So are the conciliatory side windows that came with the grey colour orders of the Orion variety?

Yes they fit the Orion, obviously.

Lol iunno, for some reason I thought they were leftovers from lightsaver/butterfly
Anyway, is double-sided tape seriously the only described method of attaching these things lol? Should I be the guinea pig and super glue them on? :S

Somewhere I saw a post from Duck where he taped them.  I really think that's the way to go.

Apologies for the mess, couldn't resist posting after getting it done!  GON's 62g stickered+lubed blues and DSA Dolch. This is my first DSA set, still growing on me, I think.

What's with the flashing ESC led, btw?

For programming, really helpful to have the full portrait screens. Although nothing helps as much as a mech keyboard :)

I have mine all put together and it's freaking awesome... pictures to come: warning, the initial keyset is a little take on quas wex exort for you DotA folks =) although I am trying to locate a Dolch or other thick keycap set. To the classifieds I go!

I think I'm going to upload a new key map but the LED brightness has not been working for me.... maybe it will be fine with a new keymap.

You have a custom keymap to add on, or do you mean your own configuration? Sounds promising either way :P

Yeah 0 idea about that too.

The ESC key blinks a certain number of times every two seconds. The number of blinks corresponds to the layer you are in. E.g., three blinks = you're in layer 3. If you enter control mode you can turn this feature ("layer status") to blink only when you change layers.

I plan on putting together a little brain dump of everything I've learned getting this thing up and running as I want it, probably in the DIY section tonight.

Crappy Tapatalk formatting, sorry =( Potato cam pictures here:

You can see the lightsaver thread for some of that information, including a flashing LED--locations are different for the Lightsaver, but the gist is the same:

Yeah, in case anyone doesn't know, it goes behind the PCB and spreads out the back-facing LED light around as an edge glow.

The plate at MOQ 5 is $7.30, plus organizer ship, plus taxes/fees, plus shipping.
The inserts at MOQ 10 are $3.99 ($8 for a set of two) plus all shipping/fees.

rough estimate is 1 kit to be about $20 plus shipping to you.

Will the inserts fit the Lightsaver 1 or 2?

I see my question was answered above by Elton. Oh well, wishful thinking looses! :(

Plenty of responses.  We can move forward, no doubt.  Only question is now that elton got us all the drawings, should it be expanded to include inserts for the other boards too?

this keyboard has killer LEDs. do all keyboards employ the same LED (for lack of a better word) technology? if so, why do these have the best looking LEDs i've come across.. good photographer? (i'm referring to the photos in OP's link)

i'm a bit lost - side LEDs are those under the keys and not literally on the sides of the case?

They are attached to the pcb and stick out on the sides of the case. The keyboard in OP's picture also has an acrylic plate in the middle that spreads the light around the entire keyboard.

oh right, of course. i was referring to the pictures from the link the OP provided - here is one of them:

the intensity (for lack of better word) of the color and lighting is superior to most backlit keyboards i've seen, so i'm merely curious as to whether it uses a different type of LED/bulb or the same type but just with different colors. kinda like how monitors can employ IPS or TN panels. sorry for the confusion

Oh. I noticed that myself and I suppose he must be using some super bright LEDs or else just taking pictures in a way that accentuates the light.

thanks for the help. guess we won't find out unless someone in the know chimes in, but in the meantime i'll go back to admiring this magnificent board

speaking of which, do you know how often keyboard groupbuys reappear, if ever? first-time groupbuys for keyboards seem to be rare enough already, but i'll be majorly bummed if i have absolutely no shot of ever getting one of these

I'm sure elton, the groupbuy runner, can answer this question. There will probably be other boards in the future, even if this one doesn't reappear.

Hm?  It's really not very difficult :(  See the summary in the OP here:
http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=53942.0

Same deal as usual: create a hex file using the layout mapping software, hold the "flip" key as indicated and plug in the USB cable, run flip.

Question to those ordered extra PCB + Plate set (I am one of them):
Any idea to get a case for Duck Orion TKL?
An acrylic case for steel plate + PCB?

Alright, so I found a place nearby that has a wide range of quality acrylic Bouwplastics.nl and I will ask them to make me one of the plates and a set of side-inserts.

Other than the side window dimensions, the DXF-files and the plate drawings, what other info should I send them?

I believe the bottom plate was 2mm and the side windows 12mm? Will they be able to lasercut it based on just that?

Updated with bottom plate. ;)

My original question still stands though. How thick is the bottom plate?
And it seems like it doesn't offer any dimensions so it is practically useless.

Looks like 2mm based on Google Translation for that link. I'll try to help you out and reach out to some plastic machine cutters to see if there's anything else needed outside of the DXF files and thickness

Watching your progress intently. GL  :thumb: Going to have to do the same myself at some point. Do you know how the acrylic plate works? Does it just sit between the two case pieces?

Duck never really posted a picture the case inside with a plate... but based on the DXF file, looks like it's a solid layer of acrylic with holes presumably for the screws to just pass through between the top/bottom of the keyboard case. So the PCB likely sits above the acrylic, not sure what kind of clearance there will be

When I held it together there seemed to be plenty of clearance. I even recall there was a picture where he just left off the bottom part and used the acrylic plate with some new feet for a flatter profile.

Question, are there any markers for the polarity of the LEDs? Margon is building mine now and he thinks he needs to load the firmware first to figure it out. If I can I would like to try to save him some time.

I haven't installed LEDs on mine yet (next up), but I'm assuming it's the same as the Lightsaver:

PLEASE NOTE when installing LEDs, polarity is not indicated on the PCB, but it's the standard + on the right, - on the left, when looking at the PCB from the top (not from the bottom).  BUT, if you're doing a 1.5x modifier layout on the bottom row, note that the LEDs for the right-side Alt/GUI/Ctrl should be reversed in orientation to - / +.

Hope that helps
