caps you can buy - even lower than DSA while simultaneously being thicker as well.  I have a set on order and really hope they take off.

If all three of these align then I'll probably stock up on more JSpacers and hand Mechsupply a blank check for future Devlin Q-Series sets.

If that fails however I'll start researching what it would take to produce my dream keyboard: an ultra high quality scissor switch in 87 format.

Yeah, I think that's it.  :p

Quite esoteric taste you have here.
Stock blues are always too light for my taste, and the tactility of MX (brown especially) comes half or a full mm late after I started pressing the key.
What do you think of Jailhouse greens vs MX clear?

I've got big plans that should be end game keyboards along with some hope that it does happen in '17 mixed in because I really don't know the time frame for some of the projects, but here is what I have:

1) Solder up a GON TKL with V1 65 gram Zealios and mount in a skeleton case. Currently thinking about using my Retro SA keycap set for this one. I'm also still trying to figure out if I want to powder coat or pvd coat the plates.
2) Same as above but for a Phantom and with Cherry Clears. I'm going with the Danger Zone keycap set.
3) Waiting on the Mira...
4) Waiting on the K-Type...

3.  Get my hands on some XDA keycaps for my 40% layout
4.  Find an Apple IIc keyboard with Amber Alps
5.  Design and order a custom PCB for a 40% keyboard with those new Kailh ML switches (might start working on this right away, but we'll see)

2) Hot swap mod my next Alps PCB (ugh) and get it ready for my Mira prototype so that my Orion v2 can have its PCB and plate back
3) Sell my FMJ case and hopefully get a FJELL case to replace it.
4) Find some kind of TKL as host for my other Alphas PCB (no hot swap modding on this one, thank god)

I also want to squeeze in a Gherkin build towards the end of the year if possible. Or maybe I'll reverse the order of it.... I wonder if linears or tactile feels better on PCB mounted keyboards.

Given there's no actual Topre in a 75% format, I'm not really worried.  I'm more after the 75% part than whether it's a real Topre switch or not.

I really need to replace too LOUD Tai-Hao Alps clones in my Strong Man keyboard. Little problem is I have no tactile non-clicky compatible switches. Only remains of dead Datacomp DFK-101 with blue Alps. Maybe more easy way is: to find what is broken in DFK-101 and use it with Strong Man case and keycaps. Yes, blue Alps are clicky, more loud, then is perfect for my taste. But Tai-Hao clicky leafs metal sound is really annoying. Keyboard looks as a wrong place for cathedral bells.
Maybe board with blue Apls, O-rings or landing pads, lubed switches and stabilisers will be ok.

I finally finished my ErgoDox today. I may get a Topre board at some point. I'm hoping AcidFire will have the Axios done this year. I've got my fingers crossed. Now that my Typematrix has died, I'm going to tear it open and see what makes it tick. Maybe design one that's mechanical.

Given there's no actual Topre in a 75% format
Why'd you say that?

Short-throw Topre boards have a similar form factor, so does for example the MCRW-5000 keyboard.

I know of no 75% or 84-key layout Topre board so if there's news on one, I'm curious.

If I find myself with a bunch more money, I might pick up one of the many optical switch keyboards that are coming out now.

If not, I'm probably going to take it easy this year, keyboard-wise. Well, unless someone comes out with a TrackPoint-ed keyboard that meets my needs in terms of size and rollover. That I'd still jump on.

Buy a couple more Topre boards.

Figure out what to do with all the XTants that I built.

I've been noodling around with the idea of fitting a 65% layout in a 60% case, but have not gone much further than sketching out layouts.

let's see, i'm already at end-game with 75% as i have my ergo pro and ve.a already.
i guess;
-GMK Plum/Nautilus.. decisions to be made. >still haven't made a decision
-try to look for a fullsize keyboard with left numpad (another run of LZ RV will be amazing) this will be my fullsize end-game with cherry-stotle switches. >Still trying
-as for 60%.... HHKB case from RAMA might make me buy HHKB again.EXENT.

pretty much i'm gonna be so finished for keyboards at 2017. maybe not gonna stop at keycaps, but pretty much for the keyboard.

11 days into 2017 and there's so many things that i gotta change from this lol.

Procrastinate on all my projects.
Buy more keyboard parts that I never use.
Maybe tinker with a keyboard design I have, but never finish it.
Get super-focused on coding over-engineered firmware for a couple of weeks, doing nothing else, and then leave it.

That... sounds a lot like my likely list. If you make the nouns more general, you described most of my nonprofessional life.

Actually, though, the last couple years have been about trying to stop that, with a little success. This year, I'm massively paring down the number of weird, random **** I play with to focus on design and metalwork. I bought a milling machine; a lot of it is being delivered tomorrow, the rest on Monday. With a little luck and assuming I manage to avoid doing something stupid, I should be able to cut in the comfort of my own home in a month or so. So hopefully I'll improve faster than I have been, only getting shop-time about once a month. (Although I'll still depend on the shop a lot - no lathe, bandsaw, buffer, grinder, etc., and there are hard limits on size, type and power consumption of equipment one can reasonably house in a second-floor urban apartment.)

So my keyboard goal for the year: make my own, including the PCB and some firmware modifications. I know I can cut the case, and coding is no problem. (Famous last words - I haven't done much embedded, but from what I've seen, this looks reasonable enough.) It will be my first PCB, so that's the portion offering me a serious learning curve and is the most likely candidate for not happening. We'll see.

Since I'm congenitally incapable of working on one thing at once, I have a few smaller things in mind as well, but they're still, if you squint, computer peripherals.

I'm mostly posting this so I can point and laugh at myself in a year.

Figure out what to do with all the XTants that I built.

How many are there in the end? I would just slap one at every computer you use :) Alternatively, hold some kind of contest. Or wait until summer secret santa :)

Back on-topic, kind of, start of 2017 was quite eventful:
- I finished my FSSK, almost - I need to disassemble it, because "C" is not working  >:D
- I assembled a NEXT and X68000 converters
- I converted and assembled the IBM Bigfoot
- I converted a 5140 keyboard with Teensy
- I wired the Alps AKB-3420, and I'm almost done with the converter - I'm out of Pro Micros for time being so I used Arduino Nano with V-USB, and defining matrix.c in TMK is giving me grief

All in all, I made 8 of my keyboards working in last 10 days. Quite a productive period. Shame it won't last :)

Hall effect board arrives this February.

