The price isn't set as I'm still waiting on samples and quotes, but is in line with other premium options like Hayt's Artisan Case v1 which was also near the $100 mark. The Ice Box is bigger and accommodates Topre caps without the annoying rattling but keeps the price the same.

Storage options like the Evil Box are very simple and are mass produced (in comparison with a GB structure). It's smaller, the lid literally falls off when you flip it over and doesn't include travel foam to keep your caps in their slots when the box is vertical or upside down.

Also of note, this box is slightly taller than an Evil Box or even Hayt's box so your tall caps (2-2-Roe, Jelly Key reindeer, etc) will fit inside.

The market have been dry for artisan cases, so happy to see a new IC/GB for one!

Would love personally to see colored acrylic or even a ALU bottom.

I know it's hard to compare a GB price with a vendor like Kprepuplic, but under 20 USD for a "little" smaller and similar design case. If paying a "premium" for a artisan case, I would want it to be a little more distinguish. I would not mind paying 20-30 more for more luxury

There are some artisans that do not have the generic circular stem and might have square stems or even stems that are bigger. How are you planning to accommodate them?

The hole is only for Topre stems since they hang below the skirt of the cap. Square or other non-circular MX stems are not a concern since they don't hang low.

I know this is a new feature that hasn't been included on other boxes (correct me if I'm wrong about that) but it doesn't affect MX or Alps artisans, it simply allows Topre artisans to sit flat in their cell without rattling around like they do in other boxes.

Good luck with this! The community is definitely starved for case options, nice to see some new ones in the works.

If you want a piece of unsolicited advice, take a look at injection molding instead of CNC. Initial cost is higher but you can scale up much more easily. In my experience, people really don’t want to pay $100 bucks for a machined plastic part, and if you can get into the $40-60 range these will sell like gangbusters. Either way, reaching 50 moq shouldn’t be an issue. Hit me up on discord if you want to chat more!

Got the latest prototype in! Based on feedback from the form, I pushed the size up a bit to 70 slots. It feels like a good number and it isn't too massive when traveling.

What I miss most about artisans cases is something to tilt them and properly display the keys when on my desk. There is only one case that does that afaik and it's not the greatest but I would love to see a nice, quality case with that option.

Drawing closer as the pieces of the puzzle fall into place! Finally got a foam guy, so that's figured out. I'm ironing out details for the elastic bands with the manufacturer and then we'll be good to go! (working to get some subtle branding on the bands)

Please don’t change your material to acrylic. Poly is a huge selling point for me.

Also, for the bands, I agree with what has been said previously that a wider band may be better (and look better), but I'd be down to save a little on the overall cost if you don't get the bands customized. That's just me though.

Because I'm running it through my site, there's no MOQ that would cause this to be cancelled, and GH mods are slow to approve GB threads (in my experience), I decided not to make one. I received a production sample for the box and OK'd for the rest to be produced. I got a quote for product boxes, and will be submitting that order this weekend. With the current production schedule, I should have all the parts in hand in the first week of November which should put shipping right on target for mid November.

I'm still waiting on a shipping notification for the boxes and the legs. I will update again on Wednesday, but if they don't ship to me in the next 2 days, I will likely have to push out fulfillment by a week.

There are some boxes that allow for longer keys. I have a few more case design ideas and some allow for longer keys. I know some people would like a box that could even hold a spacebar, so maybe some special boxes are in our future.

This means that I'm going to move the target ship date to the 25th. I'm bummed that we're behind, but it should only take a day to pack and ship all the orders once I have the parts in hand.

I got an email this morning saying there's an issue with the anodizing for the legs. I'm waiting for an update of when this will be fixed. Because the legs and boxes are shipping together, I can't just fulfill some orders while we wait for the legs for the "complete" orders.

This is a major bummer, but I'm pre-prepping/staging all the packaging, foam, etc in the shipping boxes so that as soon as I have the cases in hand, I can get 'em boxed and shipped.

I'll update as soon as I get another email from the manufacturer.

Also, there will likely be VERY limited extras. I will update everywhere when I have a release date for them (after all orders are shipped).

Extras are coming.