A 75% board.  Possibly a Plum 84 for a first Topre type board of any king.

Possibly a GH-122 for a battleship board.

Hopefully a mech-based Kenisis Freestyle board.  Please launch this year.  Please?

Plums don't use true Topre rubber cups. They are 35g and do not feel like true Topre at all. They use (if not the exact) same rubber sheet that you can buy on eBay, the translucent clear 35g, 45g, or 55g. I highly recommend that if you are going Topre that you go head first into a RealForce, HHKB, Leopold, even a Novatouch if you can find one.

Not really concerned with it not being specifically Topre.  I might eventually look into a Topre RGB but that's the only actual Topre buard I'm interested in right now.  That I specifically want a 75% board puts the Plum 84 higher on my list than any true Topre cup board.

2. Make a MX board with layout similar to HHKB JP (http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/#/gists/cb117b4a20c85fb4e73844670c1591f5).
3. Learn PCB designing (at macro/numpad would be good start)

CNC Clueboard with built-in plate is the only one I can say that I actually really want.  Just built my Red Scarf and Whitefox, so I really don't need anything else.  I'm trying to stay away from Keysets since I don't have enough boards to put the ones that I have on, but not sure I'll be able to resist.  Sell all my sculpted SA sets, and go GMK/JTK.  I like the look of the Sculpted, but I realized I don't like to type on them.

My biggest plan is not to be a squirrel with my face turned at each corner by something else... but not sure if I'm going to be able to stick to that.

2017 is hopefully gonna be a big year for me with mech KBs. I have orders in for GMK Sky Dolch, SA Godspeed, & a XMIT hall effect bamboo 60% so there will plenty of goodies showing up here soon. Then my big plans for 2017 will be getting a proper solder station, de-soldering pump, & whatever else I need to start learning how to make my own boards & repair others once my finances allow. I also want to get into making custom sleeved cables as well which that will help with. So don't be surprised if I have bigger presence on here asking noob builder questions! :))

Some other goals I have for this year is to finally get a Topre board to give them a fair shake & also keep on the mission of trying out more types of MX switches. I recently took aplunge on an FC660M with Cherry blacks to give linears a try & found I really like them. I think blacks spring swapped to slightly heavier spring & with some lube on the sliders would make for a perfect linear switch to me. Hopefully all goes well financially for me so I can realize some of these goal.

Either way I look forward to what this year will bring for all of us as it's already looking to be an awesome year for our hobby. Good luck to all you guys on getting your 2017 goals accomplished! :thumb:

Update on my major 2017 goals:

1. Paint the top case frame of my second Topre RealForce RGB board white. DONE.

2. Acquire a white Varmilo VA108M with MX Silent Red (aka pink) switches.

Decide which of the two I like better as my daily driver (for work) and put Round 6 Space Cadet keycaps on it. DONE. I used a Filco Majestouch-2 HAKUA board to make this determination and have elected to put my Round 6 Space Cadet keycaps on the RealForce RGB board.

3. Get G20 Semiotic into production (it is in the prototyping phase over at SP at the moment). DONE. G20 Semiotic is currently available on PMK.

4. Wait for Round 6 phase 2 to go into production.

5. Wait for LightCycle DSA to go back into GB and then into production. (I have a KBP V60 mini in desperate need of this set.)

6. Wait for SA Dasher/Dancer to go into production.

7. Try to pull together a killer Hermes Rocketeer group buy bundle for MassDrop. I have kit renders now, but am waiting for SP to make all row profiles available for dye-sub SA.

My goals for 2017:

1: Stop managing to get injured, sick, cover people's days, have my main computer's mobo DIE on me...
I mean... Come on, life! January ain't even over yet! Gimme a break!  :'(

2: Fixing my dead computer (I'm borrowing a Windows tablet... a true endeavor of wills for a Hackintosh user).  >:D

3: Finish the hand wiring for the matrix and LEDs in my magnetically detatchable number pad for my Danger Zone 75%+1 keyboard.

4: Learn how to PROGRAM the darn keyboard! Gah! I've not touched the software since I think... Last SUMMER!

5: Tell myself I'll finish my Kerbal Space Program controller (hey, at least I've mostly finished the "DSKY"... Just needs to be mounted and wired up).
The keys are normally backlit green, a very lovely Kerbalish color. ;D
If things are turning bad for Jeb, the keypad will start flashing between red and green like below!
Hmm... Print new legends too. I've replaced my printer since printing those abominations!
My only regret with these switches, is they are linear. I love clicky switches, but I have no equivalent clicky switches... I have 67 more of them, and 127 smaller sized ones... None are clicky.

6: Tell myself I'll start work on my //cB bluetooth build using an Apple //c keyboard featuring Alps Amber switches, the clickiest clicky switch I've ever felt!

7: Ask what I'll be planning for 2018... and how many items on this list get moved to the new list...

Unfortunately my first plan is to get rid of my Ducky One that I just got in November :( the person I share my room with does not appreciate Cherry MX Blues. I have been going back to my Filco Majestouch 2 in Cherry MX Blacks and it's kinda growing on me again after using the Ducky for a while.

I would consider getting custom keycaps for my Filco but since it's in JIS layout it's gonna be a bit hard to find.

Well I've built a few custom builds to really find out what I like. The next keyboard planned is going to be a monochrome build with 78g Krytox 105'd Gat Clears, a Tex black aluminum 60% case, silver Sentraq plate, and white DSA keycaps. Hopefully it's my personal endgame!

I'm getting sick of the missing function keys on the HHKB. So I decided 2017 might be the year I finally buy a Kinesis, guess what, my friend got one from work and he doesn't use it so it's collecting dust. CHEAP KINESIS FOR HAPPY LACKER

My plan is to keep an eye on Topre and see what they come out with. Not looking to replace my current board, just see what direction the company heads in, specifically if they release new non-RGB Realforce models, and if they start releasing RGB variants.

1) Hunt for topre artisans, aggressively.
2) Keep begging for an FC660C/EB (BLACK)
3) Maybe build a Clueboard with Zealios, Alps or some other exotic switch
4) Attend meetups to network and try more switches
5) Ascend

Rebuild by beamspring to prevent ghosting, took me forever to solder the xwhatsit controller correctly. When I found several keys would always misclick, I just disabled them, its pretty likely there is dust inside. I just wanted to use it and not have a perpetual project board.

Rebuild the Model FAT and use it more. If I get around to it, ill handwire an alps board, probably with AEKII switches. maybe ill get matias keycaps.

Sell my cherry mx brown keyboard for ones if not tens of dollars on ebay as the sight and feel of cherry keyboards disturbs deeply. I always get a bump of disgust then a slight scraping feel as I continue down.

My plans for 2017 are:

* Whitefox with purple Zealio switches
* Realforce 87U (black) with Pexon cable mod for the office
* Some Artisan keycaps

This list might not be complete ;)

Whitefox with Zealios... I'm right there with you that sounded perfect to me in so many ways. That was one of my end game (but I'm still going to continue buying keyboard stuff anyway  :D ) keyboards. That along with a Zeal60 based 60%.

Fortunately I have my order placed for that Zeal60! Which leads me to my 2017 keyboard plans.

1) Zeal60 Build AKA "End Game"

2) Zeal60 Build 2? AKA "There's More Than One Game I Want to End."

3) Most critical component - Hide all of this from my girlfriend.

Update on my major 2017 goals:

1. Wait for LightCycle DSA to go back into GB and then into production. (I have a KBP V60 mini in desperate need of this set.)

2. Try out a Plum Nano 75. If I like it, the plan is to paint the case tan and put Industrial SA keycaps on it.

3. Wait for SA Dasher/Dancer to go into production.

4. Wait for Round 6 phase 2 to go into production.

5. Try to pull together a killer Hermes Rocketeer group buy bundle for MassDrop. I have kit renders now, but am waiting for SP to make all row profiles available for dye-sub SA.

Easier to split it into 2 categories, but otherwise there is quite a lot to get through! Tried to put it into chronological order, but it's difficult for most.

Personal:
  • Figure out which MX switch is my favorite using X60s
  • Build 910
  • Build X60
  • More Boopers, Bros, and maybe a couple ETFs/KWKs
  • GMK Deep Space/GMK SNES/GMK Plum
  • Gain enough confidence to take my Type-S apart and lube it
  • Try purple sliders in a HHKB
  • Make my own TKL at one point

Noxary:
  • Launch my store
  • Learn how to make PCBs and be free
  • Release X65/X75/T60/N60 throughout the year
  • Play around with diffusers in designs

I'm glad I've posted here before - allows me to keep track of goals as I'm awfully forgetful.

Personal:
Noxary:
New goals in general are:

Really need to build myself a 40%. Been holding it off for too long. One board a year is the rate I'm looking at... This year, a Diverge TM2 seems imminent. I also want to squeeze in a Gherkin build towards the end of the year if possible. Or maybe I'll reverse the order of it.... I wonder if linears or tactile feels better on PCB mounted keyboards.

**** THIS ****

Probably gonna get a JD40. Really want a HHKB. Not sure about going ortholinear, thinking about an Atreus but can't commit yet.

I wanna find at least one of the keyboards I've sold over the past year or so. I'm realizing now how much I loved some of those boards. My KMAC 1, Cheat with a half plate, even my B87 with blacks was a pretty sweet little thang. Probably gonna offload my Jane and swap my MX1800 PCB into a not terrible, creaky, uneven Cherry case

I really hope to get my hands on a Topre Realforce RGB board.  I've wanted one since they were released, despite the price tag.  I also want one of the Razer Blackwidow V2 boards with the Orange (Cherry MX Brown equivalent) switches.  I know Razer is overpriced, but I've always been fond of their keyboards, and it matches nicely with my other peripherals, since I have one of their mouse mats and a Razer Naga mouse.

I would possibly like a custom board though at some point.  I'm wanting to build a new computer by next year with a strict white and purple theme, and a purple board with white keycaps (or vice versa) sounds like heaven for me.

I'm new to the game and recently bought a AnnePro for Work and a Tada68 for home. I'm going to customize the **** out of both of them. Already working on a custom wood case for the AnnePro (walnut). But I also have some features on my mind that no ready made models offer, so I also want to built something with a similar layout to the TADA68 but with more features from scratch. For example, I want a scrollwheel on the top left next to the tab button, like this KB i had in the late 90s had: (https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41YS1HESFAL.jpg)

That's really something I'm missing, as it was very convenient. I don't really know how that works yet, but I'm sure the community will help me figure it out :)

I'm pretty excited for the F77 to happen, that's the major highlight to my year in keyboarding as it stands right now. Additionally I'm still waiting on all the parts so that I can finish my Preonic, and I've also just begun ordering parts to build a 96-key layout. The 96 is still in the planning stages but I'm pretty excited about it. Part of me also wants to build an Atreus 62 and another Model M, so help my wallet

I went classic. I don't consider it a waste of space. It's a keyboard, not a swimming pool. The difference in size is negligible to me, and I really like the way it looks. The modern compact is cool, but it looks a lot like every other keyboard available right now, it's just a slab. The classic really puts me in mind of my other vintage IBM boards.

Cool! Here's mine...perhaps for 2018, I'm not in a hurry...

1. (waiting for the Massdrop flat-profile 60% case for my modified Pure, and ordered GMX sound dampeners)

2. Track down a 40% board that's compatible with the Dvorak layout

3. Move my DSA caps and switches to the 40% board--the switches on the 60 are
- Ergo Gateron Browns (FANTASTIC switches; extremely light yet great tactility)
- Ergo Cherry Clears for modifiers (didn't order enough Browns :P)
- Stock Cherry Clears for the switches I couldn't mod because of the LEDs on the Pure

4. Put my heavy OEM PBTs on the 60er; give it all heavy Clear springs!

That's most of it for now!

Not really sure if all of this will happen in 2017, but this is my "wish-list" for 2017:

-Aluminum case for KBP V80.
-DSA Lightcycle for KBP V80.
-Ellipse F77 and all its extra goodies.
-RAMA M65-A.
-GMK Nautilus.
-A custom TKL or 60% would be cool, but may wait on that until 2018.
-Filco KOBO KEYBOARD FRAME (one of the faux wood-ish colors) and SA 1965 for my Rosewill. (or maybe a cheap uniform SA set)
-Screw mod my third Model M that's just sitting here broken.
-Build something out of the spare Unicomp barrel/plate assembly I have.