There are a very limited number of extras available for this round of Ice Box. I'll be making them available on Tuesday, Dec 17 at noon PST. They will be sold via my site (http://robotcandy.company) and will be FCFS. I'll create the product pages this weekend and post links on Monday so that you know exactly where to go. I ran this GB with tight margins so extras will be priced at $99. B stock extras will be $89.

More people have asked about extras than I have units to distribute, so qty will be limited to 1 per person. They will likely sell out very quickly, so don't be too sad if you can't get one.

Let's do it all over again.
Because of the high demand and the number of people that have contacted me expressing sadness for missing the original GB, I'm going to run another round of the Ice Box. I'll be starting round 2 on Wednesday, Dec 18 and running it through Jan 18 on my site. Just like the extras, pricing will be $99 for kits including the legs. I'll be creating a proper GB thread on Geekhack this time to track progress and provide updates. What are some examples of the B stocks? Is it scratched lids, chipped cases or?

received my Ice Box today and its very nice - packaging and quality.
My only feedfoward is to have rubber feet that is slightly thicker. My Ice Box is slightly wrapped in the bottom center, so on flat surface, the rubber hardly make surface contact.
Pro-tip: leaving the foam insert outside in direct sunlight help reduce the odor. I left mine out for about 2hr in ~74 degrees.

Some thoughts now that they're in:

Sort of wish I'd bought the legs. Will any extras of those be available separate from buying whole new boxes?
I had a very hard time getting the lids in at first. In case anyone else has the same issue: flipping them over did the trick. Doh.
Some of the width tolerances are just slightly too tight for wider caps -- some of my colonels and dollies either won't slide in or required a decent bit of jiggling. An extra millimeter seems like it would do it.

Hey everyone! I've gone over every extra unit I have and tomorrow's sale will only contain B-stock. I am disappointed by the large number of units that have issues, but I'd like people to be prepared for what they're buying. None of the issues affect the inside of the box (cap cells or lid fit) and are 100% cosmetic. If you want a box immediately and can live with issues on the bottom, this is your best bet. I have taken example photos of each issue. Some boxes have multiple issues. If you can't live with the cosmetic issues you should just join R2 on Wednesday.

I am working with the manufacturer to replace faulty units, but currently have nothing on hand. If there are issues, I'll deal with them on a case-by-case (no pun intended) basis.

I am making sure that R2 includes more extras to cover any loss/shipping damage and that QC on the factory end is held to a much higher standard.

Any chance of having a single, wider elastic band instead of 2 slim bands? Aesthetically it would look better imo.

Also, any chance of increasing the tenting angle of using the legs? Since this box is kinda big, the current leg height / tenting angle seems rather flat.

I don't think I'll re-do the bands or legs for R2. I'd like to keep everything the same to minimize any potential issues and keep the GB on track. I'm working on other projects and I'll keep your suggestions in mind moving forward.

Ah fair enough. I would worry a little about having acrylic stand against a polycarbonate though. Wouldn’t that scratch it easily?

I got my box today and it delivers pretty well on what I’d hoped for. A couple bits of feedback to consider for R2:

For me, the lid tolerances are a bit _too_ tight. It’s hard to remove and tricky to put back on (even when following the included instructions), but maybe that’s a plus for some people who won’t open the box as much as me.

I also wish that the box ended up being a pure white rather than a shade of grey. Day-to-day it doesn’t matter much, but I find myself troubled by it when I take pictures of my caps in the box.

I just got mine. I agree, the lid is WAY too tight. It only goes on in one specific orientation and even then I have to borderline hammer it in.

Yup, peel it off. It’s just there to protect the acrylic from scratches during shipping.

Hmm... I just saw a clip of Taeha Types opening the Ice Box, and his lid was transparent, while mine is an opaque white. The whole time I thought it was supposed to be opaque white until I saw the Taeha clip. I'm also seeing that the product photos (for the B stock) on the Robot Candy site are showing a transparent lid, as well.

What lids did everyone else get? I also sent you a PM, RobotCandyCompany.

Edit: Nevermind. RCC told me there's a film on the lid that I forgot to take off. Maybe it was mentioned here in this thread but I was too lazy to read. Sorry!