I think that's it for now.

Well, just a few weeks into 2017, and plans have changed already...

1) Have most of the parts ready for my first 60% custom build.

I'm so excited to build this. Just waiting on the R2 Zeal60 PCB, another shipment of 67g Zealios to do a swap with the Gateron black stems, and the screw in stabilizers. Also will likely be putting the Jessica GMK Plum keycaps on this build. Can barely contain my excitement with this build. Can't wait to make it.

2) The acrylic bug bit. I have completely fallen for the Gon TKL Acrylic and 60% boards. I must build one of each this year. Will use the modified 62g Zealios in the Gateron black housing in one of these, and I will use either stock Gateron black or Gateron black with 67g springs swapped in. I don't know what it is about those Gon acrylic cases, but they're absolutely gorgeous to me.

Current todos:

- Finish Building my Mira Prototype. Just waiting on the PCBs

- Get a case made for my Alpetit II, build it and probably use holtite sockets for the pretty factor

- Get the FJELL case for my other Alps Eagle v1 along with a new plate for the board, ditching the old MX universal plate I rigged for Alps.

- Maybe try and get some sculpts of custom made ANSI hi pro mods for Alps done (in order to work with Alps' own hi pro caps that lack full ANSI support, which is all of them).

Hmm, bet that would be easier to 3D print actually. Uuuugh.

I joined the drop for the GMK Plum set, which of course is an excellent excuse to get yet another keyboard  :p

So... I've ordered a Filco TKL with MX reds and a Pexon coiled cable (in 550 Cappuccino no less to match the off white of the keys).

I'm tempted not to use any of the Burgundy keycaps from the plum set, I modified the official renders and it looks rather good:

I'm also tempted to swap out the LEDs for caps lock/scroll lock to either a dull purple or warm white.

1) Figure out how to get my hands on swiss keycaps
2) Fail
3) Lasercut a plate for a reasonable price
4) Fail
5) Buy a finished ANSI-keyboard
6) Be unhappy with the layout and be aroud 200CHF lighter, yay

To try fix my ANSI modded Model F AT's foam mat.

I've just finished one of my end-game mx boards which has 78g Zealiostotles in the alphas and Gat yellows 76g in the modifiers with no case and SA Ice caps. Do want to pick up a nice OEM profile keycap set though.

May I also ask why anyone such as OP would consider a scissor switch board to be end-game? I've typed on Apples flat keyboards and their scissor right? They just feel like laptop switches and are so boring?

Assemble a full-size keyboard(Matrix.);

It's unfortunate that only 20 Matrix full size boards were made.  Full size customs don't get enough love.

GH-122.  More than full size (though not matrix).

I'm tempted but the parts would just sit there assembled for years.

- get a board to try Blue Alps with
- experiment with wide mod layouts (i.e. moving home row position outward from the center by one or two columns) to compensate for no longer using split keyboards like Kinesis Freestyle
- try IBM Model F / M superfloss silencing mod
- more if time permits (ahh, the kids...)

Though I'm not sure if it'll be my "endgame", I'm planning on purchasing an X75 to be my sole keyboard. I'm currently sourcing the switch components and saving up for the moment the GB opens.

Aside from that, I'll continue to grow my artisan collection. There are some specific caps out there that I'd love to have, but are going to be very tough to acquire.

Update on my 2017 goals:

1. Paint the top case frame of my "Space Cadet" Topre RealForce RGB board white. DONE.
2a. Acquire a white Filco Majestouch-2 S with MX Silent Red (aka pink) switches. DONE
2b. Acquire a white Varmilo VA108M with MX Silent Red (aka pink) switches. Keyboard is on the way...
3. Get G20 Semiotic into production. DONE. G20 Semiotic is currently available on PMK.
4. Assemble the "Penhurst Pok3r" with Datamancer walnut case. DONE
5. Wait for Round 6 phase 2 to go into production. This is like waiting for Godot...
6a. Wait for LightCycle DSA to go into production. I have a KBP V60 mini in desperate need of this set.
6b. Replace the KBP V60 mini's case with a black Lambo (aluminum).
7. Wait for SA Dasher/Dancer to go into production. I also plan to run a small group buy for BLANKS myself.
8. Try to pull together a killer Hermes Rocketeer group buy bundle for MassDrop. In progress...
9. Get a Plum Nano 75 (45g), paint it tan, and put Industrial SA keycaps on it. Keyboard is on the way. I'm really hoping I won't have to replace the 45g rubber dome sheet with a 55g version.
10. Get dark blue and dark gray Norbauer aluminum cases for my NovaTouch.

I'm noticing with alarm that this list is growing faster than items are being struck off as DONE.

Looks like my list has shrunk with the receipt of the XMIT board.  Now it's just waiting on Dasher/Dancer and possibly a 75% board.

Adjusted:

1a. Put 70g springs in XMIT board.
1b. Try out DSA and GMK caps on XMIT board.
2. Wait for Dasher/Dancer caps.
3. 75% board.  Probably going to pass on the 35g Plum board and look to something else.

Wanted a GH-122 but it will collect dust unassembled almost certainly so I'll likely end up passing.  Debating the Freestyle 2.

Huh, thought I posted before but I looks like I haven't (or maybe I'm blind)

Keyboards:
1. Receive and build Duck Viper v2. I'm thinking of putting in some zealios with linear stems.
2. Receive and build 2 X60's. One in alps, one in mx. SKCL Greens for the alps and MX Silents for the mx, I'm thinking 68g springs for the silents.
3. Receive and build LZ CLS. Vintage blacks with 68g springs.
4. Receive and build 2 Miras. One with ergo clears, one with vintage blacks.
5. Receive and build DOLPHIN. Vintage mx blacks w/ 65g springs. Maybe nixdorfs depending on my mood.
6. Pick up Revo HHKB

Keycaps:
1. Receive GMK Dolch
2. Pick up GMK Oblivion
3. Pick up GMK Solarized Dark
4. Pick up GMK Yuri
4. Pick up GMK Oblivion
5. Pick up GMK Nautilus
6. Pick up GMK Black Lotus(black lotus when?)
7. Pick up some OG Dyesubs

then at the end of the year, I'll sell everything off and quit my addiction 8)

I figured this was a reasonable thread to post this to. I finally came up with my endgame concept and then delivered. Here it is:

Gateron Black HHKB with FaceW PCB, plate mount stabs and a LaserGist plate. The case is a black walnut Royal Glam and the keycaps are a custom DSA set from Sig Plastics (though it is literally just Granite with RGBYO mods).

I believe I posted about this along with a Golbat earlier in this thread. Either way, adding another keyboard success to 2017!

- Receive and build Massdrop Planck
- Receive Devlin Skidata, put on... something.
- Hopefully get in on Lightsaver GB and pair with GMK Oblivion
- Hopefully get in on SKOG GB
- Attempt to get 2nd hand HHKB at reasonable price, hope Rama HHKB case is available in pink, pair with that.
- Probably sell FC660m due to influx of new boards
- Design a keyset or two, maybe.
- Order some gherkin PCBs, make a custom case, maybe.
- Find time to type more.

Noob energy in full effect.

Here's my list of things:

- Get a board with Cherry blues to compare to my greens
- Try out the Matt3o keycap set from the group buy and either love it or sell it
- Try out DSA profile (Not necessary if I love the profile of the above keycap set)
- Get a board with Cherry blacks specifically for gaming
- Make sure at least one of the above boards has lots of pretty colors to make the wifey happy
- Finish up my Descent keycap set design and start the process of doing a group buy on it

I believe that's a decently full year in keyboards :)

Been working on an HHKB. IT has the KK Oxblood Round 1 mods. The whole ETF Red Viridian Topre set. Purple RF Sliders. Lubed with TechKeys thin/thick mix. I have 55g domes on the way for it.

Having owned or still owning most of the higher cost keyboards I wanted to experience or keep...I lately have actually been on a cheap board kick finding the best bang for buck boards out there, and they have been fairly popular videos for me on Youtube at that as a bonus.  The Video I did on the Magicforce 68 keyboard (before it was well known) by way of example got 17,000 views compared to the HHKB Pro 2 which got half of that.  So it's turned into a hobby to find the best dirt cheap keyboards out there that don't totally suck and the videos seem popular right now at that.

Right now working on the (and typing this on it) the Velocifire TKL-01 W/ Zorro Brown switches ($29.99 MSRP on sale less then that at times)

May look into some of the Drevo boards after this one.

Now that I have a RF 87u 45 on my hands, I think Topre is pretty much endgame for me. But since it's endgame, I'm not going to let this used, domeswapped, atrociously-sabotaged-by-me RF be my endgame. Instead, I'm probably going to have to just search and find other brands that sell Topre keyboards like Leopold and HHKB, despite the layout. The left alt & windows key of this used RF were loose upon receiving, so I opened it up to try to see if the domes were out of place of the PCB, "fixed" it, put it back together. Keys were still loose and the space bar didn't work. Opened it up again, fixed the space bar, and windows & alt key ran smoothly, but the right arrow doesn't work anymore. I wonder where went wrong. Guess I'd just have to accept that I'm untalented in doing anything to the keyboard internally.

It's an ongoing struggle right. I need so much money. Last week I was shooting horses with my DSLR and I thought like "man... I really need that faster lens." Poof... there goes 800 USD. Didn't buy it yet.. it's so easy to buy things these days. You run out of money so quickly.

I need to sell the spare keyboards that I'm not using.
Ordered a new Leopold tenkeyless this year, hopefully my last keyboard purchase for a long while.
Maybe I should try Silent Red switches, although I dislike linears.

Well, the FC750R came and went, already sold it on.
Now I need a FC980M ISO. Hopefully there will be a version with MX Silent Reds when the mass production of those boards starts.

Yeah, the FC980M is already available in MX Silent Reds in ANSI layout, but the ISO version is starting mass production and the small test run sold couple months ago didn't feature the MX Silent Reds.

Are you kidding?  A removable cable is just a liability when you're trying to defend yourself against bears and mountain lions.  You think a flimsy micro USB connector is going to hold long enough to strangle the life out of anything intent on eating you?  You probably couldn't even get one good swing in before your only survival tool goes flying off into a ravine or something. You wouldn't last one night out in the wilderness making rookie mistakes like that.

Dunno what keyboard plans I can make this year since I'm going to be transferring to a different university, but if I didn't have to worry about funds then my plans would probably be:

1: Get a set of Red and White JTK keycaps from originative, along with a set of yellow GMK spacebars and a Blue GMK Doubleshot enter key from Elitekeyboards and throw those on my GH60 for a true OG RX78 Gundam theme.

2: Upgrade my V60 to an aluminum case and swap the blank PBT caps I currently have onto that board.

3: Pick up either a Topre keyboard or build a tactile MX board with an aluminum case and then decide if I hate it enough to swap Gateron linears into it.

Probably going to sell off my ten keyless and 40% and buy a couple more pok3rs. I want multiple boards but am sick of changing layouts and typing slower than I should be.

I want to get mito's Lazer keycaps on an RGB pok3r (don't like RGB but I think this set will rock with it).

Also want to pick up more SA sets.

To start off, I need to sell my B.face X2 and my extra GMK Carbon set. This way I can afford the zeal60 parts coming in ;) There are many SA sets in the pipeline I am totally psyched for and need to save for; Most notably, R2 SA Carbon and SA Oblivion! 1. Get the white HHKB Silent I just ordered in.
2. Find out which I like better, white HHKB (already own) or white HHKB Silent. Keep the one I like, return or sell the other.
3. Harvest 55g domes from my white 55g RF 87U and put in HHKB... in HHKB Silent hopefully.
4. Use 45g domes replaced from HHKB plus 45g domes from my white RF 104U Silent to make a full 45g white RF 87U. Sell it.
5. Buy a black 55g RF 87U when back in stock at EK. Use purple sliders from RF 104U to make it silent. Switch black RF 87U keys with white RF 104U keys.

Hopefully I will end up with a white 55g HHKB Silent and a black RF 87U Silent with white/grey keys.

And lastly, probably do some consolidation of other things I own.

Lets see:
Build my Banana Split 60 with GMK Plum, which I may or may not switch to Miami Dolch when that ships.

Next would be to try and figure out what to build my girlfriend.  Probably an XD60 so she can have arrow keys.  Not sure what caps would go on that though.  Maybe some DSA's from PMK if I can't get my hands on a nice set for her that I'm willing to not have for myself lol.

I need a 75% I've decided. So I'll start planning that out.

Then a 96 would be cool  Lightsaver V3 being ideal but I just blew too much on Miami Dolch so that's not a reality.

Build my first custom board using alps switches. Already harvested, cleaned and click modded all of them (cream).
1. The plan is to handwire, hand build a wood+acrylic case, backlighting, and a split alps60 layout (like the VE.A).
2. Then try to acquire a good keyset.
3. Hunt for more interesting alps
4. Build a Wireless Let's Split (like the Mitosis) using the more interesting alps.
5. Find a keyset for that.

I think 1/2 will take most of the year though and the rest depend on the wallet

I just got a battleship F-122.  My plans are:

1) Order some reproduction flippers and springs from https://www.modelfkeyboards.com/.  At least enough to redo the alpha keys, directional arrows, and space bar.  This keyboard was in constant mainframe use between September of 1984 and May of 2017, and that's long enough to put wear even on a battleship Model F.

2) Take apart the F-122, refoam, replace most worn switches, make it slightly more ANSI friendly (I want my big left shift back at least) and hopefully get the whole thing back together again.

3) Come up with some keyboard layouts to put together using Soarer's Converter.

All I got from the seller is that it was hooked to a 3180 dumb terminal connected to an IBM AS/400 (or iSeries) and that the server was taken offline a week before I purchased the board.  The seller was also contacted by museums interested in buying the entire AS/400, but he only had the terminal and keyboard.*

As a software consultant who sometimes has to work with iSeries / AS/400 clients, I can tell you that it's not uncommon for mid-sized corporations to still use ancient IBM mainframes with 30+ year old legacy code running their back end ERPs.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?  What's much less common, though plausible, is actually running a bonafide dumb terminal connected to one for that long.  I've personally never seen a client not use emulation to access an AS/400 (provided essentially free by IBM,) but they must exist considering that I got one of their keyboards :).

* I actually bought the keyboard with the entire 3180 terminal setup.  It was listed cheaper than any other F-122 on ebay at the time, and I can just relist the parts I don't intend to use to make some of my money back.  Win-win.

3) Come up with some keyboard layouts to put together using Soarer's Converter.

Interesting. Any story behind why its use was discontinued (or why it was used so long in the first place)?

Win-win.

Cool, thanks for the info. I worked at a company that still used AS/400 (at least as of 2011), but it was emulated on Windows XP; I didn't know anyone still used the old hardware either! I never had to deal with AS/400, so I'm not really familiar with it or what exactly it was used for there however. The only issue I remember was somehow one of the shortcuts got overridden so the users couldn't use some functionality (maybe to access one of the F13+ keys?), and it was a big deal.

1) Get a 55g REALFORCE and finally find out if it genuinely will complete my existence
2) Enjoy my recent MX milk white TKL Ducky acquisition - whilst wishing the previous owner hadn't been the Marlboro man.......
3) Patiently wait for my Type K to arrive - whilst constantly wondering if I chose right with my Halo choice
4) Get a REALFORCE RGB and wish it had 55g's (according to outcome of aforementioned findings)
5) Aquire lots more SA sets
6) Put a switch tester together
7) Find the conviction, courage and ability to swap the REALFORCE RGB to 55g domes (subject to points one & four)
8) Pray for someone to rerun SA Retro
9) Try a buckling spring board
10) Strike up a mutually beneficial relationship with UK border control
11) Harness my inner Chi and resist buying any more GMK sets

Lol

Can you recommend an ISO BS board?

Vintage Model Ms come in ISO variants, which aren't too hard to find. I believe all Terminal Model Ms and Fs are ISO too. I don't think Unicomp makes ISO layout though, so you'll probably have to get something vintage. I haven't tried anything BS outside of the standard Model M 101 key (I have two 1989s and gave my brother a 1995). I did try a Unicomp 104 key that was pretty terrible, but it was probably a lemon. Each Model M feels a little different, but the older ones tend to feel better because of thicker materials.

Part No. 1391401 is the "standard" Model M, but I'm not sure if the part no. changes for ISO. Don't pay more than $60 though. IMO, a good buckling spring is hard to beat.

Novatouch is a nice board IMO, not as good as a genuine RF Topre, but a much more
versatile offering. TBH though, its best to forget about MD's after you've paid - then
It's a great surprise when they finally ship !!

I've recently revived my plan to build a 60% ergonomic 'board—something between Atreus, TECK and some of those M-Type keyboards—that would fit in a standard case. Unfortunately, when I got a quote for the custom plate and completed the BoM, it turned out to cost dangerously close to $200. I get that people pay much more for customs, but this one wouldn't even be fancy. I've already made this mistake once…

Won the Aerokeys CMY mod set. That solidified which HHKB I should purchase first.

For a while I planned on getting a Type-S. I love my 55g Realforce but find it a bit loud during long and heavy typing sessions, so I thought a silenced HHKB would be ideal. But then the Bluetooth came out. To me, white is the more default color for HHKB, but ultimately my goal was to get a black HHKB with blank black caps and blue modifiers. Thankfully, someone gifted me a beautiful blue mod set made by Aerokeys, and now I have a CMY set to pair it with.
I guess I can get the blank white caps and toss that on the board when I want to switch things up.

I need to cut down on the number of boards/parts I have  :-X

I think 15 is the limit. I do want to try some different Topre boards, though. I have 87U 45g, 55g, and 2 HHKBs... but I'm really tempted to try the Hi Pro for that raw sound (though I'm worried the keycap edges will be uncomfortable), or maybe the Topre RGB. Even the TypeHeaven would be fun to try (especially if I could find one with the red case).

After realising Topre 45g is note for me, time to get back into the mx game. Probably going to do either JD40 or Planck. Maybe put holtites in it? Because it will probably be the only build I will buy for the rest of the year, or two.

I realised I dislike SA too, so I would like to get DSA, hopefully galaxy class, and a gmk set of some kind :)

I would like to really start getting into keyboards more this year. I just added to the group buy on massdrop for the carbon set and would like to get a nice tkl board to use that set on.

However, if I am able to find the funds, I would really like to make a custom TKL keyboard since it would be fun and I would get everything to my liking.

First though, I need to finish my diy mechanical macro pad project. All I need to do now is assemble it.

Really though, I would like to keep my spending under control as I am still a student and it is probably (Though sad) best to wait till after college when I have a real job to buy nice things such as keyboards.

But I have promised myself a tkl board if I get the internship which I have been pursing, hopefully the people at the work do not find mechanical keyboards annoying.

Going to build half a Let's Split as practice in preparation for building a Banana split.

For the 1/2 Let's Split I'm planning on putting a mix of Kailh speed switches in initially. I may put one of each Zealios in there too since I'm waiting on a sampler pack to arrive.
For the case and plate I'm going to go laser cut wood.
At some point I might desolder and make the switches homogenous, we'll see. And I might make the second half one day.

My plan for the banana split is a carbon plate in a wood case with GMK Laser caps.
Then I will stop spending money on this. Except I would like the same keyboard at home as at work so I will probably get another Banana split when round 2 runs =D

-Filco KOBO KEYBOARD FRAME (one of the faux wood-ish colors) and SA 1965 for my Rosewill. (or maybe a cheap uniform SA set) --Not sure about these anymore, but SA 1965 is due in Sept, I think.
-Screw mod my third Model M that's just sitting here broken. --Done and gifted to my brother.
-Build something out of the spare Unicomp barrel/plate assembly I have. --Not really sure where to get the parts and such for this. It may continue sitting there for a while.

Added:
-Receive and build The Moon Keyboard with Gateron Greens.
-Receive MX Silent Blacks. Use on extra plate and PCB for The Moon.
-Receive MX lock switches. Use on RAMA M65-A and maybe The Moon.

Well I don't really know in which order I'll do these but they are "projects", I guess ...

+ Have a fully sculptured SA in ISO-FR (almost done !)
+ Convert my linearised Cream Dampened AEK2
+ Convert my Orange Alps ASK
+ Restore an old Futaba MA keyboard
+ Find a french Model F (AT if possible since I can't be arsed to convert an XT (plus that stepped Alpha key is bothering me very much if it's not an original French model) :p ) (or a F122 but gl hf to me !)
+ Find a ISO Winkeyless 1800 (to put that sweet SA ISO-FR of mine ;) )
+ Make a TKL out of the generatious donation of switches from ramnes (thanks again !)
+ Find my favourite MX-style switch to be able to use it everywhere
+ Try Zealios, Clears, some weird combos maybe ?
+ Tidy my keyboards as they are a mess right now, there is some on the ground, they are everywhere.
+ Try to find some nice French keysets
+ Acquire more nice keyboards
+ Get into Artisans and Kustoms

keycaps;
-GMK Plum/Nautilus.. decisions to be made. >still haven't made a decisionNautilus. done. plus oblivion. plus royal alpha. all that left is to find a hyperfuse for myself.

keyboards;
-try to look for a fullsize keyboard with left numpad (another run of LZ RV will be amazing) this will be my fullsize end-game with cherry-stotle switches. >Still trying giving up on LZ RV. instead, got my rt80, waiting for anything good to come.. meanwhile, i got my filco phantom project to keep me busy. em7 is still on the way as well.

-as for 60%.... HHKB case from RAMA might make me buy HHKB again.EXENT. Fjell Pro. or anvil60.

Switches;
getting silent red or silent black and tealios, actually building my gatlistotle, utilizing my vintage clears and zeal stems...

other projects;
should start learning solidworks for my lilly..

pretty much i'm gonna be so finished for keyboards at 2017. maybe not gonna stop at keycaps, but pretty much for the keyboard. still on the game.
retiring is just a myth, after all.

-Ellipse F77 and all its extra goodies.  --Hope to receive this this year.
-RAMA M65-A with Zealios. --Should be receiving in the next couple weeks.
-GMK Nautilus. --Decided on GMK Dark Solarized instead.
-A custom TKL or 60% would be cool, but may wait on that until 2018. --Definitely not happening this year.
-Filco KOBO KEYBOARD FRAME (one of the faux wood-ish colors) and SA 1965 for my Rosewill. (or maybe a cheap uniform SA set) --Not sure about these anymore, but SA 1965 is due in Sept, I think. --You have to buy a Filco to get these cases. Not worth spending over $100 on.

--MX lock switch installed on M65-A. It is finicky, and I'm not sure I'd like it even if it weren't.

Added 2:
-Receive GMK Dark Solarized. Not sure that will happen this year.
-Receive SA 1965.
-Receive DSA Miami Dolch

2017 has seemed like the year of waiting.

I might buy a keyboard. Who knows

Forgot about this thread. I guess my goal was met; still lots of room for improvement.

Gave up on the smart68 and sold it... otherwise the rest are complete. Booper hooked me up with a pretty rare Col. Tussock at the keycon to finish this years goals!  :thumb:

Update from august. man, so much things happened.  :blank:
now i am really thankful to OP for making this thread (and for myself for continuing to write this) . you should create for 2018 as well, as 2017 is ending soon  :))

let's see, i'm already at end-game with 75% as i have my ergo pro sold. and ve.a already.
Still got my ve.a. this will be in my possesion for a long time.

keycaps;
Quote
-GMK Plum/Nautilus.. decisions to be made. >still haven't made a decisionNautilus. done. plus oblivion. plus royal alpha. all that left is to find a hyperfuse for myself.
Got RA. Oblivion and Nautilus is still on the way.. hyperfuse still nowhere to be found. no changes here.

Quote
keyboards;
-try to look for a fullsize keyboard with left numpad (another run of LZ RV will be amazing) this will be my fullsize end-game with cherry-stotle switches. >Still trying giving up on LZ RV. instead, got my rt80, waiting for anything good to come.. meanwhile, i got my filco phantom project to keep me busy. em7 is still on the way as well.
heh. didn't continue my filco phantom. rt80 is out for a while for some body repair. em7 still on the way (great GB so far /s  :blank: )

Quote
-as for 60%.... HHKB case from RAMA might make me buy HHKB again.EXENT. Fjell Pro. or anvil60.
hah. as i got my 910 already there's no need for another 60-65%. but i might join SKBXX for the giggles tho. that case is cool.

Quote
Switches;
getting silent red or silent black and tealios, actually building my gatlistotle, utilizing my vintage clears and zeal stems...
no more silent shawarma. tealios already goes into 910 and it feels amazing. gatistotle already completed but i don't have any place to put in on  :)) . vintage and zeal stem also in same condition as gatistole.

Quote
other projects;
should start learning solidworks for my lilly..
haven't started.

pretty much i'm gonna be so finished for keyboards at 2017. maybe not gonna stop at keycaps, but pretty much for the keyboard. still on the game.
retiring is just a myth, after all.
still on the game. retiring is a myth.

I'm retired from keyboards until something catches my eye. My Dell KB-522 is my BFF.

Am I interested in anything for 2018?  Possibly a Realforce 87 R2 45g Silent if that variant ever gets made.

If not, no worries.

I've tried a bunch of Kailh [Speed/Box/Pro] switches and various dampeners over the last few months, and to be honest I'm not particularly eager to try more at this point. I wanted to get some of the Input Club's Halo switches, but then the whole ****show happened and I'm not fond of Kailh Box switches enough to go for the Hako spin-off.

I've also made some progress in documenting and then reducing my pile of older keyboards. It's not as much as I hoped, but at least something. There's a lot of desoldering left, among other things, and I can't bring myself to finish it.

Coming up next… Build some converters and replacement controllers, finally. That can't be hard, right?

Probably going to stop buying keyboard stuff.

After spending thousands on MX Boards and custom keycaps I'm back using the 660c and HHKB2.

All those mx boards and keycaps sit in a cupboard haunting me.

I'm wanting to make a 60% alps board with orange alps
Hoping to get my hands on an alps64 pcb as well as an orange alps apple m0116.
If not i'll prolly make it with some salmon alps from a m0116 that i have.
Other than that i would also probably like to make a board with
one of the box kailh switches as I've yet to try them.

I just finished building my custom, which I posted in the, "What keyboard are you using now?" thread. But I still want to get a Model M, preferably an SSK. I'll be looking to find someone willing to trade one for a Plum 87 (Lubed and with a 55g dome sheet) and cash to keep the cost down. Then I would like to clean it up and bolt mod it if it hasnt been done already.

I really love both so I'm glad I don't have to make that decision but if I did i would pick the HHKB because of its layout. I prefer the typing feel of the 660c though. It's just when I switch between the two I find the 660c has me doing awkward hand positions compared to the hhkb.

That's is great to hear from a person who have used both boards! Thank you.
I have been looking around everywhere to decide between the two, I know what I'm going for though.
Now's its a matter choosing between normal Pro-2 or Type-s.
poor wallet.

1. wait for Banana Split 60% PCB
2. build 2 boards (1 for home - clicky switch, 1 for work - tactile/linear switch)
3. grab G20 Semiotic and GMK Black Lotus and, maybe, XDA Milestone (R2)
4. build a hand-wired "one-hand-keyboard" (it's like left-half of 60%) and find a way to make a PCB for it.

that's all for now ;D

1. I went with JC65 instead of Banana Split (my poor patience)
2. yep, two board.
3. got the G20 Semiotic  ;D , still waiting on GMK Black Lotus  :( , dropped XDA Milestone
4. I guess I can say I gave up on the "left-half of 60%", still I'm finding another way around this.

(probably 2018 plan)
5. build split-layout keyboard.
6. build TKL keyboard

my plan.... basically nothing .. I'm very happy with my Filco TKL (mx-reds) w/ o-rings and vortex PBT double shots ..

thought you would want a left-hand TKL?  :))

My plan is to stop buying keyboards, I am starting to look like a hoarder... but I have never been good at following through with plans.

However, if a keyboard comes out with numpad on the left, nav cluster on the right, that would immediately spell defeat for my plans.

I kinda want one.. but they don't really make one so.. Filco TKL it is... which is fine I do like my Filco just fine..

If I could find a nice ~$130ish or less lefty TKL I'd probably be down just to drive any right handers who ever get near my pc up the wall.

Plans are:
1. Open up my board and do some rather simple mods like foam-lining, stabiliser lubing and repairing the USB port too
2. Make a wrist rest to fit
3. Op-shop, dump shop hunting for keyboards and interesting input devices, have found a few so far.
4. Pick up an HHKB, Type S or pro-2, still deciding...

Then it's lay back and only keep up with fringe Alps stuff.

Well 2017 is ending so I'm not sure I'll be able to do my plans in time. However, just coming back to this forum has re-ignited everything.

I will be looking to sell a Poker II, a painted Coolermaster TK, possibly my Coolermaster QFS, and maybe my full zinc set. All of that to fund some future purchases.

the difference is negligible. I have had both, i did end up hanging onto the S but if I was to do it all over i'd probably just go with the pro-2, 45g stock domes, and some good mods with a hasu bluetooth controller.

Just what I needed to hear, I don't want to make my wallet even more upset by going for the type-s, the sound isn't the main concern anyway.
My plan is to get the black blank and buy white blanks to put on top as well as a coiled cable and even a PBT spacebar, even all of that combined together is still cheaper than the Type-S, crazy right?
If at some stage I feel like spicing things up a little bit, silencing, lubing, dome swap, I could always mod it later!

Thanks for that :))

I totally agree. I have a Pro-2 and borrowed a Silent for about a month. I saw no huge reason to change so I just kept my Pro-2.

1.) Finally build my LZ-FE
2.) Build my X60
3.) Get extra PCB for my Koala
4.) Track down a MX Enviro!

1 out of 4 isn't too bad  :))
Gonna have to transfer those 3 incomplete ones over to: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=89810.0 (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=89810.0)

I did do some things that were not on the list. Like disassemble my other KMAC2 so that I can change the switches, and put proper clipped stabilizers in.
Also, I finally got around to putting Vintage Blacks into one of my Beige MJ2s.
